Chapter 821: Chapter 762 Bullet Marks
"Captain Jiang, why don’t you stay and look at the tapes instead of coming with us?"
Wu Junhao watched as Jiang Yuan put on his anti-stab vest, feeling uneasy.
This case was somewhat complex, and now they had to go to the scene for an arrest—who knew what situations they might encounter.
Despite his assault team being well-trained, no amount of preparation could cover every potential real-life situation. Moreover, they were all trained in Ningtai County and were unfamiliar with Beijing, relying on local criminal police for support.
Jiang Yuan carefully checked his equipment and said, "This case, I want to see it firsthand..."
"There’s nothing at the scene worth seeing. It’s unnecessary," Wu Junhao continued to persuade.
"What’s there to fear about checking it out? If there’s a special situation, shouldn’t I be even more present?" Jiang Yuan argued.
Wu Junhao was briefly taken aback, then said, "If there’s a special situation, I’ll video call you immediately. If things go south to the point where I can’t even video call, then you definitely shouldn’t be there."
"Is video really as good as seeing it with your own eyes? Besides, what I need to see and what you might record could be very different." Jiang Yuan insisting on being on the front lines greatly increased the Bald Strike Team’s respect for him.
A plainclothes liaison officer, hearing this, said, "It’s good for Captain Jiang to go with us. If there are any issues, we can handle them on site."
Qi Changye hadn’t come, but his colleagues had.
In fact, this case had already garnered a lot of attention and might soon progress to a point where it wouldn’t require Beijing Bureau’s involvement.
Seeing this, Wu Junhao could only say to Mu Zhiyang, "Then stick with Captain Jiang and call out when you need manpower."
He didn’t assign more people to Jiang Yuan. Besides, Mu Zhiyang already carried a 92 pistol on his waist.
Fully armed, Mu Zhiyang cradled a helmet in his left arm and nodded, then said to Jiang Yuan, "Captain Jiang, let’s just stay behind them. This case is different; these guys even kill dogs."
"I understand." While Jiang Yuan was keen to lead by example, he was not reckless.
Being a police officer, he wasn’t afraid of being on the front lines.
Danger is relative; police work is dangerous, but not quite like a real battlefield. If Jiang Yuan weren’t of significantly increased worth but merely a regular county forensic doctor, he would still step up when necessary, though in the past Ningtai County didn’t even have anti-stab vests.
Wu Junhao and the others tried hard to stop him, mainly because of Huang Qiangmin’s instructing.
A team wearing full gear filed out and got into their vehicles.
Jiang Yuan and Mu Zhiyang shared a BMW X3, borrowed from Qi Changye’s large team through Wu Junhao.
Qi Changye’s deputy, Fang Peimao, also got in the car, turning it into a command vehicle.
His other colleagues followed with Wu Junhao or drove separately.
A total of ten vehicles slowly left the garage and then dispersed in three directions.
Ten vehicles might sound like many, but both Wu Junhao and Fang Peimao felt it still wasn’t enough.
Their task that night was daunting. It wasn’t just about catching an individual but extracting an entire network.
But pursuing a network required following each clue meticulously, and naturally, they worried that chasing might tip off other suspects, causing them to flee and thus breaking the chain.
Under normal circumstances, Fang Peimao or Qi Changye would consider using special situations or undercover agents to carefully ascertain the state of affairs before acting.
However, this case was quite special. On one hand, the case had already been closed, and reopening it indicated a bit of vulnerability. Because of this, their side wanted to wrap it up swiftly, not prolong the matter.
On the other hand, one reason Qi Changye had reopened the case was due to a special situation intertwined with the case. Reusing special measures involved tremendous decisional weight.
Moreover, there was some blind trust in Jiang Yuan—those who had closely followed his previous cases harbored some unrealistic expectations of him.
If they could leverage Jiang Yuan’s capabilities to directly solve the case, Qi Changye’s colleagues would prefer not to use special situations or other extraordinary methods.
They weren’t just dealing with this one case, like ordinary police officers, everyone’s desk was also piled up with cases, and which case that got prioritized wasn’t important?
"Almost there. All units prepare."
Wu Junhao’s voice transmitted from the walkie-talkie:
"Target person number one, Guo Tian. 42 years old, currently owns a bar, has shares in a budget hotel and a cake shop. Photo ID G101, all operatives please confirm."
"Target person number two, Ouyang Wei. 38 years old, a shareholder in Guo Tian’s bar, also has shares in the budget hotel. He’s Guo Tian’s deputy, and had previously worked with Guo Tian at the Chaikolab Import and Export Trading Company. Photo ID G102."
Jiang Yuan also pulled out the photos labeled G101 and G102 from a kraft paper bag distributed before the mission.
G101 was a half-body portrait of a middle-aged man with a rather sinister look, slightly hunched back, holding a cigarette, and looking ruggedly unattractive. The information on the back of the photo indicated that it was pulled directly from his social circle.
The photo of G102 had the same origin, showing Ouyang Wei in front of the hood of a Jeep, posing with a hip-hop gesture and dressed in a similar style. He was slightly overweight.
Jiang Yuan memorized them carefully and then passed them to the front row.
Wu Junhao paused and then continued, "Soon, members from the public security and police station will go in first for a routine check and will keep Guo Tian and Ouyang Wei in the office, but they won’t be aware of the specifics. Vehicles 2 and 3, you wait at the back door, enter after receiving the signal and directly take the individuals back for interrogation."
He paused and then carried on, "Vehicle 4, lie in ambush at the front door, ready to support at any moment. Vehicle 1, wait at the back door, if backup is needed, you will be called, do not act on your own, your task is to hold the line and secure the route of retreat."
Vehicle 1 was the vehicle Jiang Yuan was in. Normally, catching two people with a team of eight, along with the help and control of officers from other units, and another four as backup in an additional vehicle, was very secure.
Jiang Yuan and Mu Zhiyang, along with others, waiting in the vehicle wasn’t a problem. Especially since Mu Zhiyang was armed, and with rifles also loaded in the vehicle, it was not suitable for them to enter the complex situation of a bar.
Jiang Yuan just calmly waited at the back door, watching the police from the other two vehicles quietly disembark and swarm into the rear entrance.
Qi Changye’s colleague seemed nervous as he glanced at his watch and after waiting a bit more whispered, "Are the other two groups seizing their targets simultaneously? Did they synchronize the time?"
"They did. They must have moved by now." Wang Chuanxing, looking at the brightly lit bar ahead, felt like it was in a superimposed state of noise and silence.
Crack...
The walkie-talkie chirped once, followed by Wu Junhao’s voice:
"We’ve caught Guo Tian and Ouyang Wei. We are now heading out."
Mu Zhiyang looked around and gently opened his holster.
Then, two teams of muscular men, each pulling a hooded man, exited the rear of the bar and shoved them into two separate vehicles.
"Retreat!"
With that command from Wu Junhao, a line of four vehicles swiftly left the scene.
At the same time, the display of Jiang Yuan’s system unfolded before him:
Mission 2: Leading by Example
Mission details: As forensic science personnel, it’s occasionally possible to personally go to the forefront.
Progress: (1/X)
Reward: Bullet Mark Identification (LV1)
Jiang Yuan’s eyelids twitched, Who would have thought that just staying at the back door counted as leading by example?
Forensics’ frontline requirements are really not that high.
Then, the walkie-talkie in vehicle 1 crackled to life again, and Wu Junhao said, "Captain Jiang, follow the car back to Zhengguang Bureau and interrogate the two individuals we captured."
"No need, I’ll come with you," Jiang Yuan decisively said. "Just focus on leading the capture operation; don’t worry about me."
"Alright then." Wu Junhao really had no time to worry about Jiang Yuan anymore, as team 2 was not progressing smoothly, and besides, Mu Zhiyang, being armed, was quite handy. They might actually need him soon.
