Obsessive Tycoon and His Swan Girl -
Chapter 390 - 388: Is "Not Bad" Considered Belittling?
Chapter 390: Chapter 388: Is "Not Bad" Considered Belittling?
As a superfan of J, the boys this time were even crazier in cheering for J, naturally intolerant of others discussing J.
Jiang Zhe looked at him lazily: "Haven’t you heard the saying that you can’t please everyone? If a designer could win the whole world’s affection, what would we need other designers for?"
"Even so, you shouldn’t belittle J!"
"Does saying ’not bad’ count as belittling?"
"Even if you don’t like J’s work, it still deserves to be called stunning! ’Not bad’ is definitely not sufficient!"
He argued illogically.
Even a few other students chimed in agreement.
He continued: "Just like you, even though your athleticism is poor, I still acknowledge your academic achievements and looks are stunning, and wouldn’t just describe you with the words ’not bad’."
"Exactly," chimed in J’s die-hard fan.
Xia Enci rolled up her sleeves: "What do you mean by athleticism is poor? You, being tall and strong, should first win against me before you evaluate Jiang Zhe, OK?"
"Fight? I’m not scared of you!"
"Alright, bring it on!"
Everyone was eager to watch the commotion, joining the fray with their shouts.
Seeing this, the instructor laughed: "Women shouldn’t be underestimated; come on, give it a try."
And so, they tried.
Xia Enci never went in for half-measures.
She was petite and good at her events, but the boys all thought she couldn’t possibly fight.
However, the boy was mistaken; he had just started sparring with Xia Enci when she overpowered him.
Xia Enci immediately restrained his arms: "Do you admit defeat?"
The boy was disgruntled.
The instructor asked with a laugh, "Who else wants to have a go with Xia Enci?"
Another boy, also a fan of designer J, volunteered: "I’ll do it! But I have a condition."
"Let’s hear it," said Xia Enci.
"If I win, Jiang Zhe must change her evaluation of designer J, no more careless criticism. After all, Jiang Zhe is a well-known fashion design judge, and her slightest adverse comment could affect J’s reputation."
Xia Enci looked at Jiang Zhe.
Jiang Zhe wasn’t particularly interested in this whole thing but still nodded her head.
Seeing her nod, Xia Enci asked the boy: "And if you lose?"
"If I lose... then I’ll buy your lunch for a month and deliver it wherever you specify."
"And buy it for Jiang Zhe, too," said Xia Enci.
"That depends on whether you can beat me."
The boy finished speaking and launched an attack at Xia Enci, who quickly dodged and started to counterattack.
In just a few moves, Xia Enci had the boy admitting defeat.
The boy, clutching his arm, couldn’t do anything about it.
"My and Jiang Zhe’s meals," remarked Xia Enci, pointing at herself and then at Jiang Zhe.
"Got it," said the boy as he withdrew.
The instructor said cheerfully, "Nice, why not learn some moves from me later on?"
"We’ll talk about it later," Xia Enci ran over to Jiang Zhe, "Xiaozhe, how did I do?"
"Not bad," she replied.
Upon hearing Jiang Zhe saying ’not bad’, everyone looked at her.
Jiang Zhe said unhurriedly, "Indeed, I have a slightly different opinion about J now. I think those two designs are average."
Even worse than ’not bad’.
She had already begun to form new ideas about the traditional style designs.
Everyone: "!!!"
The two boys were huffing with anger and wanted to argue with Jiang Zhe, but seeing Xia Enci standing beside her, they thought better of it.
By the end of the day’s military training, Xia Enci’s fame had spread far and wide.
As training just ended, Jiang Zhe, holding her hat and listening to Xia Enci, walked ahead.
She hadn’t expected to see He Ling.
He Ling, too, was wearing a military training uniform, seemingly having just rushed over after finishing his own military training.
"He Ling, how come you’re here?"
"I’m here on behalf of my brother. I saw the video of you fighting with a guy on your school’s forum. Are you okay?"
"What could possibly be wrong?" Xia Enci flexed her biceps.
He Ling said, "Would you be interested in formal military training? You are physically very strong, and you have a good base, but right now you rely mainly on brute strength in a fight. If you learned some combat skills..."
"Who says I rely solely on strength? I have plenty of finesse, okay? I’m not going."
He Ling realized his words might have been a bit too direct.
But Xia Enci was no longer interested in hearing what he had to say.
"I’m going back to the dorm to shower and change." Xia Enci sprinted away.
Jiang Zhe glanced at He Ling: "You should head back."
"Alright." He Ling turned and left.
Tang Xinru ran up to him: "He Ling! How come you have time to be here?"
"Just some stuff."
"Can I help?"
After considering for a moment, He Ling shook his head.
"Whatever it is, let’s eat first. It’s mealtime, and my treat." Tang Xinru was very enthusiastic.
He Ling smiled: "I have something else to take care of, must go now. Maybe next time."
After saying that, he quickly walked away.
The smile on Tang Xinru’s face froze for an instant.
She had just seen He Ling talking to Jiang Zhe and Xia Enci, and now he was in such a hurry to leave, clearly, he had come specifically for Xia Enci.
She suppressed the discomfort in her heart.
She had seen the post on the school forum, too — Xia Enci’s physical and combat strength never disappointed.
Now in the dormitory, it was best not to meddle more with Jiang Zhe and Xia Enci.
After having dinner.
The instructor came for a dorm inspection.
Jiang Zhe and Xia Enci both stood up, and accompanying the instructor was Professor Tan.
Zhang Lingling greeted enthusiastically: "Professor Tan."
"Mhm." Professor Tan acknowledged and glanced over the dorm, "It’s pretty clean. Jiang Zhe, there will be an interview event for outstanding students in a few days, and I have recommended you to the school. Just prepare some reflections on your studies and your future prospects to share during the interview."
"Okay." Jiang Zhe responded.
Zhang Lingling felt slightly disappointed and asked, "Professor Tan, wasn’t this event for third-year students before?"
She had envied the excellent older students she had seen being interviewed.
Finally, her turn as a junior had come, so why was the opportunity given to a freshman?
"There isn’t a set rule that it has to be third-year students. We always choose the best of the best," replied Professor Tan.
Although Jiang Zhe wasn’t very passionate about traditional Chinese medicine, she had strong learning capabilities, and Professor Tan thought highly of her.
Besides, she was the talent he had worked hard to recruit. The process might have been somewhat cumbersome, but the outcome was positive.
That’s why he chose Jiang Zhe.
Zhang Lingling’s head drooped in disappointment.
Professor Tan gave Jiang Zhe a few more words of encouragement before leaving.
Xia Enci commented, "Xiaozhe, I checked, and each session has had interviews before, with the longer ones reaching up to fifteen minutes and the shortest at three. If you get fifteen minutes, that’s like a mini special interview. You could even appear on Beijing TV."
"I got it." Jiang Zhe nodded.
"Okay, then I’ll be looking forward to seeing you on TV." Xia Enci was more excited than if she had received the slot herself.
Zhang Lingling forced a smile: "Congratulations, Jiang Zhe."
Jiang Zhe nodded in acknowledgment, "Thank you."
Zhang Lingling felt a bit sour, Professor Tan’s remark about choosing the best of the best had cut her deeply.
