Chapter 238: Chapter 238 Our Unromantic Boss

As Laura fell to the ground screaming in pain, Molly quickly bent over to examine her just as the police pushed through to the front.

Seeing the broken bottle shard on the ground, one of them hurried to pick it, then they stood around waiting for Molly to finish before arresting Laura.

Meanwhile, the crowd eyed Jett’s back in confusion.

"What is this? I didn’t know the Sutton family had a son."

"They don’t. He suddenly came out nowhere and reacted seeing Laura. There’s no doubt about it— he must be pursuing the girl who was held hostage!"

With dozens of cameras in her face, Laura inhaled shakily. She was no fool and knew the implications of her actions today wouod impact the Sutton family terribly.

Realizing they no longer had anything the Adler family could possibly take from them, she threw all caution to the wind and hollered angrily, "You fools! It’s right in front of your eyes yet you don’t even know he’s the person you’ve been—mmh."

Molly casually clamped her palm over Laura’s mouth, muffling the rest of her sentence.

A stretcher was brought forward at that moment, and neither Kelsie nor Molly stopped Laura from being taken by the medics.

While Molly was holding a grudge, Kelsie simply didn’t want to treat Laura.

Besides, with everything going on, Jerry Sutton would surely be cast out of the company as Chairman, and their debts would come knocking as soon as they were released.

A situation like that would make it impossible for her to be paid. Though she sometimes treated people for free, it was a waste to do the same for Laura.

With the juicy drama abruptly ending, many of the news reporters put away their cameras, getting ready to return to their vans, while a few strutted toward Molly, stealing glances at Jett, who stood with his back to them.

"Sister, your boyfriend has such broad shoulders, and he’s so tall."

"Does he model? If he doesn’t, maybe he can turn toward us so we can raise awareness for him in the media?"

"Yes, that would be great. With a body like his, he must be really good-looking, but even if he isn’t, the media would absolutely gobble up photos of his obviously rock-hard body!"

Hearing the last person, Kelsie’s eyes dimmed slightly.

Molly’s lips twitched, and she shook her head.

"He... he doesn’t like to be photographed. Thank you for the opportunity, though."

At this, they sighed, staring at his back dreamily.

"Oh, what a shame. Someone with his build could make hundreds of thousands, if not millions, once he becomes a model."

"This might be a little crazy, but I feel like I’ve seen this back somewhere."

"I’ve told you to stop saying that. They don’t work on people as much as you think they do."

"What? At least I tried my best!"

They still stood behind them, and since he was mistaken for Molly’s fiancé, Jett glanced at her, and she immediately held his arm.

Together, they hurried into the practice.

Kelsie went in after them.

As soon as they were out of sight, Molly went over to the reception while Jett sighed and inched toward Kelsie.

"I seriously thought something happened when I saw that many reporters outside your practice."

Kelsie thinned her lips, gently massaging the space between her brows. "It’s Laura. Apparently, Jerry and Deborah were arrested, and she needs help bailing them out. I refused to give her any money, so she called the reporters to threaten me."

"I still refused to give her what she asked for, so she grabbed Molly, who went outside to throw out trash."

So that’s what happened.

So the call... she must’ve called to tell him her situation.

On her own, Laura wouldn’t have been able to summon that many reporters, but after what Jerry did yesterday, it was clear they came because they were still curious about which of the two sisters was marrying into the Adler family.

Speaking of marrying... he slipped both hands into his pockets and completely closed the distance between them.

Molly and the two janitors nearby immediately reduced the intensity of their work, watching the duo from the corner of their eye.

Jett pretended not to notice their gazes and reached for Kelsie’s hand, entwining his fingers with hers.

Kelsie watched him, feeling a little disturbed by the sudden tense air.

Eyeing him, she asked worriedly, "What are you doing?"

Jett shrugged, "I’ve been thinking... the kids don’t really do a lot of workout at home."

"They have gym classes three times a week."

"They need space when they’re not at school."

"You’re trying to hint at something. What is it?"

Jett watched her expression and hesitated.

Well... when he found out about the triplets, he built a house twice the size of the Adler family castle in preparation for the ’future.’

In fact, he had been walking around with a ring in his pocket for the past three months.

But he hadn’t asked to move into her apartment knowing there was a seventy percent chance she’d say no.

So telling her about the castle he built—and the elaborate engagement decorations he had Eric set up twice a month for random couples just to study their approach—was probably not the best line of action at this moment.

Hence, he thought fast and hard before mentioning, "Will you be upset if I told you I was doing some repairs on my apartment and a large part of the floor caved in... and I can’t repair it without affecting your apartment... and the best thing to do at this moment is to break down the walls and merge our floor into one?"

There was nothing spicy about anything he said, but the position they were in was really a sight the three people nearby didn’t want to look away from.

Kelsie thought for a moment and nodded in agreement.

But she narrowed her eyes almost immediately, realization dawning on her.

"Wait, doesn’t that mean I’ll have to pay double for both floors?"

The three spectators were shocked by this cluelessness and didn’t know when they turned toward them completely.

Jett’s brows wrinkled.

This woman...

Kelsie saw the perplexed look on his face and laughed softly, reaching up to touch his cheek. "I’m joking..."

He had just exhaled in relief when she added, "We can maybe speed up the free rent you gave me months ago. Slash the time in half, and I’ll stay that long before I pay rent again."

The place fell silent again.

"Hi, where’s Dr. Sutton?" A patient called out just then, causing Kelsie to break away from Jett.

As she left with him, the elderly janitors strolled up to him, patting him consolingly.

"We understand that was just a sly way of saying you want to move in with her, but you have to understand romance isn’t our boss’ strong suit."

"All those calls with you, and I’ve never heard any end with something romantic."

Molly leaned toward the counter, supporting her head with both hands as she sighed loudly, "She even shies away whenever I tell her I love her at the end of every workday. It must be hard for you."

"You have no idea." Jett’s shoulders slumped, and they consoled him even more.

Inside the examination room, Kelsie took out gloves.

She wore her left glove and paused for a moment, reaching into her pocket to take out her phone.

Dialing a number, she pressed it against her ear, trapping it between her head and shoulder as she put on the second glove.

The call only beeped once before connecting.

"Hello, sister-in-law!"

Realizing she couldn’t move the phone away from her ear, she simply grimaced and bore the loud voice.

"Where are you?"

"Me? At home. Why? Jett said I didn’t have to be at the practice with you today. Hasn’t he gotten there? Did something happen? Don’t tell me you tore your stitches again."

"Did anything happen to your floor?"

The man went silent for a while.

Judging from how simple-minded he was and the foot stomps coming from his end, she realized he got up to confirm.

"Our floor? I doubt anything can happen to these floors. They’re as sturdy as they come. I think they’re made from one rare iron."

"So it can’t be broken?"

"There’s nothing that can’t be broken. I’m sure if I check with the manufacturer, he’d tell me. Why do you suddenly care about our floor anyway?"

Kelsie didn’t respond until she was done with the examination and flashed the patient a reassuring smile.

"You’re healing up nicely. Just a couple more weeks and the bandage will come off."

"Thank you, doctor." He exhaled in relief and got up to peer at his bandage in the mirror.

Seeing he had no other worry, Kelsie turned and left the room.

Outside, she slipped a hand into her pocket and glanced around for a moment before whispering into the phone, "That’s because I want you to find out how the floor can be broken... then cave it in before Jett and I return tonight."
