Chapter 648: Chapter 592: The Horse Path

While the film crew was there, Jiang Yuan worked overtime to clean up the cases in Litang Township.

To say he was clearing cases was actually more akin to clearing people.

Those from Litang Township who had been in prison, in detention, who left behind fingerprints and footprints, almost all had to pass through Jiang Yuan’s scrutiny.

Among them, there were always some who would be singled out and become a name on the task list.

Mu Zhiyang watched as the young assault team members left with a list and returned with suspects, and inexplicably began to feel sympathy.

"To be honest, it’s a bit too cruel," Mu Zhiyang said with a sigh looking at the young, shabbily dressed, wildly haired, attractive tattooed girl, "If it weren’t for Captain Jiang taking action, this girl who merely stole clothes, bags, and money wouldn’t have been caught."

"The value of the items involved is more than thirty thousand," Wang Chuanxing said, standing beside him, each holding a Zhonghua cigarette.

Mu Zhiyang hummed twice and said, "The clothing store pays less than 3,000 yuan in wages, and they deduct for full attendance too. The girl worked there for half a year and stole over thirty thousand yuan worth of goods, effectively giving herself a monthly raise of more than 5,000 yuan, sigh, it’s not worth it..."

"You need to find a girlfriend," Wang Chuanxing patted Mu Zhiyang’s shoulder.

"I’ll go on a blind date when I get back," Mu Zhiyang curled his lip and said, "I am of the promising future type now."

"Promise me you won’t be a sycophant. I can’t believe you’d say something about giving herself a raise."

"A girl who can work continuously for half a year is not bad."

"Is it possible that she only worked for a month before quitting, was frequently absent, and then came back after half a year to resign, demanding six months’ wages, and got into a fight with the boss’s wife, which is how she left her fingerprints?" Wang Chuanxing hypothesized, counting on his fingers.

Mu Zhiyang slowly nodded and said, "Sounds like someone from Litang Township."

"The atmosphere in Litang Township, both past and future Litang residents, will definitely be different," Wang Chuanxing said, taking a drag from the Zhonghua cigarette Jiang Yuan had given him and then fervently extinguishing the butt.

Mu Zhiyang maintained his honest smile and said, "You can’t be sure it will be different though, right?"

"I will keep an eye on this place," Wang Chuanxing said calmly but earnestly, "Even if Captain Wu retires, I will still be watching."

This was the first township he had cleaned up thoroughly, and even if he returned to the Changyang City Criminal Police Detachment or found himself elsewhere in the future, Wang Chuanxing would always pay attention to this place.

Mu Zhiyang didn’t fully understand Wang Chuanxing, yet he kind of did.

...

Jiang Yuan felt his brain was filled with various identity photos of the people of Litang Township.

From footprints to fingerprints, from tool marks to vehicle traces, Jiang Yuan recorded a large amount of information in his mind.

If he didn’t leave soon, he felt he wouldn’t be able to hold any more.

It was mainly because the average number of cases solved each day had plummeted. There were hardly any new cases being generated here; village bullies like the Jin Family had been caught, local snakes like the Zhang Family had been caught too, transient criminals, and occasional violent crimes had no way out, and petty thieves couldn’t find a foothold.

The crime ecology is a very important thing; once the ecology has been destroyed, it’s very difficult to proceed with criminal activities.

In the current Litang Township, saying "roads will not be strewn with lost valuables" is somewhat an understatement; in theory, "houses do not need to be locked at night" could be achieved.

Even if there were criminals or potential criminals who hadn’t been caught, they could only stay home and rot away.

The active, diligent, hardworking ones are now mostly in prison, and sometimes there isn’t any news about them, it’s just a positive selection process.

Those who were resistant got hit with an iron fist. Those who were pummeled frequently enough by the iron fist for not being reasonable started to seek out reason.

Jiang Yuan picked a sunny and breezy afternoon to return to Ningtai County.

Task: A Single Feather Overwhelms the Boat, A Multitude of Light Causes the Cart to Break

Task Content: Assist Wu Junhao with his work in Litang Township.

Task Progress: 535/535

Task Reward: Crime Scene Investigation +1

Crime Scene Reconstruction (Temporary +1 and lasts for 535 minutes)

This was the task Jiang Yuan received when he was on his way to Litang Township.

The fixed reward was Crime Scene Investigation +1, but the temporary +1 in Crime Scene Reconstruction was somewhat special. Theoretically, Crime Scene Reconstruction is actually part of Crime Scene Investigation.

However, in practice, Crime Scene Reconstruction is a specialized field in its own right. But indeed, it relies heavily on the conclusions drawn from Crime Scene Investigation.

Moreover, not every scene can undergo Crime Scene Reconstruction. It requires a lot of information. For example, if someone rushes into a porcelain store with a knife and slashes three people, two dogs, one cat, and half an Angora Ferret, then with Crime Scene Investigation combined with Bloodstain Analysis, a very pretty Crime Scene Reconstruction can be done.

But if someone slips into a subway station during an afternoon rush hour and slits someone’s throat in an area without surveillance cameras, that Crime Scene Reconstruction would be much more difficult.

For Jiang Yuan, upgrading his Crime Scene Investigation by one more level would get him to the very top, Level 5, which is comparable to Bloodstain Analysis.

So, whether it’s leveraging Crime Scene Investigation for a +1 in Crime Scene Reconstruction, or building on Bloodstain Analysis for an additional +1 in Crime Scene Reconstruction, either would briefly reach Level 6.

Level 6 is a level that normal detectives can only dream of reaching, and there probably aren’t even a few in the whole country.

Considering the wide applicability of Crime Scene Investigation, Jiang Yuan couldn’t help but feel fondness for Litang Township. He suddenly wanted to turn around, go back, and work hard there for another half a year to properly give back to the residents of Litang Township.

...

Accompanying him were Cui Xiaohu and Huang Qiangmin leading the team downstairs to meet them, but there was no sign of Director Chai.

Jiang Yuan greeted everyone and didn’t ask Huang Qiangmin about Director Chai until he returned to the office out of curiosity.

Usually, Director Chai was quite good at surface-level courtesies, particularly when superiors were visiting, always arranging everything appropriately. His absence was rarely seen.

Huang Qiangmin curled his lips and said, "He’s seeking a transfer. I heard he’s hunting for connections to move on."

Jiang Yuan was startled, "He’s giving up just like that?"

"You’ve made your stance clear, what can he do if he doesn’t give up?" Huang Qiangmin was quite emotional.

Director Chai’s biggest demand had actually been to have the rights to sell Jiang Yuan’s services, preferably exclusively, but even at his most arrogant, he had never truly pursued the exclusive right to sell Jiang Yuan.

Once Jiang Yuan completely shut down cooperative attitudes, Chai Tong suddenly realized that not only could he no longer hold his position, but it had also become a burden.

The cases in Ningtai County were already few, and he couldn’t direct Jiang Yuan. Dispatching the remaining police officers alone to other places would really be asking for trouble. Units from other places would not be pleased, and the local officers would be unhappy...

Even if he shut the door to live his own little life, it wouldn’t mean much anymore, with no business inside and the value of a police officer not able to shine through.

As for controlling Jiang Yuan, Chai Tong had already lost the initiative.

During this period, Jiang Yuan didn’t involve himself in the cases Director Chai had sold, and now it seemed Director Chai couldn’t even catch up cleaning up the mess.

"He probably still wants to find a place in advance. It’s also a bit more dignified that way." Huang Qiangmin stopped talking about it and turned to ask Jiang Yuan, "What’s your plan?"

"I’ll go home and rest for a few more days, then sort out the gains from Litang Township and see if I can write an article," Jiang Yuan had already thought it through.

"That’s good, that’s good..." Huang Qiangmin nodded repeatedly. After all, Jiang Yuan’s rank was low enough that his request for leave would be more than approved by him.

And without Jiang Yuan at the unit, Director Chai had no means of easing the situation.

Units that had cases and wished to invite Jiang Yuan, after confirming his attitude and thoughts, would only increase pressure on Director Chai.

Jiang Yuan simply handed over his duties and followed his mentor Wu Jun in a set of rituals before heading back to Jiangcun Residential Area.

He got home, drank soup, ate meat, played with the dog...

Early the next morning, Jiang Yuan stretched his arms while descending the stairs, only to see Jiang Yongxin standing at the roadside with two middle-aged police officers after taking a stroll around the neighborhood.

Upon closer inspection, one was Zhou Ta, a middle-aged auxiliary officer from Zoumadao Police Station whom he had encountered before, and the other was Tan Jing, the chief of Zoumadao Police Station.

Jiangcun Residential Area was within Zoumadao Police Station’s jurisdiction, so Jiang Yuan stopped to greet them, "Station Tan, is there something you need?"

"I need a favor from you," Station Tan greeted with a full smile and a very direct attitude.

"If there’s anything you need, feel free to give the order," Jiang Yuan said with a grin.

"I’ve heard about the matter at Litang Township Police Station. They’ve made quite a name for themselves in this year’s summer public safety crackdown," Station Tan took a deep breath and looked toward Jiang Yuan, saying, "Strictly speaking, summer isn’t over yet."
