Off Work, Then I Become a Magical Girl
Book 2: Chapter 141: Measurement

Vol 2 Chapter 141: Measurement

The scenery rushed past Cornflower's vision as the enormous Remnant Beast became the sole focus in the deserted streets. Despite its staggering 30-meter frame, the creature moved with unnatural agility, outpacing even the two Magical Girls' flight speed during straight-line pursuits.

When Cornflower avoided its initial lunge using thread manipulation, the beast instantly adjusted its stance, stretching its claws toward the airborne duo once more. The viscous mucus coating its body served dual purposes - enabling ice-like sliding through narrow streets while simultaneously flinging droplets ahead at even greater velocities.

Cornflower had no intention of contact with those sinister secretions, the charred pavement bearing grim testament to their corrosive nature.

"One."

After conveying her plan to Nina, she decisively activated her ruler's power. First came the mucus evasion - the wide-arcing spray left minimal safe zones. Maintaining perfect form, she slowly raised the ruler before her.

"Two."

Their remaining maneuvering space shrank drastically as predicted, the Remnant Beast already charging toward the last viable positions. Without intervention, collision seemed inevitable. Yet Cornflower remained composed, the ruler shifting minutely in her vision as she sought the optimal alignment.

"Three."

The ruler finally locked at a precise angle, visually connecting the beast's claw to a nearby abandoned building. At her cue, Nina abruptly halted her retreat and ducked downward mere moments before the claw's impact, placing absolute trust in her leader's strategy.

CRACK!

A deafening cacophony erupted - first structural collapse, then the sickening crunch of chitin fracturing under immense pressure.

WHOOSH!

Something massive screamed past overhead, outpacing even sound itself.

BOOM!

The earth-shaking impact came afterward, revealing the Remnant Beast now embedded face-first in the pavement behind them, its outstretched claw the only visible part. The shattered carapace exposed pulpy, bleeding flesh beneath - undoubtedly the source of those hideous cracking noises.

"...Amazing."

Though unclear about the exact mechanics, Nina recognized this as her captain's handiwork - some extraordinary ability manifesting through that ruler.

"Not over yet. Stay sharp."

Cornflower maintained combat readiness, swiftly repositioning her ruler. This time, she aligned the "0" mark with the crater's edge and "10" with the beast's maw. Magical runes flashed across the ruler's surface as its power activated.

To Nina's astonishment, the struggling creature's movements grew erratic. Though unimpeded by physical obstacles, its head seemed anchored in place, straining futilely against invisible constraints. Lateral motions became comical circular arcs, as if tethered by some phantom pole connecting mandible to ground.

Understanding dawned on Nina - her earlier narrow escape resulted from Cornflower linking the beast's claw to the building. The creature's momentum had carried it overhead while its anchored limb endured catastrophic stress, ultimately tearing free when the wall collapsed.

The Remnant Beast appeared to grasp its predicament, thrashing violently before attempting to sever its own maw for freedom. Cornflower intervened instantly, aligning her ruler between claw and head, freezing the limb midair.

Methodically, she immobilized each appendage until the beast knelt motionless under multiple constraints - the manifestation of her "Fate Weaver" magic tool's power: "Measurement and Fixation."

Any distance measured by this ruler became an immutable value during her magic's duration. The constraints required precise definitions - currently "maw-to-ground distance" and "limb-to-surface distance." Earlier, fixing "claw musculature-to-wall distance" had transferred the beast's kinetic energy into structural collapse, launching it across the battlefield.
