Chapter 836: Chapter 777 biu (Vote for Monthly Ticket)

The shooting range of the Zhengguang Bureau was also underground, with entry through Gates A and B, separate management for firearms and ammunition, dedicated supervision, and strict control.

Jiang Yuan asked Liu Cheng to take himself and Mu Zhiyang to get three Type 92s and shoot 30 rounds each to get a feel for it.

The Level 3 pistols were so accurate that hitting the target at 25 meters was like pointing and shooting. Jiang Yuan could easily hit the bullseye and precisely hit any specific scoring ring he wanted.

From Jiang Yuan’s experience, maybe even a Level 2 could reach the marksmanship of a stationary target shooter.

But Level 3 pistol shooting also included many more practical combat details. For instance, one-handed shooting when injured, emergency handling of gun malfunctions, and most importantly, the complex tactical system of CQB (Close Quarters Battle).

CQB is often seen in movies; it’s the tactical approach used by a team of SWAT or military personnel when entering a building. Since it’s a system, it involves a lot of branches and complexities, including tactics, techniques, procedures, observations, judgments, decisions, and actions at various team and command levels...

Just speaking technically, Jiang Yuan felt it was a bit of a waste. There’s really no need for it.

Especially after returning to Ningtai County, where could he find an armed suspect?

Qinghe City offered more hope, after all, there had been the drug trafficking network brought down by the Yuan Family. Even though Jianyuan Pharmaceutical had been eradicated, who knows how many slipped through the net. It would be natural for city security to deteriorate after the collapse of the biggest company in the city...

It seemed Beijing had the most universal application, with all sorts of talented individuals and advanced techniques that seemed to have a place to shine. Just like CQB, it would be right on the mark when dealing with cult members hidden in air-raid shelters...

"Let’s go, return the guns." Jiang Yuan’s 30 rounds were long spent, and after some idle thoughts, seeing that Mu Zhiyang was also done, he prepared to head back.

Mu Zhiyang thought Jiang Yuan was unhappy and, pointing to his seemingly messy shot group, encouraged him, "You did extremely well. For a beginner, hitting the target at 25 meters is considered gifted. You even hit a bullseye."

"Is that considered good?" Jiang Yuan was surprised. He saw Mu Zhiyang hit the 9 and 10 rings and, setting his own boundary at the 7 ring, simply shot randomly without realizing that Mu Zhiyang’s standards were exaggeratedly high.

Liu Cheng nodded from the side, "Indeed, that’s very good. Police nowadays don’t practice shooting enough, too many cases to handle, no time for practice. Many only get to fire 10 rounds a year. How many times have you shot before, Jiang Yuan?"

"Just a few times," Jiang Yuan vaguely said.

"Lucky you, a natural talent," Liu Cheng clicked his tongue twice, then asked, "Do you want to shoot more? I can go get more ammunition."

"Can we get more? Then let’s shoot a few more rounds," Jiang Yuan was quite eager, as firing a gun felt quite good, at least before shooting too much.

Liu Cheng nodded, "It might be a hassle for others, but if Captain Jiang wants to shoot more rounds, what can they say? Let them go dig graves on the mountain!"

The last sentence was the popular saying of the Zhengguang Bureau at the time, truly reflecting the fear of the Zhengguang officers.

biubiubiu...

Jiang Yuan, wearing his ear protection, fired another 150 rounds before stopping as his arm started feeling slightly sore, but it wasn’t very uncomfortable.

Liu Cheng was bustling about, and in the end, he even helped return the guns.

Upon leaving, he saw Jiang Yuan deep in thought and Liu Cheng smiled again, "If you enjoy it, Captain Jiang, I’ll find you some coaches later to practice properly."

"Coaches? What kind of coaches?" Jiang Yuan was a bit curious.

"Professional shooters, special forces, SWAT, snipers – whatever you need, we’ve got," Liu Cheng smiled. "We don’t have many in the police force who practice shooting, but some of them practiced so hard they almost got sick before joining the police."

Jiang Yuan realized at that moment, given the complexity of Beijing’s system, it was indeed true that they had whatever was needed.

As for himself, becoming a forensic doctor was only possible because he passed the exams at the county bureau.

Thinking this, Jiang Yuan smiled and shook his head, "I was considering whether to take on a gun-related case, but I’m hesitant..."

Mu Zhiyang shivered, "Brother Jiang, there’s no need for that. From what we’ve been through here in Beijing, gun-related cases involve people who will actually shoot."

"I’ve considered that too," Jiang Yuan nodded solemnly.

He had traveled through several provinces and encountered gun cases. For instance, the dangerous Wu Long Mountain wild man case, where the suspect, as an old hunter, was indeed skilled, but he only had a pistol.

In Beijing, however, even middle school students had Type 56 rifles. Although their sources were somewhat coincidental, even someone like Mu Zhiyang could be severely injured.

The recent encounter with a female spy was even more frightening; she shot three men with three shots each, and those three men were among the best criminal policemen. If not for the full gear and numerical advantage, it might have been a complete wipeout.

"Alright. It’s good to rest," Jiang Yuan quickly made his decision.

Mu Zhiyang and Liu Cheng both breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly pulled Jiang Yuan away.

Back at the office, while Liu Cheng worked on paperwork and couldn’t help but feel uneasy, he paused to call Tao Lu and after explaining the situation, said, "I feel like Captain Jiang might be a bit of a workaholic. As he rests, might he seek out another gun case?"

"That’s indeed a possibility," Tao Lu thought for a moment on the other end of the line, "In fact, involving him in solving a gun case isn’t a bad thing; not all gun cases are dangerous. What we really need to worry about is him sneaking off to work on cases by himself or just bringing one or two people with him..."

"Like Sherlock Holmes?"

"Something like that. The main thing is, Jiang Yuan is really like a detective genius. A tiny detail in the case files, and he might find a clue..."

"Should I go check on Captain Jiang?" Liu Cheng pondered, "I actually have plenty of cases here, some are minor, and I’ve been reluctant to bother Captain Jiang with them."

"Alright, you go ahead," Tao Lu agreed.

Liu Cheng thought for a moment and quickly delegated some of his work before hurrying out the door.

Jiang Yuan was not in the office, so Liu Cheng went to Jiang Yuan’s house in Beijing.

When he arrived at the entrance of the residential complex, he saw a somewhat familiar figure emerging from an old Santana.

"Old Cui? What brings you here?" Liu Cheng frowned.

"Whatever you’re here for, I’m here for the same reason," Cui Qishan lifted his chin and said, "Jiang Yuan isn’t someone’s personal property, you know."

"That little shit you ran into a couple of days ago, did you take care of it?" Liu Cheng challenged directly.

"It’s taken care of." Cui Qishan had been ridiculed so much lately that he wasn’t so easily thrown off balance anymore.

Seeing this, Liu Cheng "hmphed" and said, "I didn’t intend to compete, but if you insist on coming to check, then I won’t bother. There’s so much to do back at the station..."

"Enough with that, let’s be real, one Jiang Yuan is enough for both our squads to use. Are you able to spare a few men right now?"

Liu Cheng hesitated briefly before responding, "We can always afford to spare four or five people, and if needed, we can spare a few more."

"I have about the same. Let’s go upstairs and take a look." Cui Qishan took the lead.

They knocked on Jiang Yuan’s door, and it was opened by Jiang Fuzhen.

"Uncle Jiang, where’s Jiang Yuan?" Cui Qishan felt like a child visiting a neighbor’s house.

Jiang Fuzhen smiled warmly and said, "He went out to fetch something, in quite a hurry. Didn’t he go with you guys on a case?"

Cui Qishan tightened his expression, "Then I’ll check around. Did he mention where he was going?"

"He didn’t say," Jiang Fuzhen replied nonchalantly.

After Cui Qishan asked a few more questions, until Jiang Fuzhen began to look puzzled, he calmly took his leave.

Once Jiang Fuzhen closed the door behind them and they entered the elevator, Cui Qishan said to Liu Cheng, "This isn’t right, where could Jiang Yuan go by himself?"

"I’ll call Mu Zhiyang," Liu Cheng grew anxious as well.

"I’ll call Wang Chuanxing."

The two of them made their calls in perfect coordination, asking only about Jiang Yuan’s whereabouts and avoiding any superfluous conversation.

Having finished their calls, Liu Cheng and Cui Qishan exchanged glances.

"This doesn’t look good. Jiang Yuan has never acted alone like this before," Liu Cheng, who had worked with Jiang Yuan many times, felt increasingly worried the more he thought about it.

Cui Qishan said, "When you think about it, Jiang Yuan has made quite a few enemies. Although the recent cases have been wrapped up neatly, who’s to say there aren’t some oversights outside?"

"There are always oversights," Liu Cheng didn’t delve into details and instead suggested, "Should we notify Tao? Maybe he just went out for a walk, and we’re overreacting..."

"Maybe? Maybe he went to Garbage Mountain, fell on a blade, and ended up cutting himself into three pieces?" Cui Qishan forcefully said, "I’ve seen too many cases like that, where bodies were found in just such ways!"

"You’re something else..." Liu Cheng couldn’t refute, muttering as they walked, "Your way of putting it is just too distressing..."

"Trust me, Captain Jiang is in the most dangerous situation possible," Cui Qishan said earnestly. "Think about it, those religious fanatics, could there be some quietly hiding at home? Ones who aren’t too deeply involved but are given to extremes? And the case with Qi Changye, behind him are the spy agencies..."

"What are you guys doing here, chatting away?" Jiang Yuan appeared suddenly by the flowerbed in the middle of the complex, looking puzzled at Liu Cheng and Cui Qishan just appearing.

The two men stared at Jiang Yuan as if they were seeing a ghost.

"Is something the matter?" Jiang Yuan stood up.

Woof, woof, woof.

Five stray dogs simultaneously lifted their heads, baring their teeth at Cui Qishan and Liu Cheng, their eyes ceaselessly roaming between their food bowls, the two men, and Jiang Yuan.

"What are you doing here?" Cui Qishan asked, tensely gripping his phone.

"Feeding the dogs? I made some dog food to share with the strays downstairs," Jiang Yuan said as he picked up a stainless steel bowl, "I even had a bit myself. Want to try?"

Compelled almost against his will, Cui Qishan used disposable chopsticks to take a piece of what seemed to be fried rice and put it in his mouth, his expression gradually changing.

To Liu Cheng, the look on Cui Qishan’s face went from indifference to surprise, to shock, to disbelief, followed by irrepressible enthusiasm.

"What is this?" Cui Qishan pointed at the stainless steel bowl with his chopsticks, as though accusing a criminal.

"Dog food," replied Jiang Yuan.

"Then being a dog is just too damn good." Cui Qishan grabbed the stainless steel bowl and gobbled down a couple of mouthfuls.
