Chapter 215: Chapter 215: Escape from the Mine, Xavier’s Betrayal

Clang, clang...

The sounds of constant collision echoed as Johnnie controlled his flying swords, striking over and over again.

His strength had improved significantly, but his attacks still couldn’t threaten the Divine powerhouse.

But he didn’t care. As long as his sword struck the opponent, there was always a chance to trigger the Seven Sword’s Instant Kill effect, whether it did damage or not.

"Don’t kill us, we surrender..."

At that moment, screams rang out from below. Many of the slave miners couldn’t withstand the attacks from the Mechanical Race and began to beg for mercy.

"It was Selene who tricked us into rebelling. Mechanical Lords, we’re willing to help you deal with Selene and the others." someone else shouted.

A number of the slaves switched sides on the spot, posing a huge threat to Selene’s group.

Johnnie watched coldly. In his eyes, these people deserved to be enslaved by the Mechanical Race.

Selene and the others were in critical danger, but he didn’t step in to help. Instead, he focused all his strength on attacking the mechanical Demon God.

That thing was the biggest threat here—if he could kill it, the rest of the Battle Mecha would be no problem.

The flying swords flashed, launching a furious assault.

Xavier did everything he could to fend off the mechanical Demon God’s attacks, all the while keeping a close eye on Johnnie, his mechanical eyes flickering.

[Ding! Seven Sword Instant Kill effect triggered. You have slain the mechanical Demon God.]

[God-killing power activated. All attributes permanently increased by 10%.]

Suddenly, the prompt messages appeared.

Johnnie was surprised—the Seven Sword’s Instant Kill effect had activated much faster this time.

Looked like luck was still on his side.

Xavier was also surprised, and seeing the mechanical Demon God fall, he let out a sigh of relief.

Then, his gaze fixed on the loot dropped by the mechanical Demon God. After hesitating a moment, he said, "Master, can I have this god-tier Energy Core? If I refine it, I can quickly restore this puppet body."

Johnnie glanced at him and casually put the core away, saying, "I’ll give it to you after the battle."

He already knew Xavier had been copying and studying his mechanical law, obviously for some ulterior motive.

If he didn’t need Xavier to keep the mechanical Divine busy, he would have dealt with him already.

Xavier was disappointed, a trace of resentment flashing in his eyes.

Johnnie didn’t notice. He checked the other item dropped by the mechanical Demon God.

It was a Dark Law Stone!

Another item to boost his law comprehension.

Johnnie put everything away, not rushing to refine them. He jumped back into the fight, supporting Selene and the others as they slaughtered the Mechanical Race army.

Boom! Boom!

The roar of explosions and gunfire echoed all around.

Countless mechanical dogs and Mechanical Golems surged in from all directions, along with powerful Battle Mecha, pouring in like an endless tide. The Spiritual Stonevein was vitally important to the Mechanical Race—they were willing to pay any price to take it back.

Johnnie, however, didn’t seem to care.

As long as no mechanical Divine showed up, no matter how many of these guys came, they couldn’t threaten him.

Besides, killing Battle Mecha always dropped Energy Cores and also increased his skill proficiency.

At this moment, his Technique of Swordsmanship for Controlling Swords needed just over 300,000 more proficiency points to level up again.

It was a shame these Mechanical Race enemies weren’t truly alive, so killing them didn’t level up the Seven Sword.

Otherwise, with this many mechanical monsters around, slaughtering them all would be enough to upgrade the Seven Sword by at least one more tier.

"Master, more Divines are coming—three of them!" Xavier’s voice sounded tense.

Three Divine powerhouses?

Johnnie’s brow furrowed as he looked into the distance. In the gloomy sky, three enormous figures were speeding toward them.

"My lord, we should retreat. There’s no way we can hold them off." Selene said weakly.

She was badly injured now, with only a dozen or so people left by her side—apart from one Minotaur, the rest were all human.

Johnnie felt helpless. He knew that with just Xavier, there was no way they could stand against three Divine powerhouses.

"We’re pulling out." He glanced at the mechanical army still flooding in all around and decisively chose to retreat.

Xavier quickly spoke up: "Master, I know a safe place nearby—even the mechanical overlord can’t detect it."

"Alright, lead the way." Johnnie’s group followed Xavier and quickly rushed out.

These Battle Mecha couldn’t stop them at all.

The group left the Spiritual Stone mine and soon shook off the mechanical horde. Up ahead, a dense forest suddenly appeared.

The entire area was barren, so a forest popping up out of nowhere was especially strange.

"Master, don’t go in! There’s something wrong with these woods!" Suddenly, Maiev’s voice rang out.

Johnnie frowned and stopped, asking in his mind, "What’s the problem?"

Maiev answered, "There’s an enormous life force here. This isn’t a forest—it’s a single ancient tree that’s gained sentience. Every tree you see is actually part of its body."

An ancient tree?

Johnnie looked out at the vast woods, which stretched for dozens of miles in every direction.

If this was all one tree, just how gigantic was it?

"What’s wrong, Master?" Xavier asked in confusion when he saw Johnnie stop.

Johnnie knew for sure this guy was up to no good. If they went in there, chances were they’d never make it out—maybe not even with their lives.

He kept a straight face and said calmly, "Those mechanical Divines aren’t chasing us anymore. We’ll just rest here."

"No, Master!" Xavier interrupted anxiously. "The mechanical overlord sees everything here—only in the forest can we hide from its detection!"

He looked desperate, like danger could strike at any moment.

Johnnie shot him a cold look and said, "If danger shows up, we can always head in then. For now, we rest here."

Everyone else breathed a sigh of relief and sat right down to heal their wounds.

Selene, especially, was the most seriously injured—one of her mechanical arms was gone, and the stump wasn’t flesh and blood but mechanical parts.

Johnnie frowned and asked, "Selene, are you guys even human anymore?"

Out of all of them, only the Minotaur had no mechanical features.

The rest looked almost indistinguishable from the Mechanical Race.

Selene gave a bitter smile and explained, "My lord, it’s not like we wanted to end up looking like this, stuck somewhere between human and monster. But we had no choice. If we couldn’t finish the Mechanical Race’s daily tasks, we’d be dead. So we had to transform ourselves into machines."

The others all looked just as desolate and hopeless.

Johnnie nodded, then looked at the Minotaur and asked curiously, "Why hasn’t this Minotaur been turned into a machine?"

That guy’s bull eyes widened instantly and he snapped, "I’m not a Minotaur, I’m a Bull Demon! I’m strong enough, so I don’t need to become a machine."

Bull Demon?

Johnnie was taken aback. He’d never heard of that race before, but this guy definitely did look different from a Minotaur.

Buzz!

Suddenly, the Intent of the Sword began to hum. Johnnie sensed danger and instinctively dodged to the side.

A cold flash of light sliced past his neck from behind.

It was Xavier!

Johnnie’s gaze turned icy cold. He said in a frosty voice, "Xavier, are you trying to get yourself killed?"

Xavier grinned, his face twisted and sinister, all pretense of humility gone. He replied coolly, "Master, I just wanted to invite you into the forest."

"Hmph!" Johnnie was already ready to kill him, but then his face changed slightly in surprise. He said, "You erased my command! You’ve comprehended the Law of Machinery?"

"For that, I really have to thank you, Master." Xavier looked smug as he said, "My mechanical talent was already over ninety percent. Thanks to your help, I managed to comprehend the Law of Machinery so easily."

Johnnie’s expression grew serious. He had still underestimated this guy.

The others, like Selene, were startled and instinctively hid behind Johnnie. Only the Bull Demon stood by his side, grumbling angrily, "I told you already, you can’t trust these Mechanical Race freaks."

Johnnie glared at Xavier and said coldly, "You don’t actually think erasing that command means I can’t deal with you, do you?"

He willed it, and the Skye shield appeared in his hand, while he summoned the Seven Sword.

Xavier took a step back, clearly showing some fear.

But he pushed down his fear and sneered, "Human, don’t think I haven’t noticed—it’s your longsword that can erase consciousness, but as long as I don’t get hit, I’m not in danger. Enter the forest and I’ll let you live."

"In your dreams!" Johnnie couldn’t be bothered to talk more. The Seven Sword split into seven blades, and the Technique of Swordsmanship for Controlling Swords launched at Xavier.

Xavier was clearly scared and scrambled to dodge.

Even though the Seven Sword’s instant-kill effect on Divines was rare, he didn’t dare take that risk.

"Human, it’s pointless. I have spatial talent. You’ll never be able to hit me." Xavier’s form vanished in a blink, and in the next instant, he appeared behind Johnnie.

Johnnie’s face shifted. Before he could react, a huge force slammed into his back, hurling him uncontrollably toward the forest.

Whoosh!

A strange energy surged all around.

Johnnie quickly steadied himself and rushed to escape.

Rustle, rustle...

But the surrounding trees suddenly came alive, sealing off his retreat. They twisted and spun, thick branches blocking his view.

Johnnie was instantly lost in the woods.

"Get out of my way!" Johnnie shouted angrily, unleashing the Technique of Swordsmanship for Controlling Swords. The Seven Sword flew out, slashing at the trees around him.

Thud...

Wood chips flew everywhere, and a string of damage numbers flashed.

-10258

-10420

...

Johnnie was surprised. This forest wasn’t made up of Mechanical Race lifeforms.

And the damage he dealt was real—his opponent was a Divine powerhouse!

"Human, don’t waste your strength. This is a wood-element Divine, with a unique true body. That weird trick of yours can’t kill it." a voice called out as the trees parted and Xavier’s figure appeared.

"Oh, really?" Johnnie sneered. As long as the Seven Sword’s instant-kill effect triggered, he could kill a Divine. This forest was weird, but it wasn’t unbeatable.

He ignored Xavier and kept controlling his flying swords to attack.

[You have slain Wood Spirit.]

A prompt message appeared, and Johnnie’s eyes lit up. But then he realized—this wasn’t the Seven Sword’s instant-kill effect; it was just a flying sword strike.

This Wood Spirit wasn’t the Divine.

Johnnie looked at the shredded tree nearby and saw a Dryad-stone drop from it.

Looks like Xavier was right—he couldn’t kill this wood-element Divine. Even if the Seven Sword triggered, he’d only be killing a tree.
