Chapter 170: Chapter 79: Now, I Am Cavalry
Giant City was simply too vast, and the perception range of the Companion Beetle was limited to a mere hundred-meter diameter.
Li Yelai drove around the South City Old District in a car until late at night, but the Companion Beetle he held hadn’t made a peep.
"Still, many areas are out of reach, can you use your ’You Must Meet Strong Enemies’ to lure them out?" Yin Fire asked, frowning.
"It’s difficult, we’re not even sure of his range. Who knows if it’ll draw out enemies or some other Calamity," replied Li Yelai, shaking his head.
Once Li Yelai used the curse, it would trigger various misfortunes.
’You Must Meet Strong Enemies’ was just one of them. If the enemy wasn’t within range, they couldn’t just conjure up a powerful adversary for Li Yelai.
By then, if the enemy doesn’t get lured out, they might end up attracting other ill-fated events first, causing trouble for others, which wouldn’t be good.
Li Yelai responded, "The Old City District is vast, but given time, we will patrol it all. But if that Spirit Extinguisher is still alive, I’m afraid she won’t last that long."
"In that case, we can only pray," mused Yin Fire, then reminded, "Don’t forget the subway lines and the city loop buses, they cover quite a few areas too."
Li Yelai nodded, "Also, I need a colleague arranged to give me a ride."
After a moment’s thought, Yin Fire nodded and said, "I remember Starfire from our team gets along well with you. He had his Second Awakening a few days ago, let him drive you. Besides, I will dispatch a group of Processors to secretly follow you. Once you spot the enemy, put on the Copper Face. Never expose your undercover identity."
Li Yelai looked at his Copper Face; it was a disguise tool he obtained upon entering the Ark.
It was finely crafted, the mask overall a Dark Gold hue, engraved with intricate patterns.
Once he put on the mask, only a pair of eyes were visible. He reckoned even if he used Face, the enemy wouldn’t detect it.
"Alright!"
Afterward, Yin Fire escorted Li Yelai back to the staff apartments.
Early the next morning, Li Yelai made a trip to Cheese’s place.
He traded for it upon the Ark, healing medication that came from the Forbidden Zone.
The officials had gifted Li Yelai with about two hundred milliliters of it.
According to the preliminary research from the officials, this medication appeared to have a highly effective healing impact on injuries for those below the Five Senses True Martial Physique.
Twenty milliliters of the medication could rapidly heal flesh wounds, while bone injuries would take a bit longer.
Cheese had a fractured arm, which was an ideal case for treatment.
However, Li Yelai was specifically reminded by the officials.
Even if they were good friends and colleagues, he must not reveal his undercover identity.
Thus, Li Yelai never mentioned the source of the medication.
Instead, he poured twenty milliliters of it into her coffee right in front of Cheese.
To this, Cheese, who was sitting across from him, clad in light pajamas with slightly messy hair, widened her eyes and said, "Hey, hey, hey, you’re drugging me right in my face?"
She was stunned, thinking Li Yelai was being careless!
At the very least, should he not wait until she turned around or briefly left before drugging her?
Cheese picked up the cup to smell it, her eyes gleaming with a teasing smile, "Is this the legendary ’I love a log’? You’ve got guts, kid."
"I knew you wouldn’t say anything serious!" Li Yelai spread his hands, "This is good stuff, it should be able to heal your injury... but I can’t say any more."
"I know, it’s a secret mission," Cheese finished her coffee in one gulp, her decisiveness taking Li Yelai aback.
"You just drank it like that?" Li Yelai was somewhat startled.
As a single woman living alone with an injured arm, Cheese should have been more cautious.
But she didn’t ask further and simply drank the coffee.
"What else?" Cheese asked, wiping her mouth.
"Aren’t you afraid of running into bad people?"
"Do you really think I would carelessly drink water that strangers pour for me?" Cheese chuckled lightly.
She knew what Li Yelai was worried about.
But she trusted Li Yelai very much and wasn’t concerned that he would harm her in any way.
Then Cheese looked at her right arm with a frown.
The previously painful arm, after feeling a tingling sensation, no longer hurt at all.
She unwrapped the cast in surprise.
Afterward, she punched swiftly without any discomfort.
Clearly, the injury was fully healed.
"This medicine is precious, I should save it for myself," Cheese said seriously, after experiencing the medication’s powerful restorative capability, "My injury was almost healed; you shouldn’t have wasted it on me."
"It’s meant to be used, there’s no such thing as a waste," Li Yelai replied.
"It’s different, such an efficient medication could save your life in a fight," Cheese sighed, looking at Li Yelai with complex eyes.
She vaguely guessed that Li Yelai was involved in some highly confidential mission, otherwise, he wouldn’t be handing out such medication.
But such secret missions were often extremely dangerous.
"Be careful, and be sure to let me know if you need anything," Cheese said softly.
Li Yelai silently nodded, then turned and left.
...
A few minutes later, Li Yelai, carrying Big Black Umbrella, got into the SUV driven by Starfire and quickly headed toward the South City Old District.
Starfire was in good spirits, having successfully advanced to the Second Awakening a few days ago.
He was the third rookie to achieve Second Awakening after Li Yelai and Heavy Knight.
And this was his first mission since his Second Awakening.
To patrol the South City Old District with Night General and cooperate with Li Yelai’s actions.
This seemed odd to Starfire, as South City... that was within the jurisdiction of the South City Branch. Why would they have someone from the East City Branch conduct patrols?
