Chapter 468: 209. The Birth of the Hooligan Cat, the Predictable Second Round

Earning money, earning money... Jordan was at home watching the regular season and first round financial reports, unable to stop smiling.

He felt he was the strongest NBA owner. The first year after buying the team, he had turned losses into profits; he’d made quite a sum in the second year and figured that in another two or three years, he’d have paid back all the money he borrowed to buy the team!

After enjoying a good laugh, he headed to the stadium to see how the players were preparing.

Today, May 10, was the second rest day after G1 for the Bobcats. Normally, there would only be one day’s rest between two home games, but today had been set long ago as the draft lottery day, and the league had not scheduled any games, so both they and the Knight team had an extra day to rest.

Their G1 had three main players only playing three quarters; they were fine without this extra day, but having it was certainly better.

Upon arriving at the stadium, as he passed by the main entrance, Jordan saw a crowd gathered in the square outside and said, "Linda, stop for a moment. Why are there so many people gathered here?"

The secretary, who was the driver by day and the vehicle by night, stopped the car and responded uncertainly, "Might be fans from out of town here to watch tomorrow’s game, coming to check out the stadium today."

"Then what are they doing crowding the square? The stadium should be open today... Go park the car, after you’ve parked, wait for me in the office."

After saying this and giving it some thought, Jordan changed into the Bobcats’ #23 jersey, put on a baseball cap, got out of the car, and went to see what the fuss was about.

Standing on the outskirts of the crowd, Jordan, having the advantage of his height, saw who was surrounded by the people... their mascot Rufus?

What’s going on?

Did the fans hate their mascot so much that they wanted to beat him up?

He cursed under his breath. Hadn’t he already instructed yesterday for Bobby, who played Rufus, to take a paid leave?

The locals really didn’t like the Rufus mascot, and being someone open to suggestions, he was actually considering replacing the mascot.

After a moment of annoyance, Jordan realized something wasn’t right!

It didn’t look like the people were trying to beat up the mascot; instead, they were... lining up for flyers?

And Rufus’s manner of handing out flyers... was slouching against the wall, utterly sloppy and disorganized.

The guys who took the flyers though seemed cheerful, coming up as if they wanted a photo together, Rufus reluctantly edged closer for the photo, appearing unenthusiastic.

Jordan shook his head, looked again, and indeed, he could tell from the mascot’s body language that he was disdainful!

Yet the guy in the photo and the onlookers all kept laughing endlessly.

Then a beautiful girl stepped forward to get a flyer, and Rufus’s attitude immediately changed; he handed her the flyer with both hands, then voluntarily put an arm around her for a photo... Geez, Jordan could actually sense a player’s vibe coming from a mascot!

When it was a little girl’s turn, Rufus immediately became serious, showed no disdain, nor did any superfluous actions, posing gently like a... plain-looking cat for a photo with the little girl.

One after another, people went up to take flyers and pose for photos. Jordan was baffled in the breeze... What was going on?

After spacing out for a moment, Jordan came back to his senses. He saw that Rufus was leaning against a wall that had a banner on it, he hadn’t noticed it before because his attention had been caught by the mascot.

Looking closely... He felt like cursing!

"The pitiful Meow Meow was driven out of the stadium by a ruthless boss, facing unemployment, can only take a part-time job handing out flyers, offers photo services, $1 per photo, pay if you wish, I can’t do anything if you don’t."

Seeing a cardboard box next to him filled with US dollar bills, and thinking back on the little girl who seemed about to take out money from her bag before Rufus stopped her...

Jordan muttered angrily, "Damn it, Bobby, when did I ever kick you out of the stadium? When did I say I wanted to fire you? Can’t you understand what paid leave means? Even if we’re changing mascots, don’t you just need a new costume? And you dare tarnish my reputation!"

At that moment, a wronged voice came from beside him: "Boss, that’s not me!"

Jordan jumped in surprise, turned his head... and looked down to see their team’s mascot performer, Bobby.

Bobby hadn’t initially realized that the man nearby wearing the #23 jersey and clearly overweight was the boss.

As Barkley had said, if Jordan didn’t have his basketball talent, he’d be no different from an average tall Black man by the roadside, and with that rotten attitude, he’d probably fare worse than most Black people.

Hearing the familiar scolding, Bobby recognized that his boss was right beside him.

Jordan looked at Bobby again, zoned out once more, then looked toward the entrance where Rufus was... while the performer, Bobby, was here...

He hadn’t noticed before, but now looked closely at Rufus taking photos with the girls; the girl was tall, at least 1.7 meters, yet she was a head shorter than Rufus, which was clearly abnormal, as Bobby was at most 1.8 meters.

Furthermore, you could see clear signs of alterations on the costume, obvious like scars; it was evident, but since Rufus inherently didn’t look like a nice cat, it didn’t seem odd.

Jordan thought of a person, but before asking Bobby, he pushed through the crowd, and after a while, he made his way in front of the mascot.

’Rufus’ impatiently waved at the man in front of him dressed in the #23 jersey and wearing a baseball cap, indicating that he should go and line up.

Jordan raised his chin and glared at ’Rufus’ with a menacing look, and growled, "Jack, what are you up to!"

Upon hearing this, Zhang Yang abruptly looked up, and through the headpiece, seeing Jordan’s menacing look... he decisively reached out, grabbed Jordan’s baseball cap, and then, putting a hand on Jordan’s shoulder, forcibly turned him around 180 degrees.
