Chapter 133: Chapter 133 Public Declaration of War (2)
As both of them silently stayed backstage, a familiar figure caught her eye.
"Little Sophie." Edward Harrison, dressed in a white tailcoat, looked handsome and charming.
"Edward, it’s been a while." Sophie Smith couldn’t contain the excitement in her heart and rushed to his side. She originally wanted to give him a hug, but seeing Isabella Yates behind him, she wisely restrained herself.
"Edward, congratulations on being nominated for the Best Newcomer Award." She deliberately made her voice sound calm.
Isabella gave her a disdainful look. Anyway, nothing Sophie said or did would ever satisfy her.
"You’ve really soared like a phoenix, but you should know the higher you fly, the harder you might fall!" Isabella retorted dismissively.
"Isabella!" Edward spoke up, his tone somewhat stern in disapproval.
Isabella was not invited by the organizing committee, so she naturally didn’t have the right to attend the awards ceremony. Seeing Sophie elegantly dressed and appearing in front of the flashlights made her extremely jealous, thus her words naturally carried a sting aimed at Sophie.
Sophie didn’t pay much attention to it. If there ever came a day when Isabella was no longer targeting her, she might actually feel a bit uncomfortable.
Due to Isabella’s presence, there was a subtle awkwardness between her and Edward. Until they entered the awards ceremony venue, they hadn’t exchanged many words.
The awards ceremony was live-streamed at 7:30 pm sharp, with the first award being the Best Newcomer Award. Sophie sat in the audience, her nerves taut as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"The winner of the Best Newcomer Award is..."
Edward! Please let it be Edward!
She repeatedly whispered Edward’s name in her heart.
"Edward!" When the awards presenter finally announced the result, she breathed a sigh of relief.
She watched as the boy who had grown up alongside her took step after step onto the stage of honor, and her heart was filled with immense pride.
Although he was now in the spotlight, his aura shining brightly, to her, he was still the neighbor boy who softly called her Little Sophie. She was grateful for fate, having him exist in the most beautiful moments of her life, even if eventually they would drift further apart.
The awards ceremony proceeded smoothly. By the time it ended, it was already ten o’clock at night. She refused the kind offers by Wyatt Sterling and Edward to take her home and left the awards venue alone.
"Sophie, it’s not safe for you to go home alone. I’ll call the company’s car to pick you up. Just wait a moment." Julia Brown said beside her.
"No need, I’d like to go back on my own." Sophie insisted on going home herself, her mood inexplicably complex. At this time, she just wanted to be alone in silence.
She headed to the dressing room, where she changed out of her luxurious gown into a simple white shirt and jeans.
As she walked along the empty and quiet street, suddenly a sports car appeared in the night, accompanied by the sharp sound of brakes, stopping only two steps away from her.
She was startled, gazing at the sports car so close that her legs felt somewhat weak. She was about to say something, but when her eyes fell on the man inside, she was rendered speechless.
Asher Land sat in the car with a sullen look, not indicating any intention to get out.
Sophie couldn’t fathom his current emotions, nor why he could find her accurately so late at night. More importantly, she didn’t know what he wanted from her.
She glanced around, taking a deep sigh inwardly, then, with somewhat hesitant steps, she walked to the car’s side.
"If you don’t mind, I’ll get in." Facing Asher’s low-pressure demeanor, Sophie said somewhat helplessly.
