Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Golden Era Gala (5)
Sophie Smith was wandering outside to avoid the Golden Era Gala, only returning to the Land Family at dawn.
She parked her car in the garage and glanced up, only to find the Land Family house still brightly lit.
It’s so late, yet everyone is still awake?
She carefully took her steps, filled with dread, as she tiptoed through the Land Family’s living room door and headed upstairs.
Luckily, it was just the lights left on, as the servants had already gone to bed, and the master bedroom door was locked, suggesting Asher Land was asleep too.
With only three steps left to reach the second floor, a tall "obstacle" suddenly appeared before her.
A shadow loomed over her head, prompting her to look up instinctively.
"Ah!" She exclaimed in surprise, losing her balance, and luckily someone reacted quickly and grabbed her.
"Should I let you fall to your death?" A man gritted his teeth, daring to stand him up, she was the first.
Asher Land held her wrist firmly, as Sophie Smith’s body leaned back; if he let go, she’d probably tumble down the stairs and end up half-paralyzed.
Sophie Smith remained silent, and Asher Land, seeing no hint of remorse from her for today’s incident, was also fired up.
"Sophie Smith!" He couldn’t help raising his voice.
"What?" Sophie steadied her nerves, pondering how to explain to him satisfactorily, "Irene went to the gala, didn’t she? You had a companion, so why are you angry?"
Asher Land was almost driven mad by her self-righteousness. With added force on his grip, he pulled her up as Sophie straightened herself and brushed her hair.
She looked at him, full of displeasure, unsure of what to say.
He was still dressed in the suit for the gala, with a faint smell of alcohol, suggesting he had been waiting for her to come home.
"Is ’sorry’ okay?"
Sophie thought about it; for the twenty-seven years of Asher Land’s life, he might have never been stood up before. Her actions today could have made him feel imbalanced, so she decided to use her words.
"Sister Sophie, you’ve returned." Irene Morton approached in comfortable pajamas, with a hint of apology on her face, "This matter is my fault, Brother Asher, please don’t blame Sister Sophie."
"That’s not it." Sophie stoutly denied, both individuals willingly traded places; Irene wasn’t to be blamed.
"I didn’t want to go. I’m not interested in your gala. You shouldn’t blame Irene!"
"Enough!" Asher Land interrupted impatiently, his gaze holding a subtle darkness, "Sophie Smith, in the end, it’s just me imagining things. Whether you went or didn’t go has nothing to do with me!"
He turned around, leaving swiftly, followed by the sound of something shattering.
Sophie was stunned, watching his departing figure, unable to say anything.
"Young master, it’s so late, where are you going?" Nanny Garcia hurriedly followed, trying to stop Asher Land.
"Get away!" Initially gathered servants quickly scattered when they saw Asher Land’s foul temper.
Asher Land picked up the car keys from the coffee table and went to the garage to get the car, then drove away.
"Miss Smith, please go persuade the young master; he’s been gloomy since he returned from the gala. I believe only you can make the young master happy."
Nanny Garcia said anxiously to Sophie Smith.
