Chapter 44: Say You’re A Dog
Instead of answering Zhu Fu, Feng Fan turned to Hao Qing. When dealing with a troublesome employee, it was always better to go straight to the boss.
"Is this how Cloud Veil treats its customers?" he said loudly enough for everyone inside to hear, and even some passersby outside the store glanced over curiously. "I came here to buy a suit, and this is the kind of treatment I receive!"
Not that it was needed; many already had their eyes glued to the unfolding drama.
Hao Qing could feel sweat forming on her forehead despite the air conditioner blasting at a cool twenty degrees Celsius. Dealing with customers who made a scene was the worst.
Still, her years of experience allowed her to react quickly. She approached Feng Fan with a polite, practiced smile.
"I apologize for my employee’s rudeness, sir," she said smoothly. "I assure you that this is not how we conduct business here."
Feng Fan snorted, putting on an expression of righteous anger. "Hmph. He tried to put a green hat on me right in front of my face and even insulted my wife’s reputation. I demand a public apology!"
Both Hao Qing and Zhu Fu froze, utterly taken aback. Things hadn’t escalated to that point... had they?
Zhu Fu’s face twisted in frustration as he clenched his fists. "Don’t go too far!"
"Oh? Denying what you did now?" Feng Fan taunted, raising an eyebrow. "Then why don’t we take a look at the security footage?"
Zhu Fu sneered. "Who are you to demand our footage? Just get out!"
A grin spread across Feng Fan’s face. These were the exact words he’d been waiting for. He pulled out his badge and flashed it at both Hao Qing and Zhu Fu, letting them take a good look.
"I’m Feng Fan from SIF! Let’s see if this establishment can keep running after today!"
Zhu Fu’s expression crumbled, turning from arrogance to sheer horror. He thought he had found some soft tofu to bully, only to realize he’d been messing with a boulder.
Everyone knew about SIF—the Special Investigation Force, at least in the eyes of normal people. Their existence wasn’t a secret, but their activities were shrouded in mystery.
When police cases turned bizarre, SIF was called in, making them seem like shadowy figures who shouldn’t be provoked.
Even Luo Li was caught off guard.
’This guy... he’s abusing his authority!’ She thought about telling Feng Fan to stop, as SIF only had jurisdiction over supernatural cases and not normal human affairs.
But as she glanced at Zhu Fu, she hesitated. ’Who knows how many women this guy has tricked?’
Hao Qing wasn’t feeling great either, but she kept her composure. She knew Feng Fan was just pressuring them, not actually aiming to shut down the store. ’There’s still a way to salvage this.’
With a forced but polite smile, Hao Qing stepped closer. "Customer, how about I offer you a free suit from our collection as compensation, and we let this matter rest?"
Feng Fan feigned reluctance but nodded with an air of righteousness. "Since you insist, I suppose I’ll accept it. But don’t accuse me of abusing my authority... this was your suggestion!"
Hao Qing and Zhu Fu’s faces darkened. ’What a shameless man!’
"But!" Feng Fan didn’t let Hao Qing end things so easily. "I still need an apology from this dog, right here and now!"
Afraid that Feng Fan might escalate things further, Hao Qing shot Zhu Fu a sharp glare. "If you still want this job, apologize for your idiocy."
Zhu Fu knew he was trapped, caught between a rock and a hard place. He bowed at a perfect ninety-degree angle. "I’m sorry, sir. Please forgive me!"
Feng Fan smirked. "Not bad, not bad. A good start. Now apologize to Luo Li, and make sure to say you’re a dog."
"This—!" Zhu Fu wanted to protest, but one look at Feng Fan’s cold, unforgiving eyes made him swallow his words.
’This isn’t a human’s gaze!’ He finally understood just how dangerous someone from SIF could be.
Zhu Fu could’ve sworn he saw pitch-black flames flickering within Feng Fan’s eyes when their gazes met!
He turned to Luo Li and bowed again, his posture rigid. "Please, Lady Li, forgive this bad dog for insulting you."
Luo Li couldn’t help but feel a bit satisfied, but she maintained her stoic demeanor. "You can go," she said, her voice calm but commanding
Her voice sounded like a divine pardon to Zhu Fu’s ears.
Without a second of hesitation, Zhu Fu bolted out of sight, swearing to never cross paths with that crazy couple again.
Hearing Luo Li’s response, Hao Qing heaved a sigh of relief. If Luo Li decided to make trouble, her career would be on the line.
She took a cautious step away from Feng Fan, eager to put as much distance between them as possible. But how could Feng Fan let his free suit, worth fifty thousand dollars or more, slip away so easily?
"Hold on, lady. Have you forgotten about my suit?" His voice was soft, almost like a whisper, but it sent a chill down Hao Qing’s spine. He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, making her freeze in place. Despite his seemingly calm tone, it felt like the devil himself was whispering in her ear.
Forcing a smile, Hao Qing nodded stiffly. "O-Of course, customer. We would never renege on a promise. I’ll ask another clerk to assist you in selecting your suit."
Feng Fan gave a satisfied nod, letting her go. Turning back to Luo Li, he flashed the same triumphant grin.
"Hey, wife. I just got myself a new suit, looks like you won’t have to pay for it!"
Luo Li’s icy demeanor crumbled once again as her cheeks burned bright red. ’Damn it, can’t he at least lower his voice!’
Another clerk, a woman with a professional smile, soon appeared in front of them. "Good day, customers. My name is Lei Ai. How may I assist you today?"
