Off Work, Then I Become a Magical Girl -
Chapter 74: Magical Girl Snow
“What are you saying? A Magical Girl?”
The man in the black robe, holding a specially designed communication device and sporting braids, furrowed his brows, his tone unfriendly. “I think I need to remind you so your stiff brain can finally function: there’s a barrier outside, it’s impossible for any Magical Girl to break through. Or are you talking about that little blue brat who’s possibly at the Leaf-tier? Do you really think she could come here?”
After he finished speaking, the voice on the other end of the call buzzed for a while, which added more surprise to his face. “A Magical Girl coming out of the barrier? Are you saying you saw a fairy? Why would there be a fairy here?”
As the voice continued speaking, his expression darkened, and his hand tightened around the communicator. Finally, as if unable to bear it any longer, he abruptly hung up.
He placed the communicator into his black robe and began pacing back and forth restlessly.
He seemed to want to stay calm, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t control his emotions. The message from the phone call had disturbed him greatly. After a moment, he finally punched the wall beside him.
“The intended sacrifice turned into a Magical Girl? This isn’t a funny joke.”
His eyes widened as he muttered to himself, head lowered, his voice heavy with frustration.
After a brief pause, once he had calmed down a bit, he waved at the few black-robed figures near the door, pointing to the desk behind him. “You all come in, keep an eye on the esteemed Ms. Liu. Don’t let her do anything that might harm everyone.”
With that, he glanced back at Liu Wenqin to make sure she wasn’t making any unnecessary moves before turning and quickly leaving the office. Now that he knew where his target—the one-eyed girl—was, there was no need to stay here and waste time with Liu Wenqin. He left the job of guarding her to his subordinates.
White Jingxuan became a Magical Girl.
In a moment of urgency, she expressed her resolve to Moko. After taking the Heartstone Seed, she underwent a brief tutorial. Though still somewhat confused, she managed to complete the transformation smoothly.
Her Magical Girl alias was "Bosetsu."
After gaining the powers of a Magical Girl, she immediately rushed to the floor where magical fluctuations were strongest, where she found Tian Sheng, who was engaged in a life-or-death battle with an enemy. Seeing that Tian Sheng was at a severe disadvantage and about to lose his life, she didn’t hesitate and jumped into the fight.
Even though this was her first time encountering the so-called magical side.
The power of a Magical Girl was a massive downscale attack to the magicians of the material world. Whether in terms of the total amount or quality of magic, or even the physical abilities post-transformation, she far exceeded ordinary humans.
The three stages of a magician’s power: Observation, Interaction, and Mastery, each represented a leap in strength for a magician. However, even at the highest level of Mastery, one could never come close to the power of a Magical Girl.
Therefore, once White Jingxuan joined the battle, the outcome was already decided.
The two black-robed figures possessed many spells. According to Tian Sheng’s estimate, they were masters at the Interaction level. Apart from various energy-based and basic spells, they even prepared psychic spells that could directly strike the soul. But for White Jingxuan, now a Magical Girl, these were meaningless.
The absolute gap in magical and soul power was insurmountable. No matter how skilled one was, it couldn’t make up for that disparity.
As a newly transformed Magical Girl just minutes ago, White Jingxuan hadn’t even mastered the four basic abilities at the Seed-tier and didn’t have a complete understanding of her capabilities. Forget about fine-tuning her abilities—just using them properly was already a fast-paced learning experience.
When she tried to focus her magic and unleash an attack, she completely failed to control it. As soon as she gathered the magic at the tip of her wand, it instantly dispersed, exploding into a burst of pale green magic fireworks.
But even in this rough attempt, when she released large amounts of magic haphazardly, it created an interference effect: her overwhelming magic disrupted the structure of the enemy's spells, erasing them entirely.
This left the black-robed figures momentarily stunned.
White Jingxuan’s thoughts switched quickly. Realizing that she couldn’t control her magic well, she decided to abandon that approach. Instead, she swung her wand and resorted to close combat, knocking out the black-robed figures and easily ending the fight.
With the enemies defeated and Tian Sheng saved, the tense situation finally began to ease.
Of course, simply defeating a few black-robed figures did not mean the crisis was over.
After a brief rest and discussion, Tian Sheng suggested that they change course. The three of them—Tian Sheng, White Jingxuan, and Moko—headed toward the outer perimeter of the orphanage.
According to Tian Sheng, the immediate priority was to break the outer barrier, create an escape route, and secure outside help to prepare for rescuing the people inside.
He knew the basic principles behind the barrier spell. Previously, he hadn’t been able to break it due to a lack of magic, but now things were different. They had a powerful magic source: a Magical Girl.
Tian Sheng would identify the weak point in the barrier, while White Jingxuan would provide the magic. Together, they had a great chance of breaking through.
However...
"Ahem... White Jingxuan, you are really White Jingxuan, right?"
Flying through the air, Tian Sheng, holding his abdomen, asked, "What happened after you escaped? How did you end up becoming a Magical Girl?"
Even as he spoke, he still found it hard to believe.
For most magicians, the term "Magical Girl" was like a mountain hanging over their heads, a peak they could never scale in their lifetime.
After all, compared to the power of a Magical Girl, their efforts seemed like a joke.
Spending ten or even dozens of years trying to increase their magic, researching spells, only to fall short of even the weakest Magical Girl. Anyone who realized this would inevitably feel envy or jealousy, followed by a deep sense of helplessness.
The Magic Kingdom’s selection criteria for Magical Girls were quite strict. The fairies who chose them looked for girls with exceptional magic and soul talent, often highly skilled even on the path of magic. Their magical potential surpassed the ordinary, and with the superlative magic granted by the Heartstone Seed, they became a Magical Girl—a career that crushed magicians in all dimensions.
The only thing that somewhat comforted magicians was that while their numbers were few, Magical Girls were even rarer. Most of the time, they operated within their own circles in the Magic Kingdom and rarely had direct contact with magicians.
They were considered an exception, often treated as if they didn’t exist—this was the general attitude of most magicians toward Magical Girls.
Now, Tian Sheng had seen a Magical Girl with his own eyes. Even more astonishingly, she was someone he had known before.
Thinking back to how White Jingxuan had once been a child in need of his rescue, and now, she had transformed into a powerful being capable of wiping out enemies in an instant—it was a stark contrast that stirred complex emotions in him.
