Oops Alpha, Wrong Luna -
Chapter 43
Chapter 43: Chapter 43
Kael’s POV.
I stood in the throne chamber, my heart pounding, my hands clenched tight, my side throbbing under the bandage that still hid my unhealing wound.
Clara’s voice grated, her dark eyes sharp as she pushed for Lila to join the Gamma Training Academy, her daughter standing nervously beside her in her green dress.
The three elders nodded, their gray robes stiff, their faces expectant, but my anger burned hot, my wolf Zeus growling low, his protectiveness fierce.
I didn’t trust Clara, never had, her schemes, her hunger for power, always lurking. Lila was kind, but the academy was brutal, and I didn’t want Clara’s family closer to me or my Luna, Aria, who I knew was pretending to be Celeste.
My chest tightened, guilt and worry mixing, the seer’s warning, "Don’t fall deeply in love with her. You’ll be hurting her" echoing in my mind.
Aria’s quick exit from the dance floor, her scared eyes, her silence tonight, weighed heavy, and I wasn’t letting Clara pull me away from her.
"Please, Kael," Clara said, her voice soft but sharp, her hand on Lila’s shoulder.
"Lila’s strong. She’d serve the pack well." The elders murmured, their eyes on me, but my jaw tightened, my patience gone.
"No," I snapped, my voice loud, my eyes hard.
"The academy’s too dangerous, and I don’t trust your motives, Clara." My words were blunt, my anger clear, Zeus pushing me to protect the pack, to protect Aria.
Clara’s face fell, her eyes narrowing, but I didn’t care. I turned, my boots heavy, storming out of the chamber, the doors slamming behind me, the sound echoing in the quiet hall.
My heart raced, my mind on Aria, her absence at the charity event gnawing at me. Something was wrong, and I had to find her.
Outside, the packhouse was quiet, the torches flickering, the stone walls cold. Brian appeared, his brown eyes steady, his face tense.
"Any news on my Luna?" I asked, my voice rough, my hands clenching, my wound burning.
I needed to know she was safe, needed to fix whatever had pushed her away.
"She’s in the room," Brian said, his voice calm, his hand gesturing down the hall.
"I checked. She’s there." His words eased my heart, but only a little, the worry still heavy, Zeus whining, urging me to go to her.
I nodded, my steps quick, my boots loud as I headed to our room, the corridors dim, the event’s noise faint behind me.
My mind spun, replaying Aria’s exit from the dance floor, her forced smile, her quick steps to the side door.
Seraphina’s smirk as we danced, her denial, "I didn’t do anything" felt like a lie, and my gut twisted, suspicion growing.
Had she said something to Aria, scared her, hurt her? My chest ached, guilt from my coldness that morning, "Go to the room" mixing with fear.
The visions of Aria screaming, blood-soaked, her wolf dying, haunted me, and the seer’s warning made me question everything. Was I the real danger to her? Or was it someone else?
I pushed open the bedroom door, the hinges creaking, the room dark except for a single candle’s glow.
Aria lay on the bed, her silver hair spread on the pillow, her blue dress crumpled, her eyes closed. My heart sank, my breath catching, her stillness heavy.
She looked peaceful, but I knew her, knew the way her lips tightened, her breath too even. She was pretending, avoiding me, and it hurt, sharp and deep.
I stepped closer, my boots soft on the rug, my hand reaching for her hair, wanting to touch her, to feel her warmth.
But the seer’s words stopped me, "You’ll be hurting her" and the vision flashed, her screams, her blood, chilling me.
My hand froze, my heart racing, my wound throbbing.
"Celeste," I said, my voice soft, using her fake name, hiding that I knew she was Aria, waiting for her to trust me with the truth.
My chest tightened, my words heavy. "I know you’re awake." Her eyes stayed closed, her face still, but her breath hitched, just a little, giving her away.
I sank onto the bed, the mattress creaking, my hands fiddling with my shirt, my heart aching.
"I’m not sure what I did," I said, my voice low, shaky.
"But I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you." My words were honest, my guilt raw, Zeus whining, his love for her pushing me to fix this.
I’d been cold, pushed her away, and now she was shutting me out, but I didn’t understand why. Was it Seraphina? The visions? Or something deeper?
She didn’t move, didn’t open her eyes, her silence was like a wall between us. My heart sank, my hands clenching, my eyes on her face, searching for a sign.
I stood, my boots heavy, giving her one last glance, her stillness breaking me. I left, the door shutting softly, my chest tight, my mind a mess.
The hall was empty, the packhouse quiet, the event’s music faint. I headed to my study, my steps slow, my wound burning, my worry for Aria heavier than ever.
In the study, I sank onto the couch, the leather creaking, my hands fiddling with my fingers, my heart racing.
The room was dark, the desk cluttered, the candle’s light weak. My mind spun, replaying Aria’s avoidance, Seraphina’s smirk, the seer’s warning.
Something was wrong, something big, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that Seraphina was behind it.
Her denial, her sly smile, didn’t sit right, and Aria’s fear, her distance, felt tied to her. My wound throbbed, my body weak, the unhealing gash a mystery, adding to my fear.
Was it connected to Aria, to the visions? Zeus growled, his urgency pushing me to act, to protect her.
The door creaked open, Brian stepping in, his face serious, his eyes meeting mine. "You called," he said, his voice steady, his hands clasped behind him.
I nodded, my voice gruff, my hands still fidgeting. "Did I do something to her?" I asked, my eyes searching his, my heart heavy.
"To my Luna? She’s avoiding me, Brian. She won’t even look at me. What’s going on?" My voice cracked, my worry spilling out, Zeus whining, his confusion matching mine.
Aria had switched, gone cold, and I didn’t know why, when I was the one who should’ve been distant, scared by the visions, the seer’s words.
Brian shook his head, his eyes dropping, his voice low. "I don’t know, Alpha," he said, his hands unclenching, his face tense.
"She was in the room, but I didn’t see anything else." His words were honest, but they didn’t help, my chest tightening, my frustration growing.
I leaned forward, my hands gripping my knees, my mind flashing to Seraphina, her smirk as we danced, her quick denial.
"Look into it," I said, my voice hard, my eyes burning into his.
"Find out why she’s snubbing me. Check on Seraphina. She’s hiding something, I know it." My words were sharp, my suspicion clear, Zeus growling, his protectiveness driving me.
Brian nodded, his eyes steady, his bow quick before he turned, leaving the room, the door shutting softly.
