Chapter 61: Have A Taste Of Your Own Medicine

The Rake’s hollow eyes gleamed brightly, emitting waves of spiritual energy that weighed down on Feng Fan, growing heavier with each passing moment. The oppressive pressure threatened to crush him as he struggled to contain the invading spiritual energy wreaking havoc inside his body.

The monster kicked off the ground and lunged at him with terrifying speed, claws aiming straight for his head. Despite his injuries, Feng Fan didn’t dare leave himself undefended.

He raised both arms in front of him and summoned chains to coil around them like armor. The chains absorbed the brunt of the claws’ impact, preventing them from piercing his flesh, but they did nothing to mitigate the overwhelming force behind the strike.

The blow sent him staggering backward.

The Rake didn’t give him a moment to breathe, pouncing on him again and again. Each hit forced Feng Fan further back, and his arms burned with exhaustion; he knew they wouldn’t hold out much longer.

’Come on, Lai Niu, finish this shit!’ he thought desperately, but he couldn’t count on her closing the gate fast enough.

As he frantically searched for a way out, his gaze landed on Luo Li, still locked in battle with the amalgamation, and a reckless idea sparked in his mind.

Instead of blocking The Rake’s next attack, Feng Fan dropped to the ground and rolled to the side, quickly scrambling to his feet and sprinting toward the amalgamation.

"You can’t even kill a weakling like me! What a useless excuse for a hunter you are!" he shouted, throwing a mocking grin over his shoulder.

Though unnecessary—the monster was already set on killing him—his taunt proved effective. Killing intent surged in The Rake’s eyes, and it let out a feral roar before charging after him.

"Luo Li, back me up!" Feng Fan shouted, drawing her attention to him.

The moment her eyes landed on him, she instantly understood his intention, as if they shared a single mind. Feng Fan stopped beside the amalgamation and turned to face The Rake, but his actions unintentionally attracted the aggro from Luo Li’s opponent.

One of the amalgamation’s bone tentacles whipped through the air, aiming to smash him into a pulp.

Fortunately, Luo Li was ready. A translucent barrier materialized above Feng Fan, intercepting the tentacle just in time. The impact reverberated through the barrier, but it held firm.

Right after the tentacle struck, The Rake’s claws closed in, stopping mere inches from Feng Fan’s face. He rolled to the side, narrowly evading the deadly strike. Caught by its own momentum, The Rake’s attack continued forward and, instead of piercing Feng Fan, it plunged into the amalgamation.

Surprisingly, the attack proved devastatingly effective. The amalgamation screeched in agony, writhing as four of its bone tentacles lashed out toward The Rake, desperate to retaliate.

Despite not being its target, The Rake would never tolerate being attacked without retaliation—no matter the reason. In an instant, spiritual energy surged into its claws as it slashed upward, severing the amalgamation’s four bone tentacles in a single motion.

Without pausing, The Rake jumped into the air and swung its claws once more, sending a wave of energy slicing through the amalgamation. The attack cleaved the grotesque mass into five uneven chunks, scattering rotting flesh and shattered bones across the ground.

But to The Rake’s dismay, the amalgamation showed no signs of staying down. As long as the portal to the other side, opened by The Rake itself, remained active, the creature would continue to regenerate.

Realizing it had been outplayed and that continuing was a pointless endeavor, The Rake forced itself to suppress its fury. It turned to face Feng Fan, who stood grinning defiantly.

"Have a taste of your own medicine, you bastard," Feng Fan taunted, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction.

Despite The Rake’s wishes, the amalgamation refused to let him go. As The Rake attempted to disengage and pursue Feng Fan, the amalgamation blocked its path, lashing out with its bone tentacles and forcing The Rake to evade, distancing itself from Feng Fan.

Luo Li glanced at Feng Fan, and despite her usual cold expression, a faint glimmer of appreciation shone in her eyes. She was satisfied with his performance.

"The passage is closed; kill them!" Lai Niu yelled, drawing both Luo Li and Feng Fan’s attention.

They saw Lai Niu and Wu Yunru cutting down the remaining zombies, and this time, none of the fallen corpses rose again or had their body parts fuel the amalgamation’s power.

"Go, Luo Li! Kill those two. I’ve paved the way for you!" Feng Fan shouted, a smirk tugging at his lips as he pointed toward The Rake and the amalgamation.

Whatever appreciation Luo Li had felt for him vanished in an instant. "You’re coming with me!" she snapped, grabbing his arm and hurling him straight at the monsters.

"Luo Li, you heartless woman!" Feng Fan screamed as he soared through the air toward his enemies, cursing her with every breath.

At least she didn’t let him go alone. Right after throwing him, she kicked off the ground and followed.

The Rake saw Feng Fan flying in its direction, and an eerie grin formed on its face. Ignoring the amalgamation’s attacks, it leaped into the air, aiming both claws to skewer Feng Fan from either side.

The amalgamation didn’t seem pleased with its enemy escaping and chased after The Rake. The result? Two monsters charging straight toward Feng Fan.

Knowing he couldn’t do much, Feng Fan curled his body into a ball to minimize the contact area as much as possible, summoning chains around him to form a makeshift barrier. Seeing this, a rare, faint smile tugged at Luo Li’s lips.

"Not bad. Your reaction is pretty good."

Fortunately, Feng Fan didn’t have time to pay attention to her comment, or he would have cursed her entire bloodline. The Rake’s claws crashed into his chains, sending Feng Fan flying like a ball—though, given his current curled-up form, he did resemble one.

But this was exactly the distraction Luo Li needed. The moment The Rake hit Feng Fan, she jumped into the air, spiritual energy surging into her fist as she prepared to strike.
