Chapter 242: Chapter 242 What Ms. Sutton Mailed To Me Last Night
"I told you not to do anything. I made it perfectly clear not to touch Kelsie Sutton!"
In a hidden location, Serbian Howard stormed toward a man, his grip tightening on the iron rod he held.
Just as he reached him and raised it to strike, someone stepped out from a corner and slammed a foot into his abdomen.
The blow was so powerful and painful that he dropped the rod and collapsed to his knees, coughing up a mouthful of blood.
In front of him, the man turned his head slightly, revealing only his side profile.
"Our deal no longer stands. You couldn’t get her away when I needed you to, so I’ll take care of this myself."
Serbian gritted his teeth indignantly.
"I still have two weeks to get her out of your sight. That was the deal."
"Face it, Howard. You had all this time and did nothing. What could you possibly accomplish in two weeks?" The man sneered, crossing his leg on the other.
Serbian lowered his eyes to the floor and suddenly began laughing in self-mockery.
"I should’ve known you were up to something when you sent that redhead to spy on her. Stupid me, I thought you were just being impatient. Never did I think you’d lift the fingerprints she left on him."
"Go home, Howard. Our deal just ended, and you’re no longer welcome here." The man waved his hand at him dismissively and reached for the television remote in front of him.
Serbian raised his eyes, a wicked grin stretching across his left cheek as he picked up the rod again.
The man who had taken him down expected another attack aimed at his boss. But to his surprise, Serbian twirled the rod and, in a flash, whipped it to the side.
It was so swift and unexpected the man had no time to react. He was sent flying several meters away, his head gnarly split open.
Then Serbian promptly got to his feet and hurried over to the other man, pressing the rod against his throat before he could call for more security.
"Get Kelsie out of prison. I already have Jett Adler’s fingerprints. Once he’s locked up for murder, I’ll use the opportunity to get her away from you."
Despite the rod pressed hard against his windpipe, the man wasn’t fazed and outrightly refused.
"The plan might’ve been okay yesterday, but circumstances have changed. I can’t risk Kelsie being out of prison even for a few days."
"I’m going to hit her with several charges. The evidence will be so convincing Jane Peterson won’t be able to get her out."
"You know the best part? I’ll keep her arrest and interrogation away from the public eye until the judge rules for her to serve life imprisonment."
"So I suggest you find another woman to clamor over, because this one is just about to become a thing of the..."
The words were still in his mouth when Serbian tossed down the rod and raised his hand, landing a slap across his face.
Then clenched his fist and delivered several blows until the people outside heard bones breaking and rushed in to drag him off.
The man whose face was now bloodied touched his stubbled jaw, feeling the crimson liquid it was quickly absorbing, then snorted.
"A generation apart and didn’t even grow up together, yet both mother and daughter seem to have the same character. They even attract the same violent, short-tempered men."
Ignoring Serbian’s struggle against the bodyguards, he took out his phone and dialed a number.
"Where are you?"
"You must’ve lost your damn mind!" Craig Adler was trying his best not cuddle his anger.
Taking the towel being handed to him, the man pressed out the blood in his stubbles with a straight face.
"Are you at an important meeting with Jett Adler?" He questioned further, ignoring Craig’s heavy breathing.
"I have no time for this. The meeting going on is so important I can’t risk not being..." Craig was getting ready to hang up when the man’s next words reached his ear.
"Kelsie Sutton is in prison... for murder."
"What!" Craig didn’t even realize when he stood up.
Fortunately, the glass behind him was noise-canceling, so no one heard him.
Moving the phone to his lips, he barked into the speaker, "Did you learn nothing from the first time you kidnapped Kelsie Sutton and her kid?"
"I know you were scared he’d find you when you let them go, but I assure you you won’t have the opportunity to let them go if you try another stunt this time."
"In ten minutes, tell your nephew Kelsie Sutton has been arrested for the murder of Charlotte Hastings." Just like he had been doing, the man paid him no heed and simply ordered before he hung up.
Craig Adler was in a dilemma. He hadn’t seen eye-to-eye with Jett ever since the incident with Kelsie.
So he spent the past few weeks remaining silent in meetings, hoping Jett wouldn’t notice him.
But on the bright side, Jett’s lover had been arrested. It didn’t matter whether she did it; once the board caught wind of it, it would be even harder for Jett to hold onto his position as the head of Adler Group.
If he was the one to deliver the news and offered to take control of the company until Jett sorted everything out, they’d surely see him in a new light.
With that in mind, he turned around to walk into the conference room but paused when he saw Eric approaching with a woman he didn’t recognize.
However, judging by her corporate attire and her black briefcase, he immediately guessed her role and hurried to open the door, then blocked the doorway.
The door opening attracted attention from inside, prompting the meeting to halt as eyes turned toward the commotion.
"No! I will not let you in! Whatever Kelsie Sutton has gotten herself into, she should get herself out of it."
"Adler Group, I mean my nephew, who’s the current head of Adler Group and who everyone knows is courting her, will not get involved in whatever this is!"
Eric frowned.
Craig was still a direct member of the Adler family, so he couldn’t exactly shove him aside.
From the corner of his eye, Craig noticed those inside glance at one another in confusion, clearly trying to piece everything together.
Up until now, only Daniel, Jett, and Jack knew about the triplets. So Craig still believed Kelsie’s children were the product of an affair and boldly continued shouting at Eric and Jane.
"Hmph! Go back to her and get her whatever deal murderers usually get..."
A foot shoved him from behind at that moment, sending him stumbling forward several steps.
Eric and Jane, expecting it, naturally stepped aside as he staggered past them.
"You dare touch me when you’re nothing but a..." Blinded by rage, Craig at first didn’t realize he’d been shoved from behind, not by the man in front of him.
So when he turned around and met Jett’s furrowed brows, his face taut with anger, he immediately clamped his mouth shut.
Jett had both hands buried in his pockets as he strolled out the door.
"Eric, call the police. Have Craig Adler arrested."
"Wh-why? Why would you do that?" Craig’s face instant flushed with panic.
Though to those in the room, it looked like he was burning with rage.
Jett threw a cold glare his way, "You’ve been stealing from Adler Group for a while now. That’s why."
"What nonsense! I’ve worked here all my life and never for one day taken..." Craig hissed, rushing to defend himself when Jett nodded in agreement and interrupted him.
"You can go over it later with the legal department when they visit you during the court hearing."
Hearing the legal department would be involved, Craig swallowed hard and begrudgingly lowered his head in silence.
Just like that, Jett made it impossible for anyone in the room to protest.
Craig had stolen money from them under their very noses. If they let him take over from Jett, who knew how much more he’d take?
That was all they needed to come to the same conclusion.
"The moment the company starts suffering because of your personal affairs, it’ll no longer be in the hands of your Adler family."
As they left, Craig tried to slip out with them, but Eric stood in front of him, blocking his way.
Seeing Craig was contained, Jett turned to Jane.
Though he had never met her before, Kelsie had booked her first appointment with Jane at the restaurant a few months ago after he and Serbian Howard both offered her their family lawyers.
Back then, it was to sue that Baker delinquent.
"Ms. Peterson, I presume you didn’t come all the way here for nothing."
Jane was still reeling from how easily she had met the most powerful man in Silicone Valley.
When she snapped out of it, she walked toward Jett and dropped the briefcase she had been carrying all day.
"Last night, Ms. Sutton mailed this to me. It was already open when I got it, and attached to this button right here were two words, ’push’ and ’Adler’."
"I couldn’t ask her at the station, so I went to her practice to ask if she had any relationship with anyone called Adler and I was directed here. It seems she wants us to be together when I push this button."
Jett tilted his head at the sight of the empty box containing just a button.
It was the same box Lois Fletcher had stored in Silicone Valley’s bank along with the Baker family’s company documents.
The second she pushed it, the butler speeding toward the airport in the backseat of a car leaned forward, spotting a red dot that had just appeared on his laptop screen.
Realizing the device it was coming from, his eyes bulged in disbelief and he stammered to the quiet man beside him.
"M-Master, it’s Ms. Fletcher. This time—it’s coming from... Adler Group."
