Chapter 346: Help Him Wash His Face
Chapter 346: Chapter 346: Help Him Wash His Face
Seeing him stunned, Leng Yu Yan said, "This one is new and hasn’t been used before."
Wasn’t he just reluctant to use the towel on her dirty face?
If it were her, she wouldn’t want to use something someone else had already used either.
Ye Yiheng stuffed the new towel back into her hands and said indifferently, "Don’t waste it, just use this one."
As he spoke, he put the towel back into the water she had washed in.
Leng Yu Yan hurriedly put the new towel back into her bag and then stopped him, "Wait a moment."
Ye Yiheng paused—what else did she want?
She changed the water in the basin for him and whispered gently, "Let’s change the water."
He didn’t say a word, replaced the towel in the basin, and was about to wash his face when she stopped him again, "Wait, let me help you."
A peculiar feeling crossed Ye Yiheng’s mind, unsure of what it was, he couldn’t figure it out yet, when she took the towel from his hand.
"You have eyebrow pencil sticking to your face; it’s not good to scrub hard," she explained softly, pursing her lips.
Hearing this, Ye Yiheng finally realized and positioned himself in front of her.
Leng Yu Yan looked up at him, raising her arm high, "Could you lower your head a bit, please?"
He cleared his throat and slightly bent over.
Leng Yu Yan, with her fair and tender fingers, delicately wiped his face where she had applied the eyebrow pencil.
The man in front of her had pale skin, a straight nose, and narrow eyes, his thin lips tightly pursed as if preoccupied with thoughts.
She tried to read something from his eyes, but his downcast gaze hid them, leaving her to notice only his long eyelashes.
Such long lashes, comparable to hers, made her fingers itch, wanting to touch them, and count just how many there were.
Her slender fingers tightened around the towel, but ultimately she did not touch his eyelashes.
Ye Yiheng felt uncomfortable, throat dry and itchy for no known reason.
Since he could remember, only eunuchs had closely served him; palace maids handled trivial matters. Dressed and groomed, eunuch Song Guo led a team.
Yet, washing his face was always done by himself.
Today, for the first time ever, a woman had washed his face...
Even now, he couldn’t comprehend how he should feel about it.
The woman in front of him moved slowly and gently, as if afraid of hurting him, and what was worse, her focused gaze on his face made him stiffen.
Her eyes, picturesque and clear, reflected his own image from her beautiful pupils.
Seeing himself with sideburns, somewhat humorous and ridiculous.
But this was her artwork, the one that had helped him smoothly get past the checkpoint at the dock.
What kind of extraordinary woman was she facing?
Delightfully laughing carelessly when happy, tearfully sobbing when sad, calmly dealing with a big wound, yet terrified by a mere bug.
Clearly wary of him, shivering with fear, but sharing a bed with him, she could sleep deeply without a care.
--
On the other side, in the horse carriage.
Miao Zhu, held in Song Guo’s arms, had a very long dream; she dreamt she was running in the snow, but could never reach the end.
Finally seeing the Commandery Princess, she just couldn’t open her mouth to call out to her.
It was as if her mouth had frozen, watching the Commandery Princess drift further away, she cried in desperation.
Song Guo, holding Miao Zhu, suddenly felt several drops of tears on the back of his hand, and quickly stretched his neck to look at the face of the person in his arms.
This movement woke Ruofeng who was dozing off next to him, "What happened, is she awake?"
Song Guo shook his head.
Outside, Mo Chen driving the carriage heard the noise and also turned to ask inside the carriage, "Is she awake?"
Song Guo watched Miao Zhu cry uncontrollably without waking up, and said toward the carriage door, "No."
Ruofeng stretched out his hand to pat her face, "Wake up, Miao Zhu, wake up!"
Miao Zhu, in a daze, heard someone shouting her name but couldn’t wake herself up.
Mo Chen, driving the carriage, grew anxious, wondering why she wouldn’t wake up.
It was unclear how long she had been unconscious in the snowy and icy surroundings; it was better to wake her up quickly.
With this thought, he found a secluded spot, stopped the horse carriage, and climbed inside.
The three men stared at Miao Zhu. It took a long while, but Miao Zhu did not wake up; only her tears kept sliding down.
Song Guo wiped her tears while Ruofeng tucked the blanket around her snugly; Mo Chen lost his temper and slapped her face heavily.
With a crisp slap sound!
Miao Zhu suddenly opened her eyes...
Seeing the three familiar men, Song Guo protected her like a true man. Seeing them, she felt as though she saw her family and burst out crying loudly.
This scene truly stunned them all.
Song Guo: "Why are you in the snow?"
Ruofeng: "What happened?"
Mo Chen: "Where are Liu Yun, Yin Shuang, and Ling Lang?"
One question after another popped out, causing Miao Zhu to cry even harder, her cries turned into an overwhelming tumult.
"What exactly happened?" Mo Chen instinctively knew something serious must have occurred.
Muttering, Miao Zhu said, "They’re dead, all dead."
As she spoke, she turned and burrowed into Song Guo’s embrace, clutching his clothes and rubbing her snot and tears on him.
"Who died, explain clearly!" Mo Chen’s voice rose several notches.
"What’s the use of rushing now? Let her calm down a bit before asking," Ruofeng said softly, "If someone really is dead, what can we do about it now?"
Miao Zhu’s tears lessened a bit; then, she sobbed without strength, hiccupping intermittently.
The three of them waited solemnly for her to finish crying.
After a long while, she finally said, "Mr. Ling put on Your Highness’s large cloak and pretended to be Your Highness, Liu Yun and Yin Shuang hid me in a small cave."
"That cave wasn’t much bigger than a dog’s hole; I lay there not daring to move or make a sound."
"The three of them took the horse carriage and led the assassins away."
"I waited from morning until afternoon, but they never returned."
"The ground was covered in blood and arrows."
"I always hid while waiting for them to come for me, but this time they didn’t."
"I walked down from the cliff, inquiring along the way; someone said a horse carriage had fallen off the cliff..."
"My heart went cold; they were all dead!"
"I thought to rush to Beilan City to report as soon as possible."
"Beilan City was so far; I walked for two days, and the food in my wallet was all gone."
As she spoke, tears welled up again.
Ruofeng quickly took out some food from inside the carriage, Mo Chen poured some water and handed it to her, and Song Guo covered Miao Zhu entirely with the blanket, leaving only her head exposed.
Grasping the dry food, Miao Zhu took big gulps of water.
Song Guo in a gentle voice: "Eat slowly, drink the warm water slowly too, don’t choke!"
After eating and drinking, Miao Zhu’s emotions finally calmed down a bit.
Seeing her settled down, the three sat aside to discuss.
"No wonder there have been fewer assassination attempts these last few days; they must have thought His Highness was dead," Ruofeng said, "We need to continue on to Beilan City."
