Chapter 70: Chapter 70 The Vast Difference Between Them

Jerry snatched the agreement from her as soon as she finished and ran his eyes through it before nodding at the maid.

Only then did she put away the match and moved the box closer to Kelsie’s feet.

"Do you see? It took you nothing to sign the document and it took me nothing to give you the box."

"If you continue transacting with me like this, we won’t have any issues. You’re free to leave now."

Deborah hurriedly tugged him by the arm and whispered, "She should apologize to Laura before she goes."

"My poor girl locked herself in her room and has been bawling her eyes out ever since she came back last night."

However, Kelsie already lifted the box and left the house, paying no heed to them anymore.

Jerry didn’t care much either and just shrugged off his wife.

"Tell Laura her father has finally gotten the shares from Kelsie. She’s off the board too and it’s only a matter of time before I kick out of the Sutton family."

"Hurry up and tell her. I know she’ll be very happy to know Kelsie will no longer be a member of our family."

Then without giving her a chance to say anything, he got up to to call his lawyer.

Deborah bit down on her lower lip as she got up as well and climbed the stairs leading to Laura’s room.

"Get me the spare key." She paused and ordered a passing maid when she got to Laura’s door.

The maid nodded and left immediately. A minute later, she was back with the key.

Deborah slid it in, but couldn’t turn it. Sighing, she began knocking on the door.

"Laura, you won’t believe what I am about to tell you. Your father finally got the shares from Kelsie."

"He’s currently thinking of ways to kick her out of our Sutton family with the family lawyer."

There was silence from Laura’s room for a moment before she heard the key inside the door turning.

Laura opened the door ajar to reveal her disheveled sight.

She had been crying the entire night. Hence, her eyes were red and the eye bags under them were dark and heavy.

Despite this, her mood instantly improved when she heard Deborah. But it fell again almost immediately.

"She was here? Why didn’t I get an apology from her, then? Do you know what people are saying about me on the internet?"

"I’m now a disgrace to those who admired me in the past. Many have cut all ties with me just just because of what she put me through."

"Mom, Kelsie is a hacking prodigy. She reverse engineered a program in one hour after acting like she was noob."

As she spoke, her voice cracked and she suddenly burst into tears again.

Deborah’s heart ached badly seeing her like this and she stepped closer to her daughter, taking her into her arms.

After calming her by consistently stroking her hair and muttering consoling words to her, she led her to the bed and cupped her cheeks in her palms.

"Listen to me, I don’t know what Kelsie did or how she did it, but I’m sure she did something."

"It’s no news that she didn’t take any of those lessons seriously before she went abroad. And it can’t be her mother since she died a long time ago."

"She must’ve done something to help herself during the contest. Instead of cowering in defeat here in your room, go out there and show everyone she cheated."

"Crying only makes you inferior to her. Didn’t you study a lot of things growing up? Show her that no matter what skill she picked up abroad, she could never compete with you."

"Just this morning, I heard there was a malpractice in a famous Silicon Valley hospital."

"Kelsie spent her time with that dirty psychologist back then, but you spent your time with a well skilled neurosurgeon."

"I heard she’ll be in Silicon Valley today. She’ll be visiting some hospitals for a few surgeries and to pick a handful of students just like she did in the past."

"So why don’t you use the opportunity to meet her and secure yourself a well paying and prestigious position at a big hospital?"

Hearing the suggestion, Laura began considering it.

Indeed, her father had secured a way for her to be around a famous and well skilled neurosurgeon after the psychologist rejected her as his student.

Because of all she learned from the neurosurgeon, it was very easy for her to handle the stress of med school and internship while still competing in various hackathons.

She finished her internship two years ago and decided to take a break before going for residency.

Now that Kelsie had caused a dent in her reputation as a hacker, she would do as her mother suggested and show her the vast difference between them.

So what if she cheated and made a program worthy of being copyrighted?

Once she asks around and gets to the real owner of the program, the netizens would finally see how wrong they are about her.

Coming to that conclusion, she wiped the tears off her face and smiled at Deborah.

"You’re right, mother. That motherless wench can never compare to me who has both parents who love me."

"I’ll reach out to Prof. Jade Callahan. I’ve not seen her ever since she became a professor. I’ll use the opportunity to congratulate her and bond with her a bit before bringing up the hospital."

Deborah nodded in approval and retracted her hand from her face.

"Your father may have gotten extra shares, but he still doesn’t have the support of the other shareholders. It’d be good for them to see that he has a capable daughter like you."

"Don’t you worry, mother. I’ll do my best!" Laura confidently assured her.

As this was going on, Kelsie got to the apartment to find all three of her children asleep.

Their nanny came to greet her as soon as she came in.

"The kids had lunch before falling asleep. I didn’t know what you’d like to eat, so I couldn’t prepare it beforehand."

"It’s fine. I’m not hungry." Kelsie gently shook her head and strutted to her room. freew\e bnovel.com

She dropped the box containing her mother’s things on her study desk and sat down. Then reached inside it to take out the portrait she had seen earlier.

She stared at it for several seconds before running her fingers through the familiar face of her mother.

She didn’t realize it until now, but she was the exact replica of her mother. From her smile, nose, down to everything.

Just as she was about to go down memory lane, her phone on the table began buzzing from an incoming call.

She picked it up and answered without looking at the caller.

"Kelsie Sutton, you selfish prick! I sent you several emails telling you I would be coming to Silicon Valley today, but you didn’t read them, did you? Otherwise, why wouldn’t you come to at least welcome me at the airport?"

A woman’s shrill voice blared out from the speakers as soon as the call connected.

The corners of Kelsie’s lips spasmed guiltily knowing she had been caught.

"Even if I did do that, I assure you it kept escaping my mind. And that is a vulgar thing to call me. Aren’t you too old to still have such a foul mouth, Prof. Callahan?"
