Chapter 140 - 140 136 Dissecting the Corpse

140: Chapter 136: Dissecting the Corpse 140: Chapter 136: Dissecting the Corpse Visiting Master Wu Jun naturally meant that he couldn’t go empty-handed.

Jiang Yuan ate the pig stomach and chicken combo and found it quite delicious, so he called the owner to make another portion.

After paying extra, he carried away the hot pot and even the bowls and chopsticks.

Hou Xiaoyong, following the captain’s orders, drove Jiang Yuan to the mortuary and brought the pig stomach and chicken combo along.

The hot pot was piping hot, especially noticeable in the small car in the early morning.

As Hou Xiaoyong was about to arrive at the mortuary, his expression changed slightly and he said, “Where do you plan to eat the pig stomach chicken?”

“I’ve never been to this mortuary before…” Jiang Yuan replied halfway before he caught Hou Xiaoyong’s expression and realized, laughing, “Don’t worry, we won’t eat next to the corpses.”

“Is that so?

Hahaha, I might’ve overthought it.” Hou Xiaoyong had also just finished eating and was no stranger to corpses, but the thought of the pig stomach chicken made his stomach churn.

Jiang Yuan felt for him and once again assured him, “Corpses all contain germs, and it’s not possible to sterilize them.

So things like our gloves, once they’ve touched a dead body, it’s bad for them to come into contact with the living and such.

It’s not sanitary, nor is it respectful.”

“That’s true.” Hou Xiaoyong smiled ruefully, “I was just thinking, I’ve seen forensic doctors eat at the autopsy table before, it must have been staged.”

“Uh…” Jiang Yuan pondered.

Hou Xiaoyong waited for a while but did not get the response he expected and looked at Jiang Yuan, his stomach churning again, “Do you really eat at the autopsy table?”

“It depends on which autopsy table you’re talking about.

If there are no corpses on it, it’s washed thoroughly with cleaners.

Then, of course, there are no contamination issues,” Jiang Yuan said with a smile.

If this had been when he first started working, he might have thought about it more, but not anymore; he was used to the presence of the dissection room in his daily life now.

Hou Xiaoyong, of course, could not get used to that idea and continued woodenly, “If there’s no corpse on the autopsy table, then there’s also no issue of disrespect.

Therefore, does it mean we can eat on the autopsy table?”

Jiang Yuan chuckled and quoted something Master Wu Jun once said, “Actually, it doesn’t matter much, mainly because forensic offices don’t have designated dining areas.”

Hou Xiaoyong didn’t know how to respond.

When they arrived, he watched Jiang Yuan carry the pig stomach and chicken combo into the elevator and couldn’t help but feel anxious for the food stall owner.

Thankfully, Jiang Yuan had paid for the pot and the kitchenware; otherwise, what would they have done with the hot pot upon returning it?

The dissection room.

Doctor Ye from Longli County, Medical Examiner Wang Lan from Qinghe City Bureau, and Master Wu Jun all eagerly awaited the pig stomach and chicken combo.

Upon meeting, Wu Jun grinned and said, “Just now, Ye kept telling me how delicious the pig stomach chicken was, and I was worried that if you spilled it on the way, I’d die of hunger right here in the dissection room.”

Jiang Yuan laughed out loud but quickly composed himself, saying, “That sort of comment could easily be misunderstood if it gets out.”

“No way, it really smells quite nice,” Wu Jun said, leading Jiang Yuan into the dissection room.

As he entered, he saw on the stainless steel autopsy table a body laid out, with its hair and beard shaved off.

The scalp had been peeled back, partly covering the face and forehead, the skull was sawn open horizontally, and the brain was already removed.

Jiang Yuan glanced at it without looking further and asked, “Any conclusions yet?”

“Beaten to death with a stick,” Doctor Ye said nonchalantly, hastily placing the hot pot on a dissection bed some distance away.

The dissection room in Longli County was even larger than the one in Ningtai County, with three dissection beds inside and significant space between them, a rather comfortable setup.

Medical Examiner Wang Lan from Qinghe City Bureau followed the protocol and said,

“The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, leading to fatal brain injury.”

These were words that could be directly included in the appraisal report, but they were clearly not as detailed as Doctor Ye’s explanation.

Jiang Yuan glanced at Doctor Ye and then at Master Wu Jun and asked, “The murder weapon hasn’t been found yet, has it?”

“Right, the body is covered in marks from a severe beating, indicative of venting anger,” Wu Jun said as he laid out the bowls and dishes, each with its own dipping sauce, and then sat down, adding, “We suspect it’s something lighter than a steel pipe, more flexible, like a thin wooden stick or something similar.”

Jiang Yuan nodded and said, “You guys go ahead and eat, I’ll check the body.”

With that, he changed into his clothes and his own gloves and leaned over the body to begin his examination.

The cause of death was quite clear; the cranial injuries were distinctly evident.

However, since the murder weapon wasn’t found at the scene, identifying its type and appearance became a top priority in the forensic work.

Because the murder weapon is held in the killer’s hand, finding it makes it much easier to prove the killer’s identity.

Sometimes a distinctive weapon can break the case wide open.

Jiang Yuan proceeded to examine the body, following the usual sequence of an autopsy.

If it weren’t for his intent to take a look, Wu Jun and the others would have moved the body to the morgue hours ago.

The body bore signs of being beaten all over.

It wasn’t just the arms, legs, and back that were struck; the chest and stomach were also hit, and even the groin had been battered multiple times.

“The beating lasted a long time?” Jiang Yuan asked slowly.

Wu Jun was eating a piece of tripe, and when Jiang Yuan asked, he chewed and replied while eating, “That’s another reason we guess the weapon was relatively light.

If it were too heavy, the victim would have died earlier.”

Jiang Yuan couldn’t help but recall the scene at the scavenging courtyard, where he had repeatedly sifted through the items, which now played vividly in his mind.

Almost instinctively, Jiang Yuan said, “PVC pipe?”

“Hmm…possible,” Wu Jun, who was drinking soup, paused and then nodded, saying, “Very possible…”

Wang Lan looked over in surprise and asked, “Did you see a PVC pipe?”

“There were some pressed down in the yard.

And there was a small pile by the entrance,” Jiang Yuan connected the dots and said, “It’s very possible that the murderer picked up a PVC pipe to use as a weapon upon entering.”

“Possible,” Doctor Ye also expressed agreement.

However, it couldn’t be definitively determined that it was a PVC pipe yet, but placing it at the top of the list was still no problem.

Meanwhile, a shiny dumpling trickled out from the head of the corpse.

Jiang Yuan reached out to catch it and saw a system message flash:

Zhang Hong’s Legacy: Waste Sorting (LV4) — Waste was something Zhang Hong was most familiar with.

He was adept at categorizing items and placing them in his courtyard.

Typically, he sorted by the value of the items, but after the government implemented waste sorting regulations, he quickly learned this method too.

The learning method was simple: just rummage through enough garbage bins and remember the various types of waste inside.

In Zhang Hong’s eyes, not only was everything inside the garbage bins trash, but everything outside as well.
