Off Work, Then I Become a Magical Girl
Chapter 63: Leading Away

Magical Constructs, or simply Magical Armor, are a crucial part of a Magical Girl’s combat abilities.

Veronica had explained this to the two newcomers before—once a Magical Girl reaches Bud-tier, her magic capacity increases, and her Magical Armor awakens, bringing about a significant boost in combat capability.

Of course, there was a condition: the Magical Armor itself needed to be suitable for combat. After all, there were exceptions—like Veronica herself—whose Magical Armor had little to no combat functionality upon awakening, with only an increase in magic capacity to show for it.

But right now, the most important thing was to see what Xia Liang’s Magical Armor would look like and what abilities it possessed.

“So… what do I do again?”

Raising her arm and glancing around, Xia Liang asked with some confusion, “They say it's my True Form, but I don’t feel any different? Though, I do feel a lot more magic flowing through me.”

“Your True Form is part of you. Why would it feel different just because it's being constructed?”

With her arms still crossed, Veronica explained succinctly, “As for using your Magical Armor, first, you need to take out your wand.”

Hearing this, Xia Liang obediently raised her wand and held it horizontally in front of her. “Like this?”

“There’s no need for a specific gesture. Just use it as you normally would—try channeling your magic into it.” Veronica continued guiding her.

“Hmm… like this?”

Following the instructions, Xia Liang released a small surge of magic.

Immediately, her wand reacted in a way it never had before.

The moment her magic touched it, glowing lines rapidly illuminated its surface. Then, just like what had happened to Xia Liang herself a few minutes ago, overlapping phantom images of the wand began to appear.

The shadows flickered like distorted reflections, their forms shifting, gradually diverging from the wand’s original shape.

Tiny magic particles sprayed out along the glowing lines, enveloping the morphing wand as it floated in the air, spinning like a nebula.

Xia Liang’s eyes widened in amazement as she admired the sight.

Even Lin Xiaolu, who hadn’t been particularly interested at first, finally perked up and focused on Xia Liang’s transformation.

“A wand is the most basic form of a Magical Construct—it’s a manifestation of your power. But at the Seed-tier, a Magical Girl without a True Form has no way of uncovering its true nature.”

Gazing at the swirling magic particles forming a nebula before Xia Liang, Veronica spoke calmly, “But now, this state is proof that you’ve earned that right.”

“…And then?”

Xia Liang, deep in thought, asked with growing curiosity, “What should I do next?”

“Say your alias.”

Veronica lifted her chin slightly in indication. “Then, communicate with your Magical Armor. This is your declaration to it—calling it forth from its dormant state and allowing it to reveal its true form.”

Xia Liang straightened her expression and nodded seriously.

She gazed at the swirling magic in her hands, controlled her excitement and nervousness, and took a deep breath—

“Little Viola, Magical Construct—manifest.”

The swirling magic particles momentarily paused, then began to rise, dispersing completely.

Before they could reach the ceiling, the dissipated magic reversed direction, cascading down like a gentle rain of light.

In the glow of the miniature magic curtain, Xia Liang blinked in surprise at her palm.

The object that appeared was… unexpected.

“…This is my Magical Armor?”

Because resting in her hand was nothing but a palm-sized vanity mirror.

By conventional understanding, since a Magical Construct was a combat tool, it should take on a more lethal form.

But in truth, a Magical Construct’s shape didn’t necessarily resemble a traditional weapon.

Just like how Veronica’s Magical Armor consisted of threads and scissors—sewing tools, in a normal person’s view—there were also Magical Girls whose Magical Armor took even stranger forms: writing pens, watering cans, handkerchiefs…

The immense variety of Magical Armor was one of the most defining features that set each Magical Girl apart.

Moreover, a Magical Armor’s power had nothing to do with its appearance. It was determined by the wielder’s skill, creativity, and the potential of the construct itself.

So, the fact that Xia Liang’s Magical Armor was a mirror didn’t surprise Veronica in the slightest.

On the other hand, after her initial shock, Xia Liang picked up the mirror, tilting it left and right, but saw no visible changes in her reflection.

“…Is this really it?”

She murmured to herself before a thought crossed her mind—maybe she needed to channel magic into it?

Without hesitation, she raised her hand, releasing amethyst-colored magic from her palm and directing it toward the mirror.

“While I agree that testing it with magic is a good idea, I strongly suggest you don’t do it inside the house.”

Seeing her actions, Veronica promptly interrupted, then pointed toward the window.

“Unless, of course, you want to accidentally blow up your home.”

“Ah, sorry, sorry.”

Xia Liang quickly withdrew her magic, smiling sheepishly. “I guess I got a little too excited.”

After offering a brief apology, she led Lin Xiaolu and Veronica outside to a nearby open area.

Once they arrived at a relatively spacious spot, Xia Liang wasted no time in taking out her Magical Armor, eager to experiment.

As expected, once magic was channeled into the mirror, its true abilities began to reveal themselves.

Through their tests, they discovered several functions:

First, Xia Liang could change its size and number. She could summon up to five mirrors at once, or enlarge a single one up to a maximum area of one square meter. She could also manipulate them freely within a twenty-meter radius.

Second, the mirrors had two main abilities:

  1. Magic Reflection: The mirrors could partially block and redirect magical attacks. Any magic that struck them would be weakened before being reflected in another direction. Through Xia Liang’s and Veronica’s tests, the mirrors could reflect magic beams, energy streams, magic particles, and even fixed-structure spells—though currently, they could only withstand an attack equivalent to a Bud-tier magic beam.

  2. Magic Transmission: Any magic touching the surface of one mirror could emerge from another mirror, effectively rerouting an attack’s trajectory within their effective range. This ability had a higher magic tolerance, as even when Veronica increased her magic beam’s intensity to near Leaf-tier, the mirrors could still transmit the attack without breaking.

While Xia Liang’s Magical Armor lacked direct offensive power, its utility potential was immense.

“Feels like this is a strong support-type Magical Armor.”

After thoroughly experimenting with her new ability, Xia Liang concluded, “Though, using it effectively in battle will probably take a lot of strategy.”

“For now, yes—it doesn’t seem to have direct offensive capability.”

Veronica, also examining the Magical Armor, gave an objective assessment. “But from what I can tell, once you reach Leaf-tier, there will be plenty of spells that can synergize with your Magical Armor.”

“So, should I start aiming for Leaf-tier now?” Xia Liang playfully stuck out her tongue.

“How many times do I have to tell you? Don’t get ahead of yourself.”

With a light flick to Xia Liang’s forehead, Veronica chided, “For now, just focus on naming your Magical Armor.”

Rubbing her forehead dramatically, Xia Liang protested, “Ow! I object to physical punishment!”

“I barely touched you.”

“But my delicate heart is deeply wounded!”

“Has your ‘delicate heart’ told you the name of your Magical Armor yet?” Veronica deadpanned.

“Oh, actually, I already knew its name when it awakened.”

Lifting her Magical Armor, Xia Liang beamed with excitement.

“It’s called—‘Guiding Departure.’”
