Chapter 275: 139. Efforts to secretly work hard have been discovered!
May 26, clear, Lake Jeanie in Charlotte, a fishing boat rests on the water, several Bobcats players are leisurely fishing.
Felton sat for a while then started fidgeting and asked, "Jack, what made you suddenly decide to go fishing?"
Zhang Yang said, "Been busy for days, thought fishing would calm the mind... And isn’t fishing after being eliminated from the playoffs an NBA tradition?"
Felton turned and asked, "Emeka, is that an NBA tradition?"
Okafor replied, "I’m not sure, this was my first playoff, but I’ve heard Gerald and Jumaine also went deep-sea fishing, so it must be a tradition. Fishing truly calms the mind, there have been too many interviews and commercial shoots these days, I even thought about terminating contracts with endorsement brands. Now that I’m peacefully fishing, my mind has calmed down, and I stopped caring about all that."
Felton said, "Emeka, didn’t expect you to care so little about money!"
Okafor responded, "It’s not that, most of my endorsements were signed before Jack came, and in the past three months, the endorsements I signed were much more lucrative; I lost big."
Felton: "..."
After spending so much on renting boats, buying fishing rods, and scattering bait, they couldn’t catch a single fish. Felton didn’t see the point, but seeing his younger brother patiently sitting there, as well as Okafor and even Alan Anderson and Matt Carroll, he had to be patient too.
The afternoon passed, and Zhang Yang suddenly threw the fishing rod onto the boat with a snap: "Bad Feng Shui here, not a single fish."
Okafor agreed, "Exactly."
Felton pointed at a nearby boat: "Their baskets are overflowing, they’ve started releasing them."
Zhang Yang said, "Next time, we’ll fish there, that place has good Feng Shui."
Okafor added, "Right, I wanted to go there too, but they took the spot first."
Felton said, "Can’t you guys be less competitive? If we don’t know how to fish, we don’t know how to fish, no outsiders here, and after all, we were here first and picked this spot first."
Zhang Yang picked up the fishing rod: "Who says I can’t fish, today I must catch one to show you, boss!"
Felton quickly spoke, "No, no, no, what was it you said? Feng Shui, right, the Feng Shui here is bad! We don’t have time now, I’ve booked a restaurant, it’s almost time to eat."
Zhang Yang: "When did you book it, boss?"
Felton: "Right away, I’ll book as soon as we reach shore... "
Being the leader is tough, Felton felt exhausted!
He should have pretended not to hear when he saw his younger brother calling in the morning, what an oversight!
Though they didn’t catch any fish, getting a dinner from ’Big Fatty’ made Zhang Yang’s mood much brighter.
A week had passed since the season ended. Upon returning to Charlotte on the 19th, he had been busy with team news events, personal interviews, fan appreciation meetings, sponsors’ fan meet-ups in Charlotte, and attending business events... Zhang Yang was the busiest member of the team.
Finally finished, Zhang Yang invited a few teammates to experience the legendary ’post-elimination fishing.’
He wouldn’t admit that it was his fault; it was just bad Feng Shui.
Not rookies anymore...well, he and Felton weren’t rookies anymore, the ’Little Fatty Squad’ evolved from 4 to 5 members, as Matt Carroll had meshed well with Felton during the playoffs, quickly warming their relationship and being called up to join when Felton invited Alan Anderson out.
After dinner, Felton drove Zhang Yang home.
Zhang Yang curiously asked, "Aren’t you going to the nightclub with Alan and Matt tonight?"
Felton replied, "I’ve been too tired these days, I plan on resting properly, how about you?"
Zhang Yang said, "I’m also planning to rest for a few days, will buy a car soon, and once I turn 18 and get my official driver’s license, I’ll drive to the training gym."
After saying goodbye, Zhang Yang returned to his apartment, saw his little brother chasing a remote-controlled car on the floor, fell with a slap, didn’t cry, followed the car crawling... his mom on the side controlling the car and laughing.
He thought of a phrase—life without playing with kids would be meaningless.
He reflected on his own childhood... luckily, technology wasn’t advanced back then, none of these things were around.
After the season ended, his parents hadn’t returned to California. To be accurate, they came before the first round Game 3 and hadn’t left since.
The stores back there no longer needed his parents’ intervention to operate smoothly with professional managers in charge; their work focused now on Charlotte to capitalize on Zhang Yang’s local popularity.
Zhang Yang didn’t need to worry about this, nor about the money, plenty were keen to invest.
A quiet night passed, and the next morning, after having breakfast and walking his little brother, the driver arrived at 8:30, and he set off for the gym.
When getting off at the gym’s parking lot, Zhang Yang saw Felton also alighting.
The two exchanged glances, awkward.
Zhang Yang took the initiative: "Boss, didn’t you say you were going to rest well?"
A year had passed, and Felton’s skin had gotten thicker: "I said I wasn’t going to the nightclub last night to rest well, so I could start training today... what about you! Didn’t you say you would drive to train after turning 18?"
Zhang Yang responded, "I’m not 18 yet, obviously can’t drive, so I took a taxi... so boss, shall we train together?"
Felton agreed, "Yeah, let’s train together."
Both had wanted to secretly work hard to impress each other, only to bump into each other! But both were happy, as training is lonely, having a fellow traveler is always better.
Without games or training for over a week, their basketball skills hadn’t dulled; they even trained with more vigor after taking a break from basketball for a few days.
