Chapter 40: The Abandoned Hospital
Chapter 40: The Abandoned Hospital
Instead of killing the ghost, Feng Fan’s punches only seemed to enrage the Prostitute Killer even more. The ghost lunged at him with newfound aggression, like a rabid dog.
The Prostitute Killer’s speed and strength nearly doubled. Feng Fan tried to block the attacks, but each blow sent him stumbling backward. He couldn’t even keep his footing or assume a proper stance—the ghost’s strikes were just too fast and strong.
’Damn it!’ Frustration flashed across Feng Fan’s face.
The killer’s hands morphed back into palms, pressed tightly together and pointed upward. Spiritual energy surged toward his hands as he prepared a decisive blow.
Feng Fan’s expression hardened. He raised his arms to defend himself, black flames flickering to life as he poured spiritual energy into them.
But just as the killer’s blow descended, a barrier appeared between them.
The ghost screamed in rage at being trapped, pounding relentlessly against the barrier, trying to break through. But Luo Li’s barrier held strong.
Feng Fan glanced at the approaching Luo Li, a cocky smirk tugging at his lips. "I almost had him, but since you’re here, I’ll let you take the glory."
Luo Li shot him a disdainful smile. "In that case, I’ll just lower the barrier and let you finish him off."
Despite her words, she didn’t intend to do that. The barrier started to shrink around the Prostitute Killer, but just as he was about to be crushed, his figure vanished, leaving both of them stunned.
"Huh? Where did he go?"
A running figure appeared dozens of meters away. Luo Li narrowed her eyes and took off after him. Feng Fan dispelled his flames and chains, focusing his spiritual energy on his legs to keep up with her speed.
Though he was slower, he still managed to keep Luo Li within his sight. The Prostitute Killer didn’t run for long—just a few minutes later, he slipped into an abandoned hospital and vanished inside.
Luo Li stopped at the hospital gate, a dazed look on her face.
"Urf, urf," Feng Fan panted beside her, catching his breath after sprinting at full speed. "Why’d you stop? Aren’t we going in?"
"Look closely at this place. Does it seem normal to you?"
"Uh?" Feng Fan gave her a puzzled look.
He took a better look at the hospital in front of him. The building was in ruins, with cracked, crumbling walls covered in thick layers of moss. Vines snaked their way up the sides, weaving through shattered windows and disappearing into the dark interior.
The front gate hung on broken hinges, swaying slightly with a low, eerie creak. Faded, rusted signs barely hinted at what the hospital once was, and the overgrown courtyard was littered with trash and broken glass. The faint smell of mold and decay filled the air.
Then it hit him. ’Why the hell is there an abandoned hospital here? This street is packed with businesses—the land here is expensive as hell!’
As the thought crossed his mind, the hospital seemed to flicker and fade, replaced by a sleek, modern corporate building. Feng Fan’s eyes widened, nearly popping out of his skull.
"What the hell?!"
He blinked twice, and the abandoned hospital reappeared.
"Luo Li... what exactly was that?"
Luo Li’s expression hardened. "A ghost zone... but ghosts never leave their ghost zone willingly. If they do, it crumbles. That means this ghost zone wasn’t created by the Prostitute Killer."
Feng Fan’s face twisted with unease. "Are we going inside?"
"With just our team, I doubt we can do much. But let’s take a look and see if it’s possible to enter. Most ghost zones are hard to leave and enter."
Luo Li and Feng Fan stepped through the broken door of the abandoned hospital. The second they crossed the threshold, an agonizing scream tore through Feng Fan’s mind. He dropped to his knees, clutching his head with both hands as the pain clawed at his skull.
’Fucking hell, what is this?!’
He forced his cultivation technique to circulate, easing the pain just enough to see clearly again. Something sinister had tried to worm its way into his mind but failed—though Feng Fan didn’t notice the danger he had passed through.
After recovering, the first thing Feng Fan did was look at Luo Li beside him. "Luo Li, are you—"
His words caught in his throat like a fishbone. The cold, prideful Luo Li was curled up on the grimy floor, hugging her knees, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Mom, no... don’t hit me... please... I’ll be a good girl from now on... I promise..."
It didn’t take a genius to realize something was wrong. "We need to leave. Now!"
Without a second thought, Feng Fan crouched and pulled Luo Li into his arms.
Since they hadn’t gone far into the hospital, Feng Fan thought they could leave easily, but horror struck him when he looked back—the exit was no longer right behind them, but a good ten meters away.
It was as if they had unknowingly wandered deeper inside the hospital.
Despite his confusion, Feng Fan didn’t hesitate. He sprinted toward the exit, carrying Luo Li with him. If Luo Li, their strongest fighter, was reduced to this state, what chance did he have?
Just as he was about to reach the door, a thick black gas swirled into existence, blocking his path. It took on a grotesque shape—a noseless face with sunken eye sockets and a wide, crooked grin.
If a witch and the Slender Man had fucked, and the baby crawled out of the witch’s ass instead of her vagina, that would be exactly what they’d get.
The gas seemed to pulse and breathe, tendrils of darkness writhing like snakes.
The face leaned closer, its hollow eyes fixed on Feng Fan as it spoke with a sweet voice.
"Already leaving? You just got here. Why not stay a little longer? I don’t get many visitors."
The voice was alluring, like a piece of candy begging to be tasted. A haze settled over Feng Fan’s mind, and his resolve faltered.
"Uh... leave? Why would I leave... it’s so nice here..."
