Chapter 207: Chapter 98: Arrives Like Lightning!

Disaster Fog 71 would devour half of the Giant City in less than twenty minutes, swallowing more than 2 million humans.

This was an irreversible fact.

Even on some lower-lying streets, a thin mist had already appeared.

Some people who hadn’t evacuated in time had already disappeared into the mist.

If Ben Lei hadn’t led his team underground for investigation and obtained intelligence beforehand, many more would have been swallowed by the Disaster Fog in their sleep, unknowingly exposed to the deadly threat of the Slaughter Insect Swarm!

It was due to Ben Lei’s desperate warnings that the officials had responded, gaining valuable extra minutes.

All City Defense Soldiers, militia, and Border Iron Guards stationed in the Giant City were mobilized.

They convened the public as quickly as possible; those living near the edge of the Disaster Fog’s reach were quickly evacuated.

Those too far from the edge, unable to evacuate, were gathered and taken to the nearest shelter.

Even if swallowed by the Disaster Fog, humans still had a chance to resist.

To prevent the fog from spreading or escaping, humans would use the Mixed Element Banner to trap it.

And send distress signals to the other three Giant Cities, assembling legions to combat the Calamity!

During this time, the humans swallowed by the Disaster Fog would strive to survive within it!

Yes, to survive!

The Disaster Fog would be trapped, and if the people inside could withstand the attacks of the Slaughter Insect Swarm until reinforcements from the other Giant Cities arrived, they could survive this calamity.

Upon receiving the news, Li Yelai immediately opened the communicator’s map and located the nearest shelter.

There were many underground shelters in Border City, some being underground parking garages and others subway platforms.

Their common feature was that they were easy to defend but hard to attack.

After all, Border City’s mission was to face calamities.

Giant City had prepared response plans since its establishment; facing the threat of Disaster Fog 71, it was also ready to use the shelters.

Thus, when the alarm sounded, many shelters began efficiently accepting refugees.

And many more residents, with the help of the military or Spiritual Ability Users, rushed to the shelters, hoping to reach them before the Disaster Fog spread, as this would save more lives.

Li Yelai’s current mission was to head to the nearest shelter and, with his Third Awakening Spiritual Ability User’s combat power, strengthen its defenses.

He would fend off the danger as much as possible until human reinforcements arrived!

Suppressing the agitation in his heart, Li Yelai immediately headed to the shelter and sent a "Stay safe" blessing to Yang Chen, Doll, and Cheese while mid-air.

He then received some bad news—his sister, Yun Yan, hadn’t been able to leave the East District yet!

But fortunately, she was with the Spirit Extinguisher, surrounded by ample protective power.

This slightly eased Li Yelai’s mind.

However, just as Li Yelai used Aerial Stepping to dash about a kilometer away, he saw a considerable group on the road.

It seemed to be a convoy heading to a shelter, consisting of men and women, young and old, roughly over two hundred people, protected by about a dozen City Defense Soldiers moving quickly along the road.

There weren’t many children in the group since Giant City prioritized evacuating women, children, and students first.

As Li Yelai approached using Aerial Stepping and quickly reached the front of the group.

Leading the group were three fully armed City Defense Soldiers, who vigilantly scanned their surroundings and moved swiftly, their eyes filled with tension and caution.

As they saw Li Yelai descend from the sky suddenly, the leading trio immediately aimed their guns,

but upon recognizing the special combat uniform Li Yelai wore, their faces relaxed significantly, even showing some surprise.

"Processor?" one of the thirty-something square-faced soldiers quickly asked.

"East City Branch, first team Processor, Night General." Li Yelai, carrying his Big Black Umbrella, approached and quickly reported his identity then added, "I’m here to help escort!"

"That’s a big help!" The square-faced soldier smiled and hastily gave a military salute, saying, "I am Lieutenant Mao Ye of the City Defense Army."

With the Processor’s escort, the security of the group would be greatly enhanced.

From his conversation with Lieutenant Mao Ye, Li Yelai learned that this group was residents from a nearby community.

Although the official response was quick, ordinary residents couldn’t gather instantly. Once they finally assembled, they didn’t have much time left.

And the nearest shelter was still about three kilometers away.

Normally, a three-kilometer distance could be quickly covered by stepping on the gas pedal, but due to the emergency evacuation, the roads were clogged with numerous unmanned vehicles.

Traffic was essentially blocked, so the group had to walk.

Looking at the time, they would have to advance amidst the Disaster Fog.

Under such circumstances, Li Yelai’s arrival was undoubtedly a strong boost.

The group didn’t linger but continued moving quickly toward the shelter.

Yet Li Yelai’s heart was racing because, only a few minutes after accelerating their pace, he saw a thin mist forming on the streets far ahead.

Disaster Fog!

That was the Disaster Fog!

"We couldn’t make it after all," Mao Ye remarked, looking at the approaching mist with a solemn expression.

Behind him, the crowd was absolutely terrified.

Disaster Fog—the same fog that had once devoured seventy percent of the world’s population!

Hearing about such calamity was one thing, witnessing it was another entirely.
