Off Work, Then I Become a Magical Girl
Chapter 77: Outside the Office Building

Lin Yun put down his phone and continued organizing the documents on his desk.

After lunch break, Xia Liang had suddenly sent him a message, suspecting that Moko had been falsifying reports. Recently, Moko had claimed to be out searching for Magical Girls but had been disappearing for unusually long periods. Xia Liang wanted to track and investigate.

Thinking back to how he himself had been the subject of their investigation not long ago, only for them to now turn their attention to Moko, Lin Yun found it amusing. Still, he didn’t refuse.

He activated the tracking spell he had previously placed on Moko, did a quick scan to determine her location, and shared it with the two girls in their group chat.

“But… the orphanage, huh?”

As he continued tidying up his papers, his mind drifted. Maybe there really is a new recruit?

He wasn’t particularly eager about recruiting new Magical Girls, but if they did come across a talented child, the final decision would ultimately be up to them.

After all, following his conversation with his daughter, it wasn’t just Lin Xiaolu who had let go of her burdens—he had come to terms with many things as well.

Soon, he would be resigning from the job he had held for nearly a decade, dedicating himself fully to matters related to Magical Girls. And once he made that decision, it also meant something else—sooner or later, he would have to investigate the truth behind Aya’s death.

Back then, even though he knew there was something suspicious about his wife’s death, he had chosen not to act, heeding the warning of Chrysoberyl Cat’s Eye: You are a father now. You are your daughter’s only family. If something happens to you, no one will be there for her.

But now, things were different. His daughter was a Magical Girl too.

The way it happened was full of unexpected twists and wasn’t exactly pleasant, but since she was determined to walk this path, as her father, he had to do his best to support her.

And that led to another thought—making sure his daughter had a strong team to back her up.

When he first recruited Xia Liang, he had already considered this. But at the time, between working full-time, being a part-time Magical Girl, and tutoring two kids at night, his life was too hectic.

If he had recklessly brought in another recruit back then, not only would he have had no time to train them, but he also wouldn’t have been able to ensure their safety.

He wanted every child under his care to grow strong in a secure environment, to be truly ready before facing the real storms ahead.

Now that he had decided to resign, he felt much more confident about recruiting someone new.

That was why he had readily agreed to Xia Liang and the others tracking Moko.

Once he finished sorting his documents and confirmed there was nothing left to handle, Lin Yun stood up and took one last look at his desk.

To say he felt no attachment to this job would be a lie.

He had worked here for years. It had been exhausting at times, frustrating even, but he had made many friends and learned a lot. More importantly, this job had been a way for him to shape his place in society.

Stepping away from the identity of a Magical Girl and becoming a professional in the corporate world—he hadn’t done it just to avoid sitting around idly. He wanted financial security for his family, something productive to focus on. At its core, it had been a way to ground himself.

A person is the sum of their relationships. We become who we are through the people we meet, work with, and influence.

Walking out of his office, he gently closed the door and let out a long breath.

It was over.

Now, all that was left was to stop by the general manager’s office to say goodbye before officially resigning and closing this chapter of his life.

As he passed by the External Affairs Division, he glanced through the glass partition and locked eyes with an old colleague. Liu Guanshan, feet propped up on his desk, smirked and raised a hand in a casual wave.

Let’s grab a drink sometime.

That was the message he mouthed.

Lin Yun chuckled under his breath. “Yeah, right. Who drinks without a reason?”

When he reached the general manager’s office, he noticed the door was slightly ajar. He paused, adjusted his collar, and knocked lightly.

“Come in.”

A slightly hoarse voice responded from inside.

As Lin Yun stepped in, he saw his company’s general manager, Wang Tengfei, sitting behind his desk, looking at him with a faint smile.

The reason he was a general manager rather than a CEO was simple—Gaosheng was actually a chain brand.

Their small-scale and home elevator business covered the entire southern Donghua region, with headquarters in the nearest central city—Yannan.

Back when Aya was still around, Lin Yun had occasionally traveled for business trips. But after her passing, he had applied for a transfer to the after-sales department to stay in Fangting City and take better care of Lin Xiaolu.

That transfer, and now his resignation, had both been handled by the same man in front of him. But Lin Yun’s mindset had changed completely since then.

“Old Lin, have a seat. You’re really sure about this?”

Wang Tengfei gestured toward the chair in front of his desk. “Let’s be real here. You’ve been with us for years, and you’re damn good at what you do. I was planning to promote you in a couple of years—manager position, easy.”

“We all know your situation at home. Everyone understands why your attendance has been shaky lately. Just tough it out, and things will smooth over.”

But Lin Yun knew there was no "toughing it out" this time.

If it was just a temporary crisis in life, he could endure. But at this point, balancing work and being a Magical Girl mentor was impossible. He had to choose what mattered more.

And without Aya, Lin Xiaolu was the most important thing in his life.

“President Wang, we’ve talked about this many times already. The company has treated me well, but I’ve got personal reasons.”

He smiled politely. “Honestly, I have a lot to take care of at home, and I have no idea how long it’ll take. If I keep dragging this out, I’ll just be making trouble for everyone. It’s better to make a clean break.”

“No trouble, no trouble. You’re overthinking it.” Wang Tengfei tried to persuade him again. “If it’s a family matter, just take a long leave. You’re one of us—why make such a drastic decision?”

Lin Yun sighed dramatically. “Ah, President Wang…”

They exchanged a few more rounds of polite back-and-forth, both playing their parts, until the conversation naturally reached its end.

The only sounds in the afternoon office were their voices, mixed with the hum of the air conditioning.

Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, forming bright patches on the floor.

But amidst the light, a small black speck appeared.

It grew larger and darker, becoming harder to ignore. Slowly, its shape became more distinct—faintly human.

Facing the window, Lin Yun continued his conversation, but his words gradually slowed as he noticed the scene outside.

Then, he fell completely silent.

There was someone outside.

The general manager’s office was on the 17th floor of a high-rise. There shouldn’t be anyone outside the window.

And yet, right now, a figure stood there, gazing at the building from a distance.

A girl.

She was smiling, dressed in a black dress.
