NIGHTS OF HALLOW -
Chapter 158: His Lips on Her.
Chapter 158: His Lips on Her.
By the time Sthena and Perdita arrived inside the castle, her frantic beating heart had reduced leaving her only with a flushed face.
Sthena had landed them on the rooftop knowing that no one would be there by that time of the night. Their walk back inside the castle was a quiet one as neither Sthena nor Perdita spoke a word to each other.
Perdita on the other hand kept replaying what Sthena had told her. She was well aware of his intentions towards her, but being so possessive had suddenly caught her fragile heart unaware.
She had heard about the possessive nature of vampires towards something or someone they are attracted to. Wait, was that Sthena’s possessive nature in control?
The question in her head caused her heart to skip another beat which Sthena heard. He briefly stared at her and remarked,
"You would die of a heart attack if you continue troubling your little heart. Allow the both of you to rest."
"I—I am not troubling my heart. Ahem..." Perdita cleared her throat at the end of her words because she knew if she continued speaking, she was bound to spout rubbish.
Sthena didn’t say anything to her response. He only shook his head with a smirk on his face Perdita did not see.
Before long Perdita and Sthena arrived at the floor where the room of Perdita was situated. The wall lamps along the hallways burned brightly, and in turn, kept the castle warm from the freezing cold the falling snow brought with it.
Perdita stopped in her tracks, not knowing how to put her words in order, she began to remove Sthena’s coat to give it back to him, meanwhile, Sthena just stared at her.
Perdita unable to hold up to Sthena’s intense gaze, cleared her throat again and stretched her hand holding the cost toward him. She began, "Thank you so much for tonight and everything. And also, thank you for lending me your coat."
"Mhmm," Sthena hummed and took his coat from her, her scent immediately filling his nose. He was sure not to wash that coat lest he removed her smell. Sthena thought to himself as he watched Perdita bow at him before turning around to walk in the direction where her room was.
He stared at the coat in his hand and then back at the departing Perdita. Without a second thought, he followed her.
Perdita turned her head when she heard the light clicking of shoes behind her only to see that it was Sthena.
She stopped with a raised brow and asked, "Do you need anything?"
"Yes, I do."
Perdita’s brows rose this time in question of what Sthena needed. She cautiously asked, "What do you need? I—"
"You," Sthena without letting Perdita finish her words answered her question that caused another ripple in Perdita’s heart.
"That is a dangerous question to ask, Perdita," Sthena spoke his gaze on her dumbstruck self. He said, "Continue walking. Why did you stop?"
"Huh?" Perdita questioned no one in particular before she forced her legs to start moving. She muttered under her breath, "I thought you needed something that is why I stopped."
"And I replied that it was you I needed. Will you give yourself to me?" Sthena casually questioned even though the look on his face said another thing.
"I—I" Perdita stuttered to find the right words to say but couldn’t. Just then the door to her room came into view and she couldn’t be more glad to run inside and hide her flushed face in her behind her door.
Immediately they arrived in front of her room, Perdita quickly bowed her head and spoke in haste, "Have a good night’s rest, Sthena." Without waiting for a reply from him, she quickly went inside her room where she facepalmed herself several times behind the closed door with her heart beating widely in her chest again.
"Oh darn it, Perdita. " She mused.
A knock on her door made her stand straight in her room. She adjusted her dress and the hair she had scattered while facepalming herself. Who could that be? She wondered as she opened the door and her back straightened more than before when she saw Sthena was still there.
What was he still doing there??
"What—" Perdita began and abruptly stopped lest she made the same mistake of asking him what he needed again. Instead, she asked, "Did you forget anything?"
"Yes," Sthena replied, his red eyes under the glowing of the wall lamps more glacial than before.
"Huh?" Perdita uttered in surprise. She stepped out of her room and closed the door behind her. Her eyes stared back at Sthena and then around the place, wondering what he had forgotten.
The moment her eyes darted away from Sthena’s gaze, he closed the distance between them, startling her. This action of Sthena caused Perdita’s heart to shudder in its ribcage when she saw him so close to her. If she bulged out her stomach, it would definitely touch him.
She suddenly felt dizzy and seemed to stagger backward. Sthena’s hand was quick to wound around her slender waist, and in turn, it brought her closer to him than before.
Perdita felt her breathing quicken as she stared at Sthena with a slightly dazed gaze that seemed to darken the red-haired Vampire’s red eyes who held her tenderly in his arms.
Sthena’s gaze didn’t leave Perdita’s face for a second. He leaned in toward her and with a whisper he uttered in a low deep voice that seemed to disorient Perdita’s thoughts. He said,
"I forgot this,"
What was he going to do?! Perdita’s heart didn’t seize to skip beat after beat at the rollercoaster of emotions Sthena was making her experience yet she couldn’t ask him to stop. It was as though every part of her became alive and active in his presence.
All thoughts flew from her brain when she felt something wet yet warm and soft on her cheeks, just beside her lips.
Sthena kissed her!
The small kiss lingered for a moment where Sthena had his eyes closed, relishing the moment, unlike Perdita’s green eyes that were as though they would fall from their sockets at how wide they were.
Sthena stood straight once more as he stared at the gobsmacked expression on Perdita’s face. He didn’t release his hold on her as he used his other hand to gently cup her face, his gaze gentle on her. He asked,
"Did I startle you?"
Perdita blinked at his question before replying, "Ah, yes—no. I mean..." She stopped and shook her head to get her thoughts in order but still, she couldn’t form an intelligent sentence.
"I’m sorry if I did." Sthena apologized in sincerity. He added, "I tried to hold back, but I couldn’t. You are hard to resist, especially tonight."
Perdita’s eyes widened on hearing what he said. She opened her mouth to speak but he was quick to beat her to it.
"You don’t have to be so shocked. It wasn’t on your lips. Though I can’t guarantee what would happen next time." Sthena gave her a cheeky smile. He slightly flickered her forehead when her eyes widened more than before.
"Hope this will make you forget today’s stress so you can have a good night sleep?" He added and finally released her waist that fitted so well in his arms. He wished to keep his hand there all night but he didn’t want to overwhelm her. At least, not yet.
What good night sleep? Perdita questioned in her head. She was definitely going to have a long time thinking about his k—kiss.
Even to say it in her head was already too much. Ahh, she just wants to hide her face!
"You must be hungry. Go inside. A maid will bring a midnight snack for you." Sthena spoke and gently led Perdita inside the room he had opened earlier.
"I’ll see you tomorrow, green eyes." Sthena grinned and before leaving he said, "If you need more of what I did. You know the way to my room."
W—what?! Perdita internally shrieked. She went inside her room and quickly closed her door with her hands on her beating chest and face flushed like tomatoes.
