Chapter 171 Statute Of Limitations
Chapter 171: Chapter 171 Statute Of Limitations
"I’m not... sick?" Kelsie mummed to herself in surprise, staring down at the result of the full body scan she did some hours ago.
Watching her intently from behind the desk, Holly bit down on her lip in confusion.
"Why do you look so stunned? Were you hoping you’d be sick?"
Kelsie raised her eyes to briefly glance at her, her left hand gently pressing against her chest in astonishment.
"No, it’s just... my heart has been palpitating a lot recently. I’ve never felt this way before so I reckoned I had come down with a terminal illness. Maybe a heart disease."
Holly inhaled sharply, narrowing her eyes at Kelsie as she suddenly had a hunch.
Noisily clearing her throat, she pushed the computer aside and leaned towards the desk, gesturing with her fingers as she asked, "How do you feel and when does this feeling come?"
Kelsie slowly blinked twice, lowering her eyes to the floor as she recalled the only time she felt this way was whenever Jett was around.
Was this some kind of mutation disease that only appeared whenever she was alone with someone?
The question had just formed in her head when she paused to glance at the inquisitive-looking Holly.
No, that couldn’t be the case. She felt normal now, unlike when she was with Jett earlier...
She absentmindedly trailed off, realization abruptly dawning on her.
The next second, she nervously gulped down and asked, "Holly, have you ever been in love?"
"What does our conversation have to do with love all of a sudden?" Holly was genuinely confused.
But when Kelsie threw a straight face her way, she sighed and nodded. "I’ve been in love before. Two times."
Kelsie placed the lab results on the desk and leaned toward it as well.
"How did you know you were in love? Did you feel a certain way when they got close to you?"
Holly’s pupils constricted thoughtfully before she spoke up.
"How I knew? In both cases, I was always happy to see him. I found everything he did attractive. Even the silly ones."
"I also felt safe whenever I was in his arms. It’s like whenever he’s there, this terrible world became a better place and I missed him so much whenever he wasn’t around."
Kelsie scratched her itchy nose, almost sounding inaudible as she asked, "Did you have heart palpitations? And did you find it hard to stay close to them whenever they were around? Like, you suddenly felt so hot whenever they were in the same room as you?"
Holly hesitated a little as she thought back to that time.
After a while,she shrugged slightly.
"I did have a lot of heart palpitations, but I don’t know about feeling hot. I was attracted to him so I couldn’t keep my hands off him most of the time."
"I see." Kelsie muffled and looked away. Three seconds later, she turned to Holly again, "The hotness, it’s a sign you’re sick. Why is it normalized in this scenario? If you feel that way again, just get a medical checkup."
Holly immediately burst out laughing, then walked around the desk amidst laughter to meet Kelsie.
"Some hotness are signs that you’re sick, yes, but in this case, you only feel that way because you’re attracted to him."
"You don’t feel hot whenever you’re with other people becauee you’re not attracted to them or find them as charming as you find him."
While Kelsie tried to digest this information she prayed wouldn’t be true, Holly lowered her face slightly and turned to look Kelsie in the eyes with a lewd smile.
"What? Did your love for your boyfriend suddenly get more intense?"
Kelsie scoffed and looked away, "How many times do I have to tell you I don’t have have a boyfriend?"
Holly snorted and straightened up.
"Don’t cheat on your boyfriend, Dr. Kelsie."
"What do you mean?" Kelsie was baffled.
Cheating? Where did that come from?
But Holly exhaled heavily and inched closer to her.
"I get that he’s not as good as Jett Adler in many ways, but he was good to you and everyone else in this hospital."
"It you’re already falling out of love for him, at least show him the respect of giving him a clean break-up."
But Kelsie’s brow only creased in confusion the more she spoke.
When Holly finished, she pressed a finger against her temple in exhaustion.
"Holly, I’d be lying if I said I know what you’re talking about."
Thinking this was her refusing to talk about it, Holly grimaced sadly.
"Just don’t cheat on your boyfriend with Jett Adler. I’m sure he’s not that bad and to be honest with you, I trust your judge.
"But Jett Adler doesn’t seem or look like someone who’d appreciate a nice woman like you."
"Someone like him can do whatever he wants. I’ve heard of how wealthy men like him treat a woman like a queen when they’re interested in them and how badly they treat them once they’ve gotten what they wanted."
"Listen to me, Dr. Sutton. Do yourself the favor of not being one of the many women he’s added to his collection."
"Or should I say, don’t be the woman he uses to dispel the rumor that he’s into men, okay? You’re much more than that."
Kelsie was about to ask what the hell she was talking about when a young man walked towards them, timidly.
"Hello, I’m here to meet Dr. Sutton."
"That’s me. Let’s talk in my office." So she refrained from discussing with Holly any further and led the man into her office.
For the rest of the day, she was too busy to go back to Holly.
That night, while she went over the day with the triplets, a worried Calvin Reynolds was having a discussion with his elder brother at the hospital.
"Something about Kelsie Sutton makes me uneasy. It feels like she knows what we’re doing, but is just sitting back and watching us do as we like."
"Like though she has everything all under control, but is keeping herself entertained watching us clown ourselves trying to put her down."
In contrast, Kelvin was rather unbothered as he poured them two glasses of scotch with the words, "Don’t be paranoid, Calvin. She may be Jett Adler’s plaything for now, but she’ll be reduced to nothing later. I doubt he’ll even care what happens to her when he’s done with her."
"Moreover, there’s no proof we did anything. We have Lois Fletcher’s medial record in our database to back that up."
Calvin took the glass being handed to him, but instead of drinking it, set it down again.
"Kelsie is a doctor. Once she goes through Lois Fletcher’s file, she’ll easily find out the paramedics who brought in her mother didn’t do anything to keep her stable until she got to the hospital. Hence, why she ended up dying as soon as she was wheeled in."
"Serbian Howard won’t let us delete any patient’s record and the statute of limitations for her death isn’t expiring until next year."
"If we’re right about Kelsie being as scheming as her mother, then it’s only a matter of time before she gets her hands on her mother’s file. When that happens..."
He stopped talking and jerked backward when Kelvin abruptly reached out and gripped him tightly by the neck, then proceeded to speak into his face.
"What are you so scared of? The statute of limitations for her death will be expiring next year."
"All we have to do is wait it out and make sure she doesn’t get her hands on that file anytime soon."
Calvin clenched his jaw tightly, starting into his eyes defiantly.
"And what if she tries to take us to court before then? If the court asks us to, we’ll be forced to submit her mother’s file. Then what?"
Kelvin chuckled coldly, his eyes clouding over.
"She won’t get that far, and if she does... I once got rid of the mother, how hard would it be to do the same to her young, immature daughter?"
Only then did Calvin become calm.
Kelvin then released his grip on him and walked to his desk to play the movie the hacker had sent to him earlier.
Hearing the explicit sounds, Calvin’s eyes glistened in excitement before he hurried towards his brother.
Wetting his lower lip with his tongue, his eyes didn’t leave the screen as he spoke to his brother, "Two women making love to each other is totally my scene, but when has it ever been yours?"
Kelvin said nothing and simply took out his phone to call someone.
"Is this Maria Santos, the journalist at SV Media? My identity isn’t important. I just came upon something about a certain prestigious surgeon in Haven Medical Center."
"I look up to her... so I’m finding this very hard to say. But the truth will surely come out another day, so I’d rather say it today."
"That woman is a hypocrite. I’ve seen her bash same-sex people who are together , but in secret, she actually watches women making out with each other."
"Yes, she’s a surgeon at Haven Medical Center and her name is Dr. Sutton. Kelsie Sutton."
