Chapter 470: Chapter 470: Inner Soul

"How has Prince Xian come to this place?" Yu Yinglei spoke discontentedly, "The hostel is so small, it shall not impose upon Prince Xian. It’s just a pity that Yinglei is a guest here and can only stay temporarily."

Ye Zhenxian chuckled, "I am here to invite the Princess and your esteemed brother to my place for a drink."

"Since Prince Xian himself has extended an invitation, Yinglei shall naturally attend," she responded delicately, turning her head to signal her maid to invite Yu Haoqiong.

Ye Zhenxian nodded, "The Princess truly honors me."

When Yu Haoqiong appeared, after exchanging pleasantries, he said with a smile, "With the grand invitation from Prince Xian, my sister and I would respect nothing more than to comply."

Soon after, the Yu siblings followed Ye Zhenxian to Prince Xian Mansion.

The drinks and dishes were served, and Ye Zhenxian raised a toast, "This evening, let us drink a few more cups, feeling close like kindred spirits."

The Yu siblings each raised their cups in turn.

As the drinks flowed so did the conversation, and the ties between them seemed to grow warmer.

"Why didn’t I see my tenth sister earlier at the hostel?" Ye Zhenxian asked as if in passing.

Yu Haoqiong replied with a smile, "Ah Shi is in the Imperial Palace."

While speaking, a thought crossed his mind, and he asked, "Prince Xian, I have a question, though I’m not sure if I should raise it?"

"We are all amongst our own here. Speak, why shouldn’t you?" Ye Zhenxian gestured with his hand for him to continue.

Yu Haoqiong said, "Prince Xian is currently the oldest Prince in Tiancheng. In my view, the Crown Prince of Tiancheng, being blind and frail, should have been replaced already..."

Ye Zhenxian pointed to his nose and burst out laughing, "I understand what you mean, but unfortunately, I lack sufficient backing to contend with that blind Crown Prince, as you all know his father-in-law is Prince Zhenbei."

The Yu siblings exchanged glances, and Yu Yinglei spoke up, "What does Prince Xian think of Beiliang?"

Ye Zhenxian’s spirits soared, and the corners of his mouth curled upwards uncontrollably, "If Beiliang could lend its support, it would be my great fortune!"

Yu Yinglei smiled playfully, "If Yinglei were to support Prince Xian, how would Prince Xian repay her?"

"How would you help?" Ye Zhenxian’s eyebrows twitched slightly, eager to hear what he wanted to hear.

Yu Yinglei feigned shyness, "Yinglei wishes to be Prince Xian’s Princess of Marriage and marry Prince Xian."

At this, Ye Zhenxian slammed the table, "If I were Crown Prince, you would be the Crown Princess Consort. In the future, if I became Emperor, you would be the Empress!"

Yu Haoqiong raised his glass, "That would be most excellent!"

The Yu siblings exchanged glances again. If they could incite discord among the princes of Tiancheng, their trip to Tiansheng Capital would not be in vain.

A ruthless gleam flashed in Yu Yinglei’s eyes; she intended to make Ye Yiheng taste regret!

Her goal was to become the Empress—not particularly caring whose Empress—most importantly, to make Ye Yiheng regret would be an immensely gratifying matter!

--

Deep into the night, the darkness was profound.

Lai Manting had waited a long while without receiving the antidote.

She kicked Jinju, who was already dozing off beside her, "Go ask, have the Ms. Wu and her son found it, and where is the antidote?"

Jinju rubbed her groggy eyes, "Miss, I’ll go right now."

Saying so, she stumbled to her feet and ran out.

In a quarter of an hour, Jinju returned, "Miss, the men Master sent to find Ms. Wu and her son returned tonight without success, planning to search again tomorrow."

Lai Manting’s emotions collapsed; she screamed, her tightly drawn facial wounds abruptly burst open, causing her such pain that she grimaced.

She wanted to cry, but dared not.

"Go, call my father and mother here!" she screamed hoarsely.

Jinju nodded fearfully and then dashed out again.

Thirty minutes later, Mrs. Feng came over, but Leng Zongfa was nowhere to be seen.

Lai Manting furrowed her brows and asked tearfully, "Mother, why hasn’t father come?"

"Your father has already gone to sleep," Mrs. Feng said, avoiding her daughter’s gaze and looking downcast. "Whatever it is, let’s talk about it tomorrow."

"Mother, please speak on my behalf, ask father to go to the Imperial Hospital and plead them to save my face!"

Even if she obtained the antidote from Ms. Wu and her son, it would only cure the poison from the medicine powder she had been force-fed; the condition of her skin still depended on the Imperial Hospital.

Being her own flesh and blood, Mrs. Feng nodded and agreed, "Rest now, tomorrow I’ll make sure your father goes to the Imperial Hospital to plead your case!"

--

In the dining hall of Prince Zhenbei Mansion,

The four of them chatted until late before departing.

Watching Ye Yiheng leading Leng Yu Yan away, Ye Jiu stuffed her hand into Li Yuyue’s palm, "Princely Heir, walk me back to my quarters, will you?"

"It’s just a few steps, have you forgotten the way?" Li Yuyue withdrew his hand.

Ye Jiu reached for him again, "I’ve had a few drinks earlier, I’m a bit drunk. What if I fall asleep halfway? Don’t you care about me at all, Princely Heir?"

Hearing this, Li Yuyue no longer resisted and let her pull him. "Women are such a hassle, fine, I’ll escort you."

When they reached her room in the hostel, just as Li Yuyue was about to leave, Ye Jiu giggled, "This evening, you said you wanted to teach me a lesson. Have you changed your mind?"

Li Yuyue’s handsome face darkened; he stretched out a long arm, slammed the door shut.

Before Ye Jiu could react, her body was pressed against the door.

"I’ll teach you now!"

No sooner had he spoken than his warm lips sealed hers.

Stunned for merely a moment, Ye Jiu joyfully wrapped her arms around his neck.

On the other side,

Ye Yiheng and Leng Yu Yan returned to their room where he poured her a cup of warm water.

"Ever since Xiaoshan and the others captured the Yu Family father and son, your mood has been off. If there’s anything you’d like to say, I’m a good listener," he offered.

Leng Yu Yan sipped her water, murmuring softly, "Yu Family father and son must have provided Mrs. Feng with poison to harm my mother. I just remembered that, and it made me feel down."

"They’ve been detained; finding out the truth is easy. Do you need my help?"

She shook her head, "Not for now."

He reached out to squeeze her shoulder, "Sometimes, I wish you would lean on me instead of bearing everything alone."

Leng Yu Yan clutched her cup tightly, "Thank you!"

At that, Ye Yiheng quietly sighed.

She continued, "I’m just trying to connect my mother’s death with the trap that ensnared my mother and Father King seventeen years ago."

She raised her eyes to the man standing beside her and asked in a soft voice, "Your Highness, knowing that I was born after my parents were schemed against, would you still want to marry me?"

Father King lavished her with affection, mother treated her as her own daughter.

Yet, even so, the Emperor mentioned more than once the issue of her birth mother’s reputation after arranging the marriage.

Ye Yiheng took the cup from her hand, placed it on the table, then promptly took her hands and pulled her up.

"Yanyan, as humans, we can’t choose our parents, but we can choose our own lives. Choosing you is the one thing I will never regret in this lifetime!"

He spoke emphatically, "Your father, your mother did no wrong. You are their child, an innocent child at that, and you are absolutely blameless!"

His eyes intensely fixed on hers, "It’s you as a person that I like, your inner soul, your excellence. Yanyan, do you understand what I mean?"
