Chapter 329: Chapter 329: I’m Not Pregnant

"What is there to look at?"

Leng Yu Yan, both embarrassed and awkward, snatched the menstruation bag and stuffed it into her bosom.

Strangely, it had clearly been packed in her wallet inside the horse carriage; how did it come out?

She rummaged through the bundle again, only then noticing that the wallet’s opening was loose. Perhaps in the rush of packing in the carriage, she had failed to secure it tightly.

Ye Yiheng stood still on the spot.

What had he done wrong?

At this moment, he dared not ask and felt it improper to inquire what that item was for.

Recalling the white chest binder he had touched on her bed before, Ye Yiheng pinched his forehead; why were women’s garments so bizarre?

Leng Yu Yan put on her outer garment and hastened outside.

Ye Yiheng tilted his head to look and saw her heading toward the latrine, his handsome face instantly flushing with a thin layer of red.

He seemed to understand...

Yet he was unsure.

If it really was what he had guessed, having fainted from pain twice before, and with today’s snowy weather, would she be feeling uncomfortable?

Amidst his anxiety, after seeing Leng Yu Yan return and enter the house, Ye Yiheng quickly shut the door to prevent the cold wind from entering.

"How are you?" he asked.

Leng Yu Yan placed one hand on her lower abdomen, and the other on her waist, her eyebrows knitted: "It’s that time..."

Looking up at him and seeing the concern on his face, and with the menstruation bag he had touched, she had nothing left to hesitate about and honestly admitted, "I’ve got... my period."

Indeed, he had guessed right. He instantly understood the purpose of that white item from before and his handsome face turned even redder...

Even the tips of his ears were flushed.

"Does it hurt?"

Leng Yu Yan honestly nodded and walked to the edge of the bed to gently sit down: "Perhaps because I was drenched with icy water the day before yesterday, it’s quite painful."

Ye Yiheng clenched his fists; the icy water had triggered his cold disease and caused her unbearable abdominal pain, a situation he couldn’t swallow.

But her health was the top priority at the moment, so he suggested, "I’ll go tell the old man and Aunt, and we’ll stay a few more days at their place until you’re better, then we can continue our journey."

Leng Yu Yan waved her hand: "It’s not good to trouble them further, I’ll endure, we need to find my father quickly."

On the road of escape, matters relating to the Capital City and Beilan were minimally discussed. If truly necessary, they had to modify how they addressed everything.

On this point, the two had reached a tacit understanding.

Ye Yiheng frowned deeply: "This won’t do, you must listen to me this time!"

Just then, the door was knocked on.

"Young people, could you please help us with something?"

Leng Yu Yan hurriedly got up, and Ye Yiheng opened the door: "Aunt, old man, what do you need help with?"

Aunt hesitantly said, "The snow is too heavy and has collapsed a corner of the kitchen’s roof. We elderly couple want to fix it early enough to cook breakfast. But I’m afraid I can’t hold the ladder steady and risk dropping my husband."

"People get less agile with age," the old man said, smiling shyly. "The bite from the centipede yesterday doesn’t bother me at all; it’s my old arms and legs that are the real trouble."

"This is a small matter, I’ll handle it."

Saying this, Ye Yiheng followed the old couple outside.

Leng Yu Yan, concerned about him, given his injuries and the cold disease, hurriedly followed.

The snow was thick, and the cold was biting, every breath visible as white vapor.

The old couple were clearly of tidy habit; though the snow was deep, a walkway between the houses had been cleared early.

Upon reaching the kitchen outside, Leng Yu Yan saw a corner of the roof had collapsed, with cold air rushing in through the broken gap. Under such conditions, cooking would be too cold. It was necessary to repair the roof more sturdily to prevent it from collapsing under the snow again.

Ye Yiheng climbed up the ladder and took the wooden planks the old man handed up.

Seeing only the Aunt holding the ladder at that moment, Leng Yu Yan quietly stood on the other side, holding it firmly.

Then taking the hammer and nails passed up by the old man, when Ye Yiheng looked down and saw Leng Yu Yan also holding the ladder, he said sternly, "You’re unwell, go back and rest!"

Leng Yu Yan gently shook her head, indicating that he should stop talking.

Aunt chuckled, "Is the little wife pregnant? That certainly would be wonderful news!"

Upon hearing his wife’s words, the old uncle dared not let Leng Yu Yan hold the stairs any longer. "Miss, let me help you."

"No, no, Aunt, Uncle, I’m not pregnant."

Leng Yu Yan’s face flushed slightly as she walked up to Aunt, leaned over, and whispered in her ear.

Aunt smiled meaningfully, "Sooner or later you will be!"

Ugh...

Leng Yu Yan held her forehead, hoping that a certain someone wouldn’t get angry or upset upon hearing this.

After the roof of the stove room was fixed, the old couple cleaned it and then started a fire.

Soon after, Aunt called Ye Yiheng and Leng Yu Yan to the main house for breakfast.

The breakfast consisted of a simple sweet potato porridge, simple yet cozy.

As they were almost finished, Aunt brought a bowl of sugar water and eggs for Leng Yu Yan.

"Aunt, what is this?"

Leng Yu Yan was quite surprised; having lived in such a remote area for five years, she knew that eggs were a precious commodity to the mountain people.

Aunt smiled, "It’s a little nourishment for you."

"I just had porridge, I can’t eat anymore," Leng Yu Yan politely refused.

"Sugar water eggs can help relieve stomach pain; please eat it."

As Aunt spoke, she picked up her and her husband’s empty bowls and walked back to the stove room.

Watching the whole egg in the bowl, Leng Yu Yan fished it out and placed it in Ye Yiheng’s bowl, "You eat."

He had a wound on his back and needed the nourishment most.

Ye Yiheng wouldn’t agree, "My stomach isn’t hurting; you have it!"

At that moment, he relaid the egg back into her bowl.

Seeing this, Aunt, who had returned, chuckled to her husband, "Didn’t we used to be like this when we were young?"

The old uncle laughed along, "It’s been decades, how could I remember?"

Aunt snorted, "Your ears have turned red, and you say you don’t remember?"

The old uncle laughed even more sheepishly and went back to the stove room to heat some water.

Aunt, still smiling, also went back to the stove room and when she returned to the main house, she brought another bowl of sugar water eggs and placed it in front of Ye Yiheng.

"This bowl is for the young husband," she said with a smile to Leng Yu Yan, "You must take care of yourself so that getting pregnant will go smoothly and you’ll suffer less hardship."

Leng Yu Yan’s face reddened, and she sneakily glanced at Ye Yiheng, fearing that he might get upset.

After all, the one who is rarely candid, especially dislikes hearing talks about having children.

Unexpectedly, he smiled, saying, "Auntie is right, my wife should eat more!"

He stubbornly wanted to feed her his own share of eggs.

Leng Yu Yan shook her head, "My stomach is upset, I cannot eat."

"Eat just a little."

She shook her head again, "I really can’t eat it."

Ye Yiheng frowned, clearly insisting that she eat.

"Husband..." Leng Yu Yan summoned him softly, and thinking of the corresponding "wife," she called him again, "husband, I really can’t eat."

With "husband" and "husband" being said, Ye Yiheng coughed lightly and hastily ate both eggs.

Seeing him like this, a triumphant smile appeared on Leng Yu Yan’s face; he had a wound and needed the nourishment most at this time.

Back in their room, Ye Yiheng asked, "Was Yanyan acting spoiled towards me just now?"

"Ah, was I?"

Leng Yu Yan turned around to pack their bags.
