Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Heaven Played a Joke on Her (Part 2)

Wyatt Sterling wrapped himself up tightly, wearing sunglasses, a mask, and a baseball cap. He was worried about being recognized, given the growing number of obsessive fans. Typically, Wyatt had to have security with him in public places, but for her sake, he didn’t care about any of that. He accompanied her to the hospital for a comprehensive physical check-up.

"Have you been working a lot lately?" The doctor held the examination sheet, his expression somewhat serious. "It’s fine for young people to work hard, but you also have to pay attention to your health."

"I understand, Doctor." Sophie Smith knew that her recent busy work schedule had taken a toll on her body, but she had no choice and had to keep up with the film’s promotion.

"You should reduce your workload now, and your boyfriend needs to be cautious as well." The doctor glanced at Wyatt Sterling. "She is five weeks pregnant."

"What?" Sophie suddenly stood up, unable to believe what she was hearing. "Doctor, is this true?"

"Yes, it’s five weeks."

Sophie felt as if a bolt of lightning had struck her on a clear day. How could this be? Was God playing a joke on her?

Sophie looked back at Wyatt Sterling, but she couldn’t discern any expression on his face. His body was very stiff, perhaps his tightly clenched fists could express his feelings at that moment.

Yes, he was angry. He felt sorry for her, but he couldn’t find a suitable identity or a good reason to protect her.

The father of the child was obvious, but Asher Land, that man of power and influence, could do as he pleased, yet he could never give her simple love and happiness. He couldn’t take responsibility for her emotionally.

Sophie didn’t know how she walked out of the hospital. She sat silently in the passenger seat, turning her head towards the window. Her mind was blank, devoid of any thoughts.

"When do you plan to tell him?" His hands tightly gripped the steering wheel as he tried to keep his emotions calm. Her mood was definitely not good right now, so he wanted to spare her any additional psychological burden.

A tear slipped from the corner of her eye, and Sophie quickly reached up to wipe it away. What was wrong with her? She wanted to act indifferent, to answer his question firmly, but she found herself unable to speak.

"Sophie, please answer me, okay?"

"I—I don’t know." Her voice was choked, and perhaps the only thing she could do was to silently and quietly get rid of the child without saying anything to him.

Wyatt Sterling finally couldn’t hold back, slamming his fist hard on the steering wheel.

"If you can’t tell him, then I will!"

"No!" Reflexively, Sophie grabbed his hand, a hint of pleading in her eyes. "Please, don’t tell him."

"Why?"

"There’s no love between him and me. I want to leave him. This child is just an accident, and I don’t want this accident to become a constant tie between us."

For some reason, when she said these words, her heart felt as if it were being forcibly torn apart, a pain that made it hard to breathe.

She looked so pitiful, that he had the urge to pull her into his arms.

In the silent night, the two of them sat quietly in the car. She needed time to calm down.

"I just hope you promise me, when you need someone by your side, make me your first choice, okay?"

"I will, thank you, Senior Brother."

She was very grateful that at the brink of despair, there was someone by her side to help her, willing to share her burden, and willing to walk with her.
