Chapter 217: Chapter 102: One Person’s Reinforcements_2
Soon, the room resounded with suppressed yet intensely painful cries. A girl had lost her last kin...
"You liar!" she sobbed, clutching a photo album to her chest as if holding onto her last treasure and warmth.
The surging spiritual energy flowed from the girl, heralding the fact of her Awakening.
Inside Shelter #25, Starfire and members of Shadow Stream couldn’t believe it.
They refused to believe that their friend Li Yelai had actually... But in the end, they could only sigh in sorrow.
At the East City Branch, Yang Chen slammed his fist onto the table. The terrifying force even transferred through the air to the ground, leaving a frightening fist imprint on the floor.
After a long while, Yang Chen let out a deep voice, "I don’t believe it... Continue the search and rescue!"
Meanwhile, in Shelter #170, the civilians who had successfully made it to the refuge wept with joy. The Processors, however, had bitter smiles on their faces.
This evacuation resulted in the death or disappearance of nine Spiritual Ability Users, thirty-eight Iron Guards, one hundred and eighty-three soldiers, and over five hundred civilians.
"The cost... too great," sighed a Spiritual Ability User.
"Were it not for the Night General, our price would have been even greater!" another Spiritual Ability User murmured in response, "I heard... the Night General..."
Another Spiritual Ability User quickly stopped him from speaking further.
And in the defensive works of the shelter, Cheese silently gazed into the night sky.
Wrapped in a blanket, for some reason, she suddenly hugged the blanket tightly and buried her face in it.
In a dangerous street elsewhere, massive swarms of insects were violently squashed, like overripe persimmons falling to the ground.
Several Hunting Insects emerged from the shadows, pouncing towards the surrounded Doll Bear.
But in the next instant, they were captured by a terrifying pressure and slammed to the ground, turning into mush.
The Doll Bear, silent, was filled with rage and madness, savagely slaughtering all the insect swarms in sight.
In the end, the entire insect swarm was annihilated, and only the sobs of the girl inside the Doll Bear echoed through the streets.
...
They did not know that at that moment, in a base on the other side of the world,
The Book Holder was engulfed in immense terror as the destined path before him was forcibly twisted.
According to the Book of Destiny, the Disaster Fog #71 was going to claim nearly two million lives from the Giant City military and civilians, and many mid- to low-level Spiritual Ability Users from the major branches would perish, with even Captain Level powerhouses potentially falling.
But now, with Mountain Dragon’s slip, the original path of fate was torn beyond recognition.
Out of the thirty-seven exceptionally talented Spiritual Ability Users supposed to emerge, many names disappeared, and unfamiliar ones surfaced.
The path of fate was violently altered!
Those meant to die, lived, while those destined to rise as Spiritual Ability Users were overshadowed.
"Who could it be?" the Book Holder could hardly believe it, "Could it be... some supreme being has interfered with fate?"
...
Elsewhere, within a shattered skyscraper, the injured Mountain King Avatar ’vomited’ Li Yelai out of its mouth.
Afterward, the Mountain King Avatar completely dissipated, having sustained substantial damage and ultimately perishing.
Li Yelai felt pain all over his body.
Most of his Abyss Dragon Scales had fallen off, and the Spiritual Barrier was pathetically weak.
Somehow, he had survived. When Mountain Dragon fell into the deep pit, he was thrown clear.
Then he encountered a tornado and, along with a massive swarm of insects, was swept up and carried away.
It wasn’t until the tornado shifted that he was tossed out.
Thanks to the damage resistance of the Mountain King Avatar, otherwise Li Yelai feared he would have been smashed to death.
Li Yelai opened his eyes after a while, his vision returning.
He got up slowly, leaning on the damaged long spear, and looked around.
"It seems I’ve survived after all," Li Yelai whispered to himself.
This appeared to be an office building, now ruined and desolate, with shattered glass and collapsed floors.
Li Yelai lowered his voice and scanned his surroundings, soon spotting a fallen water cooler. He approached, hoisted the water jug on top, and poured it over himself.
Water cascaded down, washing away the filth and blood upon Li Yelai.
Taking the opportunity, Li Yelai checked his body for injuries. Fortunately, having hidden within the Mountain King Avatar’s body, he had not suffered any serious damage. There were numerous minor wounds, but they had mostly healed—a benefit of his robust physique.
His spiritual energy, however, was nearly depleted, and his specialized combat uniform was torn and ragged, his backpack lost.
The signal flares inside the backpack were naturally gone too.
This rendered Li Yelai unable to send out a distress signal.
Well, even if he did fire a signal flare now, it might just lead the Insect Swarm to him first.
"Fortunately, no Insect Swarm found me while I was unconscious. Has the time of Calamity passed?" Li Yelai pondered internally as he tore off his tattered combat uniform.
He then began to search the building.
Soon, he found some snacks and cakes in a pantry.
After gobbling down the food, Li Yelai found a black coat that fit reasonably well in one of the rooms.
Afterward, he didn’t rashly leave the high-rise but hunkered down in a corner to slowly recover his strength and spiritual energy.
The outside world was too dangerous. If he encountered an Insect Swarm in his current condition, it would spell real trouble.
While resting, Li Yelai examined his equipment.
The Black Umbrella was ruined, used by Li Yelai as a weapon and thrown away in battle.
The Red Dragon Spear, now a Red Dragon Spear with its ’spear ear’ broken and two cracks on its shaft.
