Chapter 153 Dr. Scapegoat Sutton
Chapter 153: Chapter 153 Dr. Scapegoat Sutton
As Jett’s eyes emotionlessly roamed the room until they landed on Kelsie, Kelvin Reynolds was walking towards him in surprise.
Mr. Adler, is anything the matter?"
The question had just left his mouth when the staffs turned their heads towards Jett in disbelief.
"Mr. Adler? Don’t tell me he’s a member of the Adler family."
"Who else has the last name Adler in our country? But the most important question is, what is he doing here? I know Dr. Sutton made quite a mess, but was it really worth it to inform the shareholders?"
"The possibility of her being dismissed without any hope of working in another hospital just went up from 60 percent to 95."
"Poor woman. I may not like her, but she’s sure about to have a hard life. To think she has a child and no husband. I feel bad for her."
The whispering naturally died down when they saw Eric Lance rush to Jett’s side, sweating and breathing heavily.
They immediately concluded their assumption was right. This arrogant woman was done for.
While they thought like this, Eric was cussing out Jett in his mind.
For someone who never increased his pace even when he was late to an important function, he sure knew how to run.
All he did was ask a passing doctor where Kelsie was and when he looked back, this long-legged man was long gone.
As if knowing he was being badmouthed, Jett turned to look at Eric and the man immediately put on a stoic face.
Jett shifter his gaze to Kelvin Reynolds a second later, a small frown creeping onto his hardened face.
"A disciplinary hearing? Something serious must’ve happened if you’re voting to dismiss a doctor from the hospital. So how is it none of the shareholders were informed?"
Kelvin laughed nervously, hurriedly shaking his head as he began explaining.
"Don’t get this wrong, Mr. Adler, but I wanted to take care of this on my own. You and the other shareholders already have enough on your plate."
"As the founder and director of Haven Medical Center, I took it upon myself to deal with this issue. So you have nothing to worry about."
Jett slipped his free hand into his pocket, passing the lunchbox to Eric.
"Well, I’m here now. Tell me what happened."
The place grew still.
A moment later, the seated senior doctor shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
"You’re a busy man, Mr. Adler. Are you sure you wish to waste your precious time listening to such an irrelevant matter?"
Jett turned to him sternly. "I’ll decide what’s irrelevant and what’s not."
The senior doctor’a face instantly turned ugly, but he knew better and hurriedly concealed his anger, flashing Jett a bright smile.
"Of course. Forgive me, sir."
Kelvin also nodded in agreement.
"If it’s what Mr. Adler wants, let’s do it then."
The rest of the committee nodded then the chairperson began summarizing.
"Dr. Kelsie Sutton has been a reliable doctor ever since she started here four months ago, so we held nothing against her when we found out she leaves everyday during work hours. We only just found she’s a single mother."
Unhurriedly walking into the room, Jett’s eyes wandered towards Kelsie’s straight back, slowly repeating, "So she leaves everyday to pick up her children?"
The chairperson paused and glanced at Jett in surprise before politely correcting, "Yes, her child."
Realizing his mistake, Jett went mute while the hairs on the back of Kelsie’s neck stood on end.
This jerk, what was he planning? Though he was calculating most of the time, she had come to know he had a tendency to be impulsive.
If he told everyone in this room he was the father of her children without taking precautionary measures, he’d not only be ruining her plan, but the lives of her children.
"So? Is that why you’re opting to dismiss her?"
Her stiff shoulders immediately relaxed in relief when his unbothered voice came up ten seconds later.
The chairperson threw a glance at Kelsie’s way before answering, "Not at all, sir. Recently, she took off in the middle of working hours, not to pick up her child, but to do something else."
"She must’ve thought we’d turn a blind eye like always and we were really going to, but this time, a pstient almost died because of her carelessness." Kelvin Reynolds chipped in from beside Jett.
Jett’s jaw ticked, getting a hunch. "When was this?"
"I believe it was three days ago." One of the senior doctors promptly answered.
Jett sighed inwardly.
Three days ago.
Jesse had hacked every computer in Adler Group and mistakenly slipped about his identity.
He was already in a haste to win some points with this cold-hearted woman.
So after putting the dots together and figuring out she was the woman he slept with seven years ago, he was elated.
Just what were the odds?
In his excitement, a completely rational and reasonable man like him failed to think properly and went ahead to sue her, summoning her to court that same afternoon.
Even after they came to an understanding by signing a marriage certificate they weren’t going to file, the tyres of his car got stolen and he had to ride in hers.
On their way, some hitmen accosted them on the road on the way back. Thus, delaying her from getting to the hospital on time.
What happened three days ago kept haunting him.
But in the midst of this thinking, his facial expression remained cold. Though he winced a few times in regret.
Taking this for his understanding, the committee, who were initially worried he wouldn’t see reason with what they did, sighed in relief.
Calvin strolled to stand before Jett, a faint smile grazing his lips as he said, "Mr. Adler, you understand where we’re going with this, don’t you?"
"Because we let her leave whenever she wanted, it became a habit. We may have hired her under special circumstances, but this is too much."
"What will the public and our patients say when they hear we’re giving one doctor this much preferential treatment? And worse, this treatment almost cost the life of an innocent civilian."
"If we let it slide this time, she’s bound to repeat such again. Furthermore, it would spoil our hospital’s image of being fair to all our employees and and won’t be fair to other doctors."
Behind them, the staffs all began humming in agreement.
The chairperson closed the questionnaire and raised his eyes to gaze at Kelsie again, the corners of his lips twitching in annoyance seeing she still hadn’t cracked.
What?
Did her job mean that little to her, or was she just feeling guilty over what happened and felt it was only right that she be dismissed?
Either way, her stoicism was starting to grate on his nerves.
And he wasn’t the only one who felt this way.
The senior doctors couldn’t stop themselves from leering at her every chance they got.
The chairperson got on his feet and scoffed lightly, eyes pinned on Jett’s face.
"We need to use her as a scapegoat so others with high position won’t think it’s fine to leave work whenever they want."
"You might think this is going too far, but a considerable number of the hospital’s staffs, including nurses, first-years, interns and even residents knew of this habit of hers, yet, they never reported her to us."
Kelvin Reynolds bobbed his head in acknowledgment, chiming in in a regretful voice, "I personally recruited Dr. Sutton and she’s currently on the high rise to becoming our hospital’s best surgeon, so imagine how heartbreaking this is for me."
"Moreover, she claimed she was late that day as some men tried to kill her on the way back. But when we asked her if she had any proof of this attack, she claimed she scrapped her car that same day."
"Isn’t that just convenient to cover up her wrong? A lot of people already look up to her, so I deem it better to let her go before she taints her reputation any more with her lies."
Jett thinned his lips and strutted towards Kelsie. Standing beside her, he turned to face the staffs and lowered his eyes slightly to the floor in apology.
"I didn’t know that much happened which is why my apology to everyone affected is coming this late."
Kelvin huffed and hurried to his side.
"What are you doing, sir? This has nothing to do with you. If anything, I should be the one apologizing since I recruited her."
However, Jett ignored him and raised his eyes towards the staffs.
"At noon, three days ago, Dr. Sutton and I had somewhere important to be. But when we were about to leave, some men stole the three of my car, so she gave me a ride in hers."
"Along the way, we were ambushed by men with rifles and she had to scrap her car as they had shot at it with the intent to kill us."
"Surely, you wouldn’t have appreciated it if a doctor arrived at the hospital in a car riddled with bullet holes, would you?"
