Chapter 56: Ghost Sealing Scripture

Chapter 56: Ghost Sealing Scripture

Wu Yunru took the lead, his speed enhanced by the contaminated boots on his feet. A baton flashed in his hand, and without hesitation, he swung it against the first possessed villager who dared to block his path.

The unfortunate soul hit the ground face-first, kissing the dirt with its lips.

Most of the ghosts possessing the villagers were merely low-level apparitions. Against Wu Yunru, an E-rank Hunter, they didn’t stand a chance.

Luo Li wasn’t far behind, opting to fight with her fists rather than use her ability. She carefully infused her strikes with just enough spiritual energy to incapacitate the villagers without killing them, mindful of their innocent hosts.

Feng Fan locked his gaze onto the first possessed villager that Wu Yunru had knocked down. ’I hope this works.’

Drawing on the remaining spiritual energy stored within his inner palace, Feng Fan summoned his black chains. Gripping them firmly, he swung the chains beside his body in a tight circle before launching them at one of the incapacitated villagers. The chains coiled around the unconscious enemy like a viper, and Feng Fan immediately activated his cultivation technique—the Ghost Sealing Scripture.

A piercing, high-pitched scream echoed from the villager’s body as the spirit was forcefully extracted. The chains wrapped around the apparition as if they were immaterial themselves, easily bypassing the villager’s physical form. Trapped and writhing, the spirit struggled to shatter the chains, but its efforts were in vain.

With a powerful tug, Feng Fan pulled the captured ghost toward himself.

Just before it collided with him, he released his other hand and formed a hand seal. Spiritual energy flared around his palm as he thrust his hand into the ghost’s head. The spirit’s resistance ceased instantly, and Feng Fan wasted no time, absorbing it directly into his forehead and sealing it within his inner palace.

Lai Niu, who had been watching from behind, stood frozen with her mouth agape. ’What was that? Since when can someone break a possession so easily? And did he just absorb the ghost? I’ve never seen anything like that!’

Hunter couldn’t absorb ghosts directly. They would kill them and absorb their ghostly spiritual energy that would remain after exorcising them.

Despite her confusion, excitement sparkled in her eyes. ’Just as Father said, this Feng Fan must be something special!’

After trapping the ghost inside his inner palace, Feng Fan wasted no time. He circulated his cultivation technique, forcing the newly captured spirit to draw spiritual energy from the other side.

A fresh surge of energy coursed through his meridians, invigorating his entire body.

’It’s good to be able to cultivate again, but... the speed is really lackluster.’

Unlike Ma Chen, who had been a Baleful Ghost, this newly captured spirit was nothing more than an apparition—the lowest tier of ghost. Their cultivation speed couldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath.

However, Feng Fan didn’t let that bother him. His gaze fell on the dozens of possessed villagers ahead, and a wicked grin stretched across his face. ’Since I can’t go for quality right now... why not quantity?’

As Wu Yunru, Luo Li, and Lai Niu continued to incapacitate the villagers, Feng Fan exorcised ghost after ghost. With each soul he trapped within his inner palace, not only did his cultivation speed increase, but his exorcism became progressively faster and more efficient.

But when he absorbed the thirtieth ghost, a peculiar sensation overcame him—like the uncomfortable fullness that followed eating far too much. The Straw Hat atop his head hummed with a warning, and Feng Fan understood he had hit his limit. Given his current cultivation, thirty apparitions were the maximum he could hold within his inner palace at once.

’When I get the chance, I’ll eliminate the weaker ones and replace them with stronger spirits.’

Since he couldn’t capture any more ghosts, Feng Fan dismissed his chains and lunged at the nearest possessed villager, his fists igniting with dark flames.

One of the possessed villagers charged at him, its sharp claws aiming for his neck and its mouth hanging open, saliva stretching between its jagged teeth. Feng Fan sidestepped to the left, avoiding the attack, and delivered a flaming punch directly to its head.

The dark flames bypassed the physical body entirely, searing the spirit’s soul within. Unfortunately for the host, Feng Fan hadn’t controlled his strength properly—two of the villager’s teeth flew through the air as blood spattered from his mouth.

’Oops,’ Feng Fan thought, utterly unbothered as the villager’s head slammed into the ground. ’Well, at least he’ll live.’

Two more villagers lunged at him, their eyes glazed with rage—any living being would be a target in their eyes. This time, Feng Fan made a conscious effort to control his strength. He sidestepped, positioning himself so the two villagers wouldn’t be able to attack simultaneously.

With a quick jab straight to the closest one’s face, he exorcised the ghost within its body. The villager collapsed after the spirit left his body, unconscious, just as the second one barreled forward, tripping over the fallen body.

Unfazed, the possessed man ignored his impending fall and snapped his jaws toward Feng Fan, his sole focus on attacking.

’What a persistent bunch. They really only think about attacking.’

Opening his palm, he slammed it against the villager’s face, exorcising the ghost while simultaneously sending the poor man flying to the side like a ragdoll.

"Bro, you’re really ruthless..." a voice rang out beside him—it was Wu Yunru.

Feng Fan scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "Well... maybe I hit a little too hard."

Wu Yunru shook his head. "A little too hard? I think that guy’s gonna be eating soup for a while."

Before Feng Fan could reply, Luo Li chimed in. "Enough with the jokes; focus. These guys are too weak to create a ghost zone. Whatever caused this must be inside the forest or the graveyard."

Feng Fan’s expression grew serious as he glanced at the path leading to the graveyard. Now free of ghosts, it still exuded an eerie atmosphere; something far more dark and sinister awaited them inside.
