Chapter 573: Chapter 520: Gentleman

Jiang Yuan’s gaze fell on Yuan Yushan’s changing room.

Ever since she became the general manager of Jianyuan Group, Yuan Yushan had devoted most of her time to the company every day.

Thus, after her work stabilized, the first modification Yuan Yushan made to her office was to create a separate changing room.

At this moment, the door to the changing room was open, revealing various clothes, hats, shoes, and bags neatly arranged.

Yuan Yushan was the type to change clothes each time she returned to her office before going out again. Moreover, she had very high requirements for the frequency and appearance of her outfits. Most of her clothes were worn only once, with occasional favorites being remixed and matched, but most never had that chance.

In fact, most of Yuan Yushan’s suits were Chanel, and the left side of her wardrobe, arranged directly by Chanel sales staff who delivered to her office, reflected this. A monthly clothing budget of over a million was in line with her dual identity.

When Jiang Yuan saw Yuan Yushan’s wardrobe, a familiar feeling surfaced in his mind immediately.

In Jiang Village, some young girls also lived like this, even comparing with each other on social media for a time. It stopped only after two or three families became bankrupt due to the men gambling away their fortune.

Yuan Yushan’s changing room was also filled to the brim.

Since it was a renovation within the office, her changing room wasn’t large, at most around 20 square meters. With cabinets all around, there was just enough space left in the middle for changing clothes and a mirror.

Such a changing room had to be made with exquisite compactness.

With one glance, Jiang Yuan noticed that the rows of clothes in the wardrobe were all fully hung, with garments spaced nearly identically from each other, which was pleasing to the eye. Only on the right side of the wardrobe was there a gap.

On either side of the gap, there were sportswear, shorts, and yoga pants. Most likely, they were the clothes Yuan Yushan changed into for her daily exercise.

The shoe rack below the clothes was similarly organized, but there was a pair of sports shoes missing.

At this critical juncture, it was obvious Yuan Yushan couldn’t possibly have gone out for exercise. So, her last changing spot must have been this office, without going home for further preparation.

This also meant that the shoes she changed into here were the ones she continued wearing.

Jiang Yuan then called over Yuan Yushan’s assistant, pointed to the empty spot in the changing room, and asked, "What brand and model of clothes and shoes does Yuan Yushan wear?"

The little assistant seemed surprised and a bit timid as she said, "I’m not quite sure. I’ve only been employed for a little over a year..."

Jiang Yuan asked amiably, "Who is in charge of organizing the changing room?"

The assistant’s expression changed slightly as she said, "I’m responsible for organizing it, but sometimes the salespeople bringing the clothes will help organize, and sometimes the logistics girls will help too..."

Jiang Yuan interrupted her, "The missing pair of shoes and clothes, what brand are they, and what do they look like?"

"I really don’t remember..."

Jiang Yuan’s face darkened, "If you truly don’t remember, I won’t blame you. But then we’ll have to ask the logistics staff and brand salespeople, who was the last one to come up here, on which day they came, whether they helped organize the wardrobe, and if you were involved in organizing or instructing them. I’ll also ask them if you regularly manage this changing room, and if you know the details of the clothes and shoes inside. If the answers aren’t in your favor, do you know how that will end for you?"

The little assistant’s eyes widened, unable to utter a word.

The two bald members of the Bald Strike Team looked at the slender, pretty assistant and back at Jiang Yuan who had fully entered investigation mode, and they almost felt a swell of sympathy.

Jiang Yuan, who had shortly left a hundred people dead, exuded a sweeping fury, almost overwhelming the recently graduated assistant.

Jiang Yuan continued, "If you are merely fulfilling your responsibilities as an assistant and have not participated in drug trafficking, you will go back to your normal life and receive your salary afterwards. But..."

Jiang Yuan looked at the small assistant and said, "If you fail to report what you know, that’s harboring a criminal, violating Article 310 of the Criminal Law, punishable by up to three years in prison. In serious cases, the sentence can be up to ten years. You know what ’serious cases’ mean? If the person you’re harboring receives a life sentence or more, if they are the leader of an organized crime group, a key member of a crime syndicate..."

"It’s just a Nike, the clothes are Nike. The shoes are from Zambella," the little assistant blurted out with closed eyes, as if her own sentencing was imminent if she kept silent.

"Where’d you get the items? Who gave them to you? Write it down for him," Jiang Yuan then pointed at the office desk again, and had Lu Tongda bring her pen and paper one more time.

The little assistant wrote at her desk in a fluster, tears falling as she wrote, "I’ve only been employed for a little over a year. Being chosen by the general manager to be his assistant was a great opportunity for me, and I couldn’t possibly not take it. How could I have known such a big company would... would commit crimes..."

"Make sure your handwriting is clear!" Mu Zhiyang, standing two meters away with his hand resting at his waist, didn’t believe a word she was saying. Even a female assistant could be a well-trained expert.

"The clothes and shoes were delivered by logistics. Typically, Mr. Yuan would make his choices and email them directly; my only responsibility was to check..." The little assistant basically wrote what she was saying, carefully handing it over to Jiang Yuan.

"Call Director Liu and have them find someone from logistics," Jiang Yuan glanced at the note and continued, "Ask them what else was delivered besides Nike clothing and Zambella shoes, send over the specific model of the shoes, and if possible, a picture of the sole."

Turning back to the little assistant, Jiang Yuan directly asked, "How did Yuan Yushan hand things off to you when she left? What did she say, what did she do, what tasks did she leave you with, and what was she wearing? Tell me everything..."

As the little assistant listened, tears started to pour down.

Her crying not only failed to garner any sympathy from the few policemen present but actually heightened their vigilance.

If she hadn’t been involved, she wouldn’t be crying like this.

Mu Zhiyang became even more impatient, "Enough crying, it’s just wasting time. Crying doesn’t change that you might be charged with abetting a crime. Answer what you’re asked, and hurry up."

"I... when I saw Mr. Yuan last night, he told me to put on a skirt, and to stand by the floor-to-ceiling window for a while after an hour..." The little assistant, wiping her tears, recounted the previous night’s events.

By now she had almost understood that Yuan Yushan was unlikely to return, and the promises and grand plans from the previous night were empty.

Having toiled as an assistant for a year, she would end up with nothing, and worse yet, she might even go to jail?

The more the little assistant spoke, the more heartbroken she became, her tears causing her eyelashes to clump together.

"What else did she arrange? Did she leave on her own? What was she wearing?"

Jiang Yuan continued to urge.

When the little assistant looked up, she saw five men staring at her with fierce expressions, not a gentleman among them.

With no other choice, the little assistant continued, "There were no other arrangements. She left by herself carrying a canvas bag, with water and a flashlight, as well as a power bank, charger, and two thousand yuan..."

"What kind of flashlight?" Jiang Yuan interrupted her.

The little assistant hesitated, "Just an outdoor flashlight; I don’t recognize the brand..."

While they spoke, the information from logistics arrived. The flashlight was indeed on the list.

Jiang Yuan had the little assistant taken away, then called Liu Jinghui, "She must have used the underground pipes. Yuan Yushan left with a flashlight."

"Which way did she go?" Liu Jinghui’s voice rose all at once. Theorizing was one thing, but having evidence to support it was thrilling.

"I don’t know the exact location. But the last thing she did was change clothes in the office building and take a flashlight."

Liu Jinghui grunted in acknowledgment, "I’ll bring in dogs," he said.

"By the way, Yuan Yushan left around 10 o’clock last night." Jiang Yuan paused for a moment, then reluctantly continued, "It’s very possible that she has already left the Jianyuan factory area."

"All the roads in and out of Qinghe City are checked," Liu Jinghui started, then paused briefly before he emphasized, "I don’t think she could have escaped, otherwise, Yuan Jiansheng wouldn’t need to make such a big scene."

Jiang Yuan’s eyes lit up upon hearing this, indeed, if she had escaped on a normal route, considering it had been 12 hours since 10 last night, it wouldn’t be surprising if Yuan Yushan had left the province. But if it were that simple, what was Yuan Jiansheng up to?

"I’ll send you the pattern of the sole of Yuan Yushan’s shoes; they’re Zambella, unlikely to be a common make. I’ll scan around here a bit more and then head to Yuan Yuming’s office," Jiang Yuan offered the information without even inquiring about the situation with Yuan Jiansheng.

At this stage, one had to trust their comrades-in-arms.
