Chapter 336: Chapter 336: Help Her Rub

Leng Yu Yan hastily said, "Aunt, Uncle, just help me up, and that’ll do."

Yet Ye Yiheng, as if he hadn’t heard, nodded slightly to the elderly couple and then turned around to carry her into the house.

After setting her down on the floor, he asked, "Does it hurt?"

His voice carried a teasing tone, mixed with amusement.

Leng Yu Yan furrowed her brows, rubbing her sore backside; to say it didn’t hurt would be a lie.

She had suspected that he had seen her in her "heart clothes" and felt uneasy about it. As she passed by him, she didn’t want to be too close to him, so she walked on the cleared path’s edge.

Who would have thought that the remaining snow on the pathway’s edge, though flattened, had turned to ice in some places, slick enough for her to fall right on her bottom.

He was actually laughing at her!

Ye Yiheng laughed again, "If it hurts, you should rub it more yourself. I’ll be going out."

"Hey..."

She wanted to ask him if he had seen the state of her inner clothes gaping open, but hesitated and couldn’t bring herself to ask.

"Hm?" He stopped and turned his head, "You don’t expect me to help you, do you?"

Leng Yu Yan pushed him away with her hand: "Get out!"

She was truly annoyed, at his words and at herself for falling.

The door to the room was open, and everything the two of them did was witnessed by the old couple.

Uncle shook his head and whispered to Aunt, "This young husband is still young. I thought he would tenderly care for her when he carried her in, but look now, he made the little wife cry from anger."

Aunt also sighed, "That fall really looked painful; it was agonizing just to watch."

"In such freezing conditions, the ground so cold, and the little wife having her monthly period, she should really be taken care of well." Thinking of this, Aunt said, "I’ll cook a bowl of sweet soup with eggs, and fry a couple more eggs for lunch later."

Uncle nodded, "I’ll go make a fire."

During breakfast, Ye Yiheng had a bowl of sweet potato congee, and Leng Yu Yan silently ate her sweet soup with eggs.

Someone ate quickly and soon took his bowl to the stove.

Seeing that the snow had lessened a bit, Ye Yiheng asked Uncle for some tools, planning to reinforce the doors, roofs, and the like.

The old man was grateful that he had that thought in mind.

While he was getting the tools, Uncle quietly asked, "Young man, how old are you this year?"

Ye Yiheng said, "Nineteen."

Uncle nodded in understanding, "No wonder."

Hearing this, Ye Yiheng was puzzled, "What do you mean?"

Uncle gestured with his mouth, meaning they should continue talking while working outside with the tools.

Ye Yiheng carried a ladder and followed Uncle outside next to the window.

"You’re still too young, your wife fell down, how can you laugh at her?"

Ye Yiheng frowned, "Isn’t it okay to laugh?"

Her fall was particularly adorable, and that vivacious side of her was something he had never seen before. Even now, thinking about it, he wanted to laugh.

Uncle glanced at the main house and whispered, "Didn’t I tell you yesterday that you need to learn to be caring? Have you forgotten?"

Ye Yiheng: "..."

How was he supposed to care for her?

Did he really need to personally rub her injuries?

If he really did that, she would surely end up fighting him.

Besides, they were not really husband and wife, so he could only smile at Uncle, showing an attitude of having learned his lesson.

After Leng Yu Yan finished her sweet soup with eggs, she went to the house to get cloth, needles, thread, and a measuring tape, and was invited to enter Aunt’s room.

Aunt was sewing a padded jacket, and seeing her come in, she greeted her to sit down.

With a few scratches of the needle over the scalp, she then stitched carefully. After sewing for a while, she sighed, "I’m very happy you could stay at our house. No one has talked with me and my husband for such a long time."

Leng Yu Yan asked, "Isn’t there a village around here?"

"There is a village, just over a few mountains." Aunt sighed again, "We didn’t live here a few years back; we were also in a village on the other side of the mountains."

"Then why did you move to this place?"

With a hesitant laugh, she said, "Don’t make fun of me, little wife. My daughter-in-law can’t bear children, so the villagers mocked her as a hen that can’t lay eggs and laughed at us for taking such a wife. In a fit of anger, his father decided we’d move here. Although we’re quieter here, I reckon my son and his wife feel terrible inside, so they ran off to the south."

"With the New Year approaching, when will they come back?"

Aunt waved her hands, "They came back in the first two years, but they haven’t in recent years."

As she spoke, Aunt quietly wiped away tears.

Leng Yu Yan didn’t know how to console her, so she simply steered the conversation back to sewing clothes.

--

That evening.

In the house, Leng Yu Yan was sewing clothes, while Ye Yiheng leaned against the small square table, flipping through a chess manual.

Suddenly, a ruckus came from outside.

The door of the elderly couple’s room was being knocked on ferociously.

Then a rough voice followed, "Open the door, open the door!"

Leng Yu Yan, on alert, asked Ye Yiheng in a low voice, "Could it be the assassins after us?"

Ye Yiheng shook his head indifferently, "Would assassins shout at the door like that?"

At that moment, the elder had just taken off his outer garment. He hastily draped it on and opened the door, scolding, "What is it with you two again?"

Thug A laughed, "Why can’t it be us? With the New Year fast approaching, hand over all your New Year’s goods. After all, your son and daughter-in-law aren’t here, you two old folks can’t eat that much anyway!"

Thug B chimed in, "Let us help you lighten the load!"

The Aunt brandished a broom and tried to chase them away, "You two rascals, how much have you taken from our house over the years?"

Thug A, "It seems like your family line is about to end; what are you two oldies saving Silver Coin for?"

Thug B, "If it wasn’t for us visiting you so often, no one would even know when you die!"

Aunt angrily retorted, "You’re young, so why not do something worthwhile instead of being hooligans? Is this how your parents raised you?"

This comment enraged the two thugs, one of whom snatched the broom from Aunt’s hands, while the other shoved the elder who was trying to intervene, sending him tumbling to the floor.

Then, the sounds of rummaging and tossing things around followed.

Angered, Leng Yu Yan dropped her sewing, ready to rush out, only to be held back by Ye Yiheng’s hand.

"Stay in the room, and behave yourself."

After leaving that message, Ye Yiheng walked out the door and loudly inquired of the ruffian ransacking the place, "Are you thieves, or are you bandits?"

Thug A turned and snorted, "Who are you?"

Thug B, seeing the tall and formidable newcomer, drew a knife and warned, "I’d advise you to mind your own business!"

Ye Yiheng, hands held behind his back, flexed his fingers and asked calmly, "I’m staying here, and you say it’s none of my business?"

Thug A and B exchanged glances—relatives for a family that can’t bear offspring?

The elder, seeing the knife, immediately shouted at Ye Yiheng, "Go back to your room!"

Ye Yiheng advanced slowly.

Thug B felt an immense pressure emanating from the approaching figure, which caused his knife-wielding hand to tremble before he puffed out his chest, grabbed the elder, and put the knife to his throat.

"If you come any closer, we’ll see if you run faster or my knife is quicker!"

Upon hearing this, the elder’s face turned pale, and Aunt collapsed to the ground.

In the midst of the thugs’ sneering laughter, Ye Yiheng performed an instant teleportation, seized the knife handle, and directly stabbed the knife point into Thug B’s left eye.

A ghostly scream tore through the snowy night sky.

Thug A, too, pulled out a knife and lunged straight at Ye Yiheng.
