Chapter 225: Chapter 225 Trouble At The Practice

The next two weeks went by rather quickly and peacefully.

Aventis Academy had no idea what had happened and neither Kelsie nor Jett intended to tell them.

While Kelsie still took the kids to school every morning, the Adler family had discreetly stationed security throughout the campus in the form of gardeners, janitors, and official school guards.

That afternoon, her clinic was particularly busy.

Inside her office, she finished examining a patient with a bandage wrapped around his head.

After a thorough check, she leaned back and began pulling off her gloves.

"The swelling will go down, as long as you keep applying the cream and avoid getting the bandage wet."

"Thank you. What they say about you... it’s true." The young man exhaled, his voice full of gratitude.

She raised a questioning brow, "What?"

He lowered his eyes, his voice trembling slightly as he voiced out, "I heard the survival rate for this surgery was barely thirty percent. So I gave away every one of my belongings before coming in three days ago because everyone told me I’d die on the table."

Kelsie smiled faintly.

"Why do you think you paid so much to have me do the surgery?"

He was taken aback by the question, "I don’t know... because you’re the best?"

"It’s so I’ll have enough money to defend myself in court if you died on the table." She replied dryly.

The man chuckled. "You’re just trolling me now. My friend came to you after every hospital told him he was hopeless. Everyone already expected him to die, so you wouldn’t have had a court case on your hands."

"I guess I’m lucky then." She shrugged slightly, proceeding to walk him out of her office, only to stop dead in her tracks.

The reception was in complete chaos.

Molly, her only medical staff and the three elderly janitors, along with the senior security guard, were all pressed to the floor, whimpering.

Her eyes immediately swept the room, locking onto a man sitting behind them with his back against the wall.

His white shirt sleeves were rolled up, revealing full tattooed arms. His top buttons were undone, exposing another inked design crawling up the side of his neck.

Gangsters.

Two of the men standing watch looked up and spotted her.

"Boss, she’s finally out." One of them announced.

The seated man raised his head. When his gaze met hers, a slow, amused smile bloomed across his face.

"You’re a busy woman, Dr. Sutton. Do you know how long I’ve been waiting out here for you?"

"Though I did tell my men to be quiet so they wouldn’t disturb you when they dealt with your staff."

His eyes scanned the frightened employees. "But really, who hires old folks at a place like this? I almost stormed in there to drag you out... until I saw a young face and decided to wait."

"You’re not here to demand an exorbitant fee for protection... from people like you, are you?" Kelsie said flatly.

The man casually placed both feet on Molly’s back. "Look how quickly you figured it out. No wonder you’re such an amazing surgeon—you’re smart."

"Stay back, Dr. Sutton. I’ll handle this!" Her patient said suddenly, stepping in front of her.

He pulled out his phone and began dialing the emergency line.

A gangster snatched the phone from his hand the next second.

The patient opened his mouth to protest and the thug raised his arm to strike him.

"Don’t hit him." Kelsie snapped, stepping forward and grabbing her patient’s arm, pulling him behind her. "He just had brain surgery."

"I can’t tell if you care about him... or the surgery failing," The boss scoffed from where he sat.

Kelsie snatched the phone from the gangster’s grip and guided her now terrified patient aside. fre eweb\(n)ovel(.)co(m)

"My employees are elderly and fragile. And the only young staff I have, your men are three times her weight. Surely, they didn’t pose a threat to you to get beaten up like this."

The man shrugged, unconcerned. "I got irritated when some old guy opened the gate. Then the janitors saw me and didn’t even flinch. No fear in their eyes."

"When I told them I came to trash the place, one of them even said you’d be with me shortly. You can imagine how insulted I felt."

"I inspire fear, and they treated me like a damn delivery man. So I let my boys do their thing while I played a block game on my phone."

He gestured lazily around the reception and nodded in satisfaction. "Judging by your face and what I see, they did a fine job."

Kelsie’s eyes darkened at how lax he was.

Her bullet wound was still fresh and she knew better than to tear her stitches.

Instead, she grabbed a chair, turned it around, and sat across from him calmly.

"So, what do you want from me?"

The man’s lips twitched with amusement.

"You’re just as haughty as the women’s committee described. No wonder they paid so well to have your business ruined."

He glanced at her employees again. "You’re the reason they’re so calm. Look at you sitting here, cool as ice, after I’ve wrecked your clinic and flattened your entire staffs."

Kelsie let out a low, unimpressed chuckle before she glanced at her watch.

As soon as she did, the door burst open and Daniel Adler rushed in, wearing a suit and looking out of breath.

"Sister-in-law! I know I’m late and I’m sorry. Grandfather made me attend that meeting for him."

"Five hours of boring speeches. Can you imagine? I hate..." He stopped mid-sentence, eyes sweeping the wrecked space.

Then, slowly, his dull eyes lit up.

Without another word, he began taking off his suit jacket.

Kelsie’s brows furrowed in confusion.

The gangster, who was preparing to send his men after Daniel, noticed her expression and laughed.

Judging from her reaction, this person wasn’t worth his time at all.

Unaware of why he was laughing, Daniel was already rolling up his sleeves.

"You were expecting Eric, I know. But I’m a much better fighter. You know why I’ve got no position at the company?"

"That’s because the last time Grandfather tried to groom me, I lost my temper at the very first meeting."

"This one heir with more connections than sense, physically challenged me after he heard from his grandfather I was supposed to be on my best behavior. So I sent him to the ICU. Fun days."

He cracked his knuckles, smiling darkly.

"Now. Who do I beat first for this mess?"

Kelsie stared at him, the corners of her lips twitching.

He was either telling the truth or bluffing magnificently.

Whatever was the case, she chose to believe him and pointed at the gangster, who was now rocking himself back and forth on the chair without a care in the world.
