His brows and eyes were smiling, realizing he had still underestimated Jiang Zhe.

"What would you like to eat?" Qin Jingchen asked.

"Anything." Jiang Zhe resumed his laziness.

"How about hotpot at home?" Seeing her laziness, Qin Jingchen thought that without something to stimulate her taste buds, he was afraid he couldn’t awaken her appetite.

Jiang Zhe nodded indifferently.

Fen Ye and Qin He stood up: "We’re good at this, let’s go buy the ingredients and prepare them."

Qin Jingchen knew what was troubling Jiang Zhe, "If Yunxuan can adapt to the orphanage, that would be great. If he can’t, he’s also welcome to join me."

"Join you to do what? Learn to cook with you?"

"Cooking for the person you like, is that bad?" Qin Jingchen held her hand and leaned over to look at her.

A good-looking man, everything he says sounds like a sweet nothing, yet his clear and cool voice emanating from his thin lips somehow gained an added touch of sensuality.

The movement of his Adam’s apple was clearly visible.

Jiang Zhe grabbed his tie and pulled him closer; his strong features were right in front of her, dense, luscious, and sharply distinct, bewitching to the extreme, even his beauty could be described.

Only the raging hormones made one aware of the danger of his masculinity.

Jiang Zhe was again attracted to his beauty, carelessly pursing her lips. Just as she was about to release his tie, the man refused to comply and leaned in to kiss her.

His beauty was a fatal attraction, and so was hers, was it not?

Drawing closer to each other, both irresistibly and dangerously enticing.

Jiang Zhe’s fingers clung to his shoulders and back, caressing them, but a glint flashed in her eyes.

It wasn’t until she heard the sound of the password lock being unlocked at the door that Jiang Zhe curled up her long legs and kicked Qin Jingchen away.

Qin Jingchen took advantage of the situation to hold her ankle, drawing circles at her ankle. Although her legs were long, her flexibility was astonishingly good; even with her hands restrained, she could kick straight to his chest.

"Today’s beef is exceptionally fresh. It’ll surely be delicious cooked as tender beef." Qin He’s voice rang out.

Jiang Zhe pushed harder and withdrew her foot.

Qin Jingchen sat back down on the sofa, exchanging satisfied glances with her, issuing a contented chuckle.

Fen Ye sensed something and said, "Jingchen, should we go back and buy some more vegetables?"

"How much can you eat?" Qin Jingchen stood up, regaining his gentlemanly composure as if nothing had happened.

He rolled up his sleeves, revealing his muscular forearms, and walked towards Fen Ye.

Fen Ye was puzzled; was what he sensed just a moment ago just his imagination?

As they all went to handle the ingredients, Jiang Zhe sent a message to Pei Yuan, "Find me a medical record like this one."

Pei Yuan, who received her information, was a bit surprised, "Ancestor, I can’t even understand this medical record."

"So quick to say you can’t understand?"

Pei Yuan was stunned for a moment, "No, I’ll take a closer look and then get back to you, Ancestor."

A coldness crept into Jiang Zhe’s eyes.

"Alright, Miss Jiang, it’s time to eat."

Qin He’s voice came, and with the strong aromatic spice of the hotpot, Jiang Zhe came back to her senses.

She walked over, the ingredients were all ready, and the hotpot was set on the table.

Qin Jingchen handed her chopsticks, "Hmm?"

Jiang Zhe took them and sat down, while Fen Ye and Qin He took out drinks and red wine.

But Qin Jingchen swapped hers with milk.

Jiang Zhe, unusually compliant, had milk with hotpot, which gave her the impression of robust health.

Qin Jingchen noticed that rather than accepting the milk, it was more that her mind wasn’t on it.

What was she thinking about?

The next day, when Jiang Zhe was leaving, Qin Jingchen called out to her, "What about the gift you promised me last time?"

"Gift?" Jiang Zhe seemed to have already forgotten that conversation.

Qin Jingchen’s eyes darkened slightly, "So heartless, forgetting your own words?"

"Oh, I have a bad memory." Jiang Zhe admitted candidly.

There was some disappointment, but Qin Jingchen’s expression relaxed quickly. What gift could be better than having her by his side?

"Heartless." Qin Jingchen ran his fingers through her hair.

Jiang Zhe, carrying her backpack, said, "I’m going in."

...

It was only at noon when Jiang Zhe finished school that she received a call from Jiang Xiliang.

"Jiang Zhe, I’d like to see you, to talk about Fanyue and Yunxuan," he said.

"There’s nothing to talk about, contact my lawyer if you have matters to discuss."

"Jiang Zhe!" Jiang Xiliang’s tone softened, his voice tinged with a touch of helplessness, "Please, I’m asking you as a favor."

Jiang Zhe hung up the phone and took the opportunity during lunch to head out.

Jiang Xiliang was at the hospital.

The air was filled with the scent of disinfectant, sending people hurrying by to avoid it.

Jiang Zhe, however, was accustomed to it and walked in slowly, undisturbed.

She needed to pick up some medication for Aunt Kang; that was why she had come.

Seeing Jiang Zhe, Jiang Xiliang approached her, his expression less severe than before.

"Jiang Zhe, look at this." He handed her Jiang Fanyue’s medical report.

Jiang Zhe didn’t take it, glancing over the report indifferently, her eyes catching a few lines. Jiang Fanyue’s face was quite badly injured, with noticeable knife wounds on her body and fine slash marks on her face.

The doctor had defined it as minor injuries, requiring further examinations and treatments.

Jiang Zhe scoffed, "And so?"

"Fanyue is seriously hurt by you, and there’s a chance she might be disfigured. She’ll need long-term treatment and observation. But under my persuasion, she’s decided not to go to the police," Jiang Xiliang said with a mix of regret.

And some relief that Jiang Fanyue was willing to take his advice and downplay the incident.

When Jiang Fanyue had called him today, he initially didn’t want to deal with this issue. The continuous events had also led him to be quite disappointed with Jiang Fanyue.

However, after he and Wen Xia had lost their daughter to illness years ago, they had longed for a daughter over the years.

He felt a bit sorry for both Jiang Zhe and Jiang Fanyue.

Seeing Jiang Fanyue in such a pitiable state, wounded and distraught, he couldn’t help but take her to the hospital, despite not liking her usual temperament.

"So, you want me to apologize to her?" Jiang Zhe sneered, asking.

If Jiang Xiliang had ever had a shred of good will towards her, Jiang Zhe had already repaid that to him and his wife.

If they still chose to believe Jiang Fanyue now, that was their own business, completely unrelated to her.

She had indeed slapped Jiang Fanyue hard, but the dagger had never touched Jiang Fanyue’s body or face.

As for how those injuries came to be, one could only know in their heart.

Jiang Xiliang shook his head, "The things Fanyue did to end up with these consequences, I do not pity her, nor do I sympathize with her. Whatever temper you have, I don’t find it excessive."
