Chapter 6 - Hidden Class Quest
Chapter 6: Hidden Class Quest
A set of seven!?
Seeing the equipment’s attributes, Jiang Chen was utterly amazed—what lay before him was an extremely rare seven-piece set.
In Hope World, the standard equipment players could equip included: weapon, helmet, shoulder guards, wrist guards, chest armor, leg guards, and boots.
Rare equipment included: rings, necklaces, cloaks, and shields.
Among them, shields were class-exclusive—only specific classes could equip them, while others couldn’t.
In the early stages of the game, rare equipment was nearly nonexistent. Regular players usually only had the standard seven equipment slots, among which some items formed part of equipment sets.
Most equipment sets typically consisted of two or three pieces at most. Sets with more than five pieces were already rare, and a full seven-piece set like Jiang Chen’s was nothing short of a dream.
Naturally, the set bonuses were powerful. Once all seven pieces of the set were assembled, the player would gain an additional 60 Agility and 30 Strength.
To put that into perspective, a level 10 player had only 50 free attribute points—barely half of what the Wind Spirit Set alone could provide.
What’s more, the attributes of a single piece of the Wind Spirit equipment were already exceptional.
A weapon with +120 attack power was absolutely explosive.
Unfortunately, it required level 10 to equip—so for now, he stored it away.
On top of that, he had also obtained 4,500 silver coins. That translated to 45 gold coins, or 22,500 Chinese yuan.
“I’ve struck it rich—really struck it rich…”
In Hope World, players could exchange gold coins for real-world currency upon logging out. Once Jiang Chen sold off all his gold, he could finally free himself from his current difficult circumstances. With a few more days of effort, he might even be able to qualify for residence in the Safe Zone.
The Safe Zone was the only place in the current world that still symbolized peace and order. At the very least, you didn’t have to worry about someone breaking into your home while you slept to rob you—or worse, threaten your life.
As for the otherworldly creatures…
Jiang Chen never really considered them that threatening to begin with. In this era, humans were far more terrifying than creatures from another world!
The cataclysm had brought out the darkest side of humanity. Even the government could no longer suppress the now-insane masses, which was why the Safe Zones had been established. Whether they could fend off otherworldly beings was uncertain, but at the very least, they carved out pockets of civilization.
“Perfect. I need to pick up the pace and get into the Safe Zone as soon as possible.”
Jiang Chen made up his mind.
His gaze then fell on the final item: a Treasure Map.
[Treasure Map]
Effect: Unknown
Status: Unidentified, unusable
Description: This appears to be a sheepskin scroll bearing some record of something unusual.
The map hadn’t changed visibly despite the Hundredfold Reward amplification, but Jiang Chen was certain it had undergone a massive internal transformation. After all, his god-tier talent had never let him down.
He glanced at his level—already 8. It was time to return to the village elder and submit his quest, maybe stock up on potions, and raise the level of his Barrage Arrow.
…
Returning via the path to the novice village, Jiang Chen noticed that Wild Dog Hill was now crawling with players hunting in teams. As for Chicken Hill near the village entrance—it was packed tighter than weeds on a mountainside.
Before long, Jiang Chen stood once again before the old village chief.
“Village Chief, I’ve returned to hand in my quest.”
Hearing that the quest was complete, the chief was visibly moved.
“A promising youth indeed… Among so many adventurers, I could see your potential at a glance.”
Amused by the flattery, Jiang Chen cheerfully presented the Wild Dog King’s Fang.
“Th-this is… the fang of the Wild Dog King!”
Taking the fang, the village chief’s cloudy old eyes filled with shock.
“You actually slew that many Wild Dog Kings!? This is unbelievable…”
While the village chief was still stunned, Jiang Chen received his quest completion notification.
“Congratulations! You have completed the quest [Slay the Corrupted Wild Dogs]. Rewards: +1 gold coin, +400 EXP.”
“Hundredfold Reward triggered: Final rewards—+100 gold coins, +40,000 EXP!”
As the message ended, a golden glow rose from beneath Jiang Chen’s feet—he’d leveled up once more.
Unfortunately, not quite enough to reach level 10.
[Level: 9 (32,450/50,000)]Unexpectedly, the XP requirement for level 10 was a whopping 50,000, more than the combined requirement for levels 1 through 9.
Most players would likely get stuck at this stage for quite some time.
Jiang Chen was lucky—he already had more than half the XP needed. A little more grinding in the field, and he’d reach the milestone.
“I’ve never seen such a powerful adventurer… Perhaps he’s worthy of inheriting that great one’s legacy…” the village chief muttered.
Legacy?
The word instantly drew Jiang Chen’s attention—this usually signaled a hidden class.
In Hope World, aside from the five basic classes, Hidden Classes also existed. These were scattered throughout the world and could only be discovered through exploration or quests.
Hidden classes had higher base stats and more powerful skills, making them a fast track to strength.
Even Jiang Chen couldn’t ignore their allure.
The village chief then spoke:
“Wanderer, north of our village lies a cave. Inside it is a natural stone basin filled with sacred spring water. If you can retrieve it, I will tell you how to obtain that great one’s legacy.”
“Ding!”
“Do you accept the Hidden Quest: [Proof of Strength]?”
“Accept.” Jiang Chen agreed without hesitation.
“You’re a brave one, no doubt… But I must warn you—within that cave lies a formidable monster. Even our strongest hunter fell to its power. You must be extremely careful,” the elder said solemnly.
Jiang Chen nodded sincerely.
“Since the monster is so strong, Village Chief… do you happen to have any good equipment to help increase my odds?”
“Er… Wanderer, our village is very poor. I’m afraid we have nothing to offer. You’re on your own,” the elder sighed deeply.
“In that case, Village Chief, could you help me appraise this item?”
Jiang Chen didn’t press the issue. Instead, he took out the Treasure Map from his backpack.
“To think you’ve acquired such a mysterious item… Very well. Let me appraise it for free, as thanks for your service to our village.”
The elder placed his hand over the map and murmured an incantation. After a long pause, the treasure map suddenly began to glow.
Jiang Chen opened it—and his heart surged with excitement…
