Chapter 381: Chapter 181: Extreme Cold Mountain Range_2
However, Li Yelai possessed the Virtual Realm Beast Language, which allowed him to scare off wild beasts simply by speaking. Thus, they did not encounter any trouble.
However, as they continued deeper, Li Yelai occasionally spotted signs of extraordinary creatures.
This meant that the two had entered the influence range of the Forbidden Zone.
"See those mountain ranges?" the Little Mad King pointed to the distant, continuous mountains, "That is the outer area of the Heavenly Kingdom, equivalent to the high walls of our Giant City."
The mountain range was conspicuous, not a natural part of this land, but rather a boundary that appeared after the formation of the Forbidden Zone.
Even further away, Li Yelai could see continuous snow-capped mountains.
"Are those snow mountains also part of the Heavenly Kingdom?" Li Yelai asked.
"Right. That area is rather special," explained the Little Mad King. "You should know, the Forbidden Zone is transformed from the Disaster Fog."
Li Yelai stepped on the accelerator, and the vehicle struggled to climb a steep slope. He said, "After the Disaster Fog devours enough intelligent beings, it opens up a new space, known as the Forbidden Zone."
Every Forbidden Zone is transformed from the Disaster Fog, and the appearance of each Forbidden Zone signifies it has devoured a considerable number of humans.
When the Disaster Fog devours enough humans, a certain power will form rules and order.
These rules silently transform the humans within, making them increasingly similar to the Forbidden Zone Creatures, and eventually, they become subordinates of the Forbidden Zone.
If, during that period, a strong individual among the devoured humans manages to kill the Catastrophe Fog Master and disrupt the order’s rules, the Forbidden Zone will not emerge.
Just as the once strongest humans fought their way out from the Disaster Fog, including the Old Mad King, who along with his comrades, emerged from the fog.
Similarly, the 71st Disaster Fog, if it continued to devour humans, would also open up a new space and transform into a new Forbidden Zone.
"Yes, many strong individuals were born among the humans who were devoured by the Heavenly Kingdom when it was still the Disaster Fog. Among them, even several Supreme powerhouses."
The Little Mad King explained, "And there, it became the final battleground for human strength."
"Sadly, they failed to kill the ruler who had become the Overlord. But their battles permanently changed some of the topography of the Forbidden Zone."
"The temperature in that valley is extremely low, known as the Extreme Cold Mountain Range!"
"Even the Spiritual Barrier can be frozen. It’s a true Forbidden Zone of life! Even the Forbidden Zone Creatures would not dare to approach the snow mountains. The Void Realm Creatures cannot die, but if they are frozen, they might as well never see the light of day again."
"I see," sighed Li Yelai with regret, "If they had succeeded, there would be no Heavenly Kingdom."
"No need for regrets, my comrade. The unfinished wishes of my teammates will eventually be fulfilled by us," the Little Mad King responded.
Li Yelai nodded and asked, "How far are we from the edge of the Forbidden Zone?"
"If we drive at top speed, it’s about two days away. But considering that there might be Forbidden Zone Creatures active in the outskirts, we need to be careful and not rush in," the Little Mad King replied.
When the sky darkened, Li Yelai, who had been driving all day, parked the vehicle in an abandoned village.
In the wilderness, one could drive through the night without fear of flipping the vehicle. But here, they had to proceed slowly. The headlights at night were too conspicuous, easily drawing the attention of some extraordinary creatures.
The abandoned town where Li Yelai stopped, although not as vast as the cities they had previously encountered, at least provided them with a place to stay.
After stopping the vehicle, Li Yelai took a barrel of gasoline from the trunk and refueled the car.
The Little Mad King disappeared again, which no longer seemed strange to Li Yelai.
To avoid revealing any signs of their presence, Li Yelai did not light a fire, instead, he heated the food inside the vehicle.
Soon, a slender figure emerged from the shadows.
It turned out to be the Little Mad King, who had vanished before. She spoke, "I’ve checked the surroundings; there aren’t any extraordinary creatures to worry about. We are still quite a distance from the edge of the Forbidden Zone, so it’s relatively safe."
"That makes things a bit easier," said Li Yelai.
"Yes, but keep your weapon close," the Little Mad King reminded him, "Some extraordinary creatures specialize in night attacks."
After eating some food, the Little Mad King took a sleeping bag and blanket out of the car and handed them to Li Yelai, saying, "Let’s take turns keeping watch. You sleep first; I’ll stand guard."
"Alright," Li Yelai accepted without refusing. He had fought a bloody battle with a monster today and had been driving for over ten hours.
Although he was physically strong as a Spiritual Ability User, he was also somewhat mentally exhausted.
After a quick wash, he found a corner in the abandoned house and crawled into the sleeping bag.
Seeing how quickly Li Yelai had adapted, the Little Mad King was a bit taken aback.
"It’s really quite strange," she whispered. In the past, she had never had a regular teammate to work with.
In dangerous areas, she would often hide in some dark corner to rest with closed eyes, instantly awakened by any slight rustling of grass or leaves.
Even when working with colleagues and having temporary teammates, they would never let her keep watch at night.
The curse of distrust prevented temporary teammates from entrusting their safety to her. Even in battle, temporary teammates would subconsciously be wary of her, always afraid she might backstab them.
This was especially painful for her when she first became a Spiritual Ability User, having thought that becoming one would win her comrades’ trust. But ultimately, she had trusted wrongly...
During that period, she wanted to make a change, to fight against the curse’s effects and inspire people to trust her.
She worked hard to rise through the ranks, tackling each formidable enemy single-handedly, achieving one dazzling victory after another.
Her status gradually ascended—Level 2 Processor, Level 3 Handler, Night Patrol, Elite Night Patrol.
Yet even after becoming a Captain Level powerhouse, the general concern of the people remained unchanged.
She also became one of only two official Captain Level powerhouses without their own team members or foundation—the other, naturally, was the Doll.
After a prolonged period of pain came numbing endlessness.
But just when she had become completely numb, fate finally brought her a teammate she could mutually trust.
This left the Little Mad King somewhat pleasantly surprised, but also a bit helpless. If only they had appeared earlier.
The Doll really was lucky, thought the Little Mad King.
The only dissatisfaction was the lack of strength. If Li Yelai were also a Captain Level powerhouse, they could freely enter the Forbidden Zone and hunt down those traitors. Perhaps even killing an Overlord would be possible.
"Little Mad King, please don’t look at me with those ’disappointed in unmet potential’ eyes," Li Yelai complained from within his sleeping bag while yawning, "Your staring won’t help me be alert on the Fifth Sense tomorrow, let alone the Sixth Sense during dinner."
The Little Mad King’s mouth twitched in response, saying, "Well, good night then, teammate."
"Mm, good night," Li Yelai quickly fell asleep.
The Little Mad King, however, lit a stick of incense in the room, the delicate smoke swirling upward, dispersing their scents and concealing their presence.
...
But Li Yelai saw strange visions in his sleep, a vague voice seemed to be calling him, but it was definitely not Mr. Shadow—he wasn’t nearly so polite!
In the dreamscape, amidst the fog, a blood-red figure emerged. Judging by the physique, it seemed to be a robust male, carrying a bizarrely large axe on his back.
At the same time, the vague voice emanated from the fog,
"Where... are you? To please... my lord... Blood Sacrifice the Blood God."
Blood God? My lord? What the fuck!
Li Yelai was startled—Was this the Blood God’s man?
Chased even into his dreams? Are they that persistent?
Li Yelai wouldn’t forget that they wanted to twist him into a Divine Chosen, but he hadn’t expected the Blood God to still be sending people after him. And now, they were close?
Li Yelai pondered for a moment, unsure how to respond.
He planned to let the officials arrange for eight hundred Axe Men after returning to the Giant City, and then lure him out. Should he say something first?
However, it wasn’t long before Li Yelai was awakened from the dreamscape.
The Little Mad King shook him slightly, breaking his reverie.
"Is it my shift?" Li Yelai sat up, slapping his face to wake himself up.
The Little Mad King shook her head, "No, there’s a situation..."
...
Elsewhere, within the ruins scattered across the wilderness, a mysterious team had a muscular man open his eyes, "He did not respond to me... but I faintly feel he is near the Heavenly Kingdom."
"Is he a creature of the Forbidden Zone? Not a human from No.3 Border City?"
"Whoever it is, let’s go! The one specially graced by our lord’s oracle, we must take him with us!"
