Off Work, Then I Become a Magical Girl
Chapter 19: Things Falling Like Rain

The Turning Tide

The battle between a Ravager and Magical Girls was always a back-and-forth struggle. As Lin Xiaolu and Xia Liang burned through their stamina and magic due to basic coordination mistakes, the Ravager—now given time to recover—slowly began to gain the upper hand.

This Melt-Chamber-type Ravager had a body covered in thick mucus and an amorphous form, giving it exceptional regenerative abilities. Even as it endured their attacks, it was constantly healing, preventing any fatal injuries.

Now that the girls' suppressive fire was starting to thin out, the Ravager, having preserved its strength, began its counterattack.

The first sign came when Lin Xiaolu, who had been dodging around the Ravager, suddenly realized that its attack range had increased.

Its ground slams were now harder to evade.

A quick glance confirmed the reason—the Ravager had coated its claws in its own mucus, increasing its surface area upon impact.

Even if she wasn’t directly hit, if the mucus splashed onto her, she would be stuck.

On top of that, the repeated ground strikes had soaked the surrounding pavement in mucus, accelerating the Ravager’s slithering movement. Despite its massive size, it was now unnervingly agile.

Xia Liang, who had been launching long-range attacks from the air, was finding it increasingly difficult to land a clean shot.

If their magic reserves were still full, both girls could have pushed themselves to keep up. But in this half-exhausted state, burning more magic without ending the fight quickly would only put them at a greater disadvantage.

They had no choice.

After fighting separately until now, they had to start coordinating.

A Plan Forms

"Hey, you up there!"

While dodging another strike, Lin Xiaolu shouted up at Xia Liang.

"How much magic do you have left?"

"Magic?"

Xia Liang absentmindedly fired another magic beam, striking the Ravager’s head, then asked, "I’ve got some left. Why?"

"Don’t act so familiar! We’re not that close!"

Kicking off the mucus-covered pavement, Lin Xiaolu took to the air.

"If you still have magic, I’ll bait it into exposing a weak spot. You hit it with everything you’ve got!"

"You want me to attack?"

Xia Liang blinked, then smirked in realization.

"Ohhh, you mean you don’t have enough magic left to attack properly."

"You are so damn annoying!"

Lin Xiaolu snapped, but she didn’t deny it.

She couldn’t stand Xia Liang, but she knew when to prioritize the mission.

Without further delay, she changed direction, flying out of the Ravager’s attack range.

Melt-Chamber-type Ravagers had great regeneration, but they weren’t without weaknesses.

Their weakest points were typically their mouths and abdomens.

Since these creatures were usually low to the ground, their bellies were hard to reach.

Which left the mouth.

The easiest way to force it open? Make it attack using its Melt-Chamber.

To fire its biological acid cannons, it would have to rear its head up, open wide, and momentarily stop moving.

That was their window.

With that strategy in mind, Lin Xiaolu and Xia Liang conserved their magic, reducing their attacks while focusing on provoking the Ravager.

It worked.

As the creature realized it wasn’t being constantly bombarded, it grew bolder, attacking more frequently while neglecting its own defenses.

Until finally—

It dropped its guard entirely.

Lin Xiaolu faked an opening, and the Ravager took the bait.

It threw its head back, its massive Melt-Chamber pulsing as it built pressure, pumping biological fluid mixed with magic toward its spray nozzle.

“GRUUUUOOOOOHHH!!!”

With a violent roar, it fired.

The Counterattack

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Huge acid projectiles launched from its underside, crashing into the ground around Lin Xiaolu.

She dodged frantically, letting the Ravager waste its attacks on empty pavement.

Then she shouted—

"NOW! Shoot it in the mouth!"

"Got it! Hmmm… but it feels kinda hard to aim?"

Xia Liang was already in position, her magic staff raised high.

Before her, an unstable-looking sphere of magic energy pulsated wildly.

For an ordinary Magical Girl, the sheer volume of magic in this attack was unnatural.

"But whatever! Let’s just try it!"

She swung her staff down.

A deep violet magic beam tore through the air, accelerating straight toward the Ravager’s gaping mouth.

The Ravager—still recovering from its attack—had no time to react.

The beam hit its body directly.

And that’s when they realized something was off.

A Fatal Mistake?

The plan was to fire the magic directly into the Ravager’s mouth, damaging its internal organs beyond repair.

But when the blast connected, they noticed—

It didn’t hit the mouth.

"Ah. I think I missed?"

Xia Liang looked at her staff, giving an awkward laugh.

She had missed.

But not really.

That was Veronica’s assessment as she observed from the side.

Because instead of hitting the Melt-Chamber’s outer flesh, the blast had struck the spray nozzle itself.

The nozzle wasn’t a common weak spot—it was too small and hard to hit.

But it was also the most fragile part of the Ravager’s body.

And so, it died instantly.

The sheer magic force of the beam backfired through the nozzle, flooding the Ravager’s inner chambers with uncontrolled energy.

The creature didn’t even have time to scream.

Its entire body was obliterated in a single moment.

Veronica watched, silent for a moment.

Sure, the shot had been off-target.

But since they had still won, it was fine… right?

Her thoughts came to an abrupt halt.

Wait.

A chilling realization hit her.

The biological fluid inside the Melt-Chamber was normally kept compressed by the Ravager’s internal pressure and magic.

Now, the Ravager was dead.

And the Melt-Chamber had been destroyed.

Which meant—

Her pupils shrunk.

A look of pure dread flashed across her face as she shouted—

"YOU IDIOTS, GET AWAY NOW!!"

Without hesitation, Veronica threw herself backward, leaping dozens of meters in an instant.

But the two Magical Girls next to the Ravager weren’t so lucky.

Xia Liang, having just exhausted most of her magic, was still catching her breath.

Lin Xiaolu, focused on ground combat, hadn't processed Veronica’s warning in time.

And then—

The Ravager exploded.

A Disgusting Aftermath

It was a literal explosion.

Like a bursting firework, the Ravager’s entire bloated body detonated.

And with it—

The accumulated, rancid biological mucus that had been trapped inside was launched into the air.

Then, as if nature itself was mocking them—

It rained down.

The thick, foul-smelling mucus poured from above, coating the two unfortunate Magical Girls.

The goo itself wasn’t lethal.

Its only real function was to be compressed and weaponized by the Ravager’s body.

But now, it was just putrid, decomposing sludge.

And it stank.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!"

Under the blazing midday sun, two drenched Magical Girls screamed in horror as the smell hit them like a brick wall.
