Only God

Chapter 566: Chapter 484: The Throne Created by God (Two in One)_2

God knew much about the present and the future that was to unfold, and within that knowledge lay countless things that even he, as a Great Angel, could not fathom.

As the Angels indulged day after day in the glory of God, and as he took satisfaction in the great undertaking of uncovering the Ancient Word Temple, God’s hand had already laid out the plans for the next era.

"What... is the Honorable Name?"

Schiller couldn’t help but ask aloud.

"Simply put, the Honorable Name is part of my power, its crystallization.

When the day comes to fruition, I intend to divide my power among you, to share it with the people of the world."

After a brief explanation, God led Schiller slowly toward the ancient throne at the summit of the Cloud Sea.

Schiller, following God, did not dare delay a moment.

"Look at this throne,"

Chen Yi pointed out to the Great Angel,

"That is power enough to change an era."

Upon seeing this, Schiller suddenly realized something and uttered,

"God, you are so magnificent.

I know that nothing in this world has changed, whether it’s the stars or the people on earth, they lack the immense power to propel the arrival of a new era.

Yet, only you have that power, but now... you plan to divide this power into the Honorable Name and give it to the people?

Are you going to place the power to transform the era into the hands of the people?"

At this point, Schiller could hardly contain himself, recalling what God had previously said to Solamus, about dividing his great power among the people.

Therefore, Schiller said excitedly,

"God, you have already granted so much grace, please reconsider your plan.

People are incapable of choosing the next era, they are so frail and unable to withstand the arrival of a deluge.

It should be you who initiates the next era, only you are the King of Kings, and the future remains with the King of Kings. We all obey you."

Chen Yi responded,

"Schiller, I know what you want to say.

I could choose the next era for you, but that is not my will.

You have your own will, your own volition to decide the direction of the new era."

Schiller was somewhat at a loss for words; of course, he understood that people had their own will, their own volition, ever since God bestowed language upon the Ape-man, the unique Logos of humanity had manifested in this world.

But what if... the will and volition of the people invited destruction?

People could redeem or kill, and because they had free will, they enjoyed the blessings of freedom as well as bore the fruits of its evil.

Schiller knew this all too well, having witnessed with Maisy the self-deception of King Nimirda, seen him stride confidently step by step into corruption.

"We are but creatures,"

Schiller whispered in persuasion,

"We can create countless wonders in the world, yet it only takes a moment to destroy them all.

Just as... we can take countless open roads, but it only takes one misstep to fall from a cliff."

Schiller did not wish to see people sharing in God’s great power; in his view, humans were incapable of shouldering such might, nor did they have the right to do so.

After all, whether it was himself or anyone else, they were all just people in the eyes of God.

Humans are not God; they are merely human.

When Schiller got to this point, he said in a low voice,

"Should destruction come once again,

with our capabilities, I see no true redemption apart from beseeching you for salvation."

Even though God had said His mighty power would not diminish, His radiance would not fade, Schiller still could not accept it.

God listened to every word of Schiller’s, His gaze calm and soothing upon the Great Angel, gentle yet resolute, unmoved by whatever the Great Angel might say.

Schiller suddenly felt a sense of powerlessness, understanding that God had made up His mind. The Great Angel, for some reason, felt a surge of sorrow and found himself silently shedding tears.

The Great Angel couldn’t help but say in a trembling voice,

"God, I cannot imagine what it would look like if one day people no longer worship you.

People, due to their pride, walk to the brink of destruction, all past beauty turned to naught, the great cities of nations become ruins, people grovel in suffering, no longer wise but ignorant and foolish, even fathers and sons will sink into darkness! They will no longer be kind, but will fight incessantly, even mothers and daughters will turn against each other!

At that time, no one will worship the reason you bestowed, for it is bestiality that becomes the tool in destruction, people will no longer understand the meaning of goodness, nor will they persist in the right path."

Schiller’s voice broke with sobs, mournful and earnest, as if he had already seen that final outcome.

Humans will always fall, even if they climb, they must still fall.

In the time approaching destruction, kindness would be the first to be demolished, and people would actively execute the most benevolent among them, because to live was to fall, yet the more one fell, the harder it was to live.

Schiller knew this truth better than anyone.

"To me, what’s most important is that people will no longer believe in You," Schiller said, "they won’t believe a word You say, people will no longer have faith in the truth! Instead, they want to destroy the truth!"

God approached him and shook His head, saying,

"So what then?

The truth is self-evident."

...

The truth is self-evident.

Schiller was suddenly stunned.

The words fell, entering from his ears to his heart, and burning fiercely within.

No matter how the winds and clouds changed, how the stars moved, no matter the death of the era or the birth of a new one, no matter how people fell when destruction came, the truth was always self-evident...

And God...

was also self-evident.

"Schiller, no matter what,"

Chen Yi said softly,

"I am still here."

It was a long time before Schiller slowly raised his head, bathed in the gentle gaze of God, with tears still hanging on his face and lips trembling, unsure of what to say.

After a while, he finally said with a quivering voice,

"Yes...

Even if the world no longer worships You, what of it?

You are here, our God is here."

Rather, what significance does the worship of the people have to the existence of God?

In the era before mankind ever existed,

what belief was there in this world?

There was only a God who loved us.

Whether people believe or not, it does no harm to God; at most, it only makes God sad.

Schiller remembered, when the first apocalypse came, countless people had abandoned their faith, and even cursed God...

Yet God had still said,

"To save the entire world for one person."

Schiller understood.

God had never worried about people no longer worshiping Him, had never worried about people no longer believing in the truth.

The worry had always been about himself as a creation.

God, shining with light, stood there, in front of him.

Even on the vast expanse of the Cloud Sea, His radiance was still brilliant, still dazzling.

His gentle gaze seemed to transcend endless time and space, what people worried about, fought over, and feared meant nothing in His eyes, the vast heavens lay beneath His feet, His figure in the glowing light was holy and entirely not of this world.

God placed His hand on Schiller’s shoulder, wiping away his tears,

"Do not fear, do not be afraid,

When you weep, I will wipe them away; if injured, I will heal you,

When you are lost, I will guide you; if you fall, I will pick you up.

No matter what,

I am here, and I am not going anywhere."

It was the greatest promise in the world, a covenant made by God in His own name.

Schiller understood, God allowed people to act with their own will, their own desires, and if one day the apocalypse came, then however destruction arrived, He would save in that manner, if destruction caused injury, He would heal, if destruction caused death, He would bring rebirth.

No matter what happened, no matter what had to be endured, it was all encompassed by God’s love.

And what people had to do, was to do what they wanted, to act according to their own will and desire.

Free will, it was a grace given since the first Ape-man was endowed with language.

Because...

Before the beginning of heaven and earth, God had decided to love us.
