Chapter 1335: Chapter 1261 Looking

10:00 PM.

The Y chromosome identification report is out.

A Yu Family, consisting of seven previously convicted individuals, now appears before Jiang Yuan.

"The Yu Family is local, primarily residing in Shallow Pond Village. The local population of the Yu surname exceeds 2,000 people, not including those who have moved away. We’ve checked records from the past two years, and there have been no reports of missing persons from the Yu Family, and those reported dead are all elderly," Hang Haichuan introduced the situation together with people from the Customs Investigation Bureau and the Criminal Police Brigade of Tianjin City Bureau.

Hang Haichuan: "Among the seven previously convicted members of the Yu Family, five were suspected of smuggling, the other two, one for rape, and one for causing minor injuries. I briefly looked at the files, and they all essentially relate to smuggling."

Hang Haichuan became excited: "According to the Y chromosome identification report, can we directly investigate the Yu Family?"

Essentially, he was still reluctant to use special agents; even to gather some inside information seemed unnecessary.

Jiang Yuan flatly denied: "Even if the Y chromosome is confirmed to belong to Yu Family members, simply investigating them does not necessarily provide clues pointing to the killer."

"In that case... fine, you are the authority in criminal investigation," Hang Haichuan no longer debated but instead said, "Regarding arrests, we can bring in anyone with a criminal record without issue. As for other male family members, we have identified ten suspects through technical investigation and cyber security, who can also be brought in. As for the rest, who else do you think should be brought in for questioning?"

"Just bring these individuals over; leave one or two with broad social connections, and I will take a look," Jiang Yuan then shifted the conversation: "After all, we are investigating a smuggling case. Although the Yu Family members could be victims’ relatives, they could also be part of a smuggling syndicate. This situation might be a bit different from normal, and I appreciate your effort."

"Not at all, it is our duty," Hang Haichuan replied repeatedly.

The intelligence section chief hesitated and asked, "Isn’t our focus supposed to be a homicide case?"

"Smuggling case, homicide case, it’s crucial to differentiate between them," Jiang Yuan waved his hand, intending not to draw a boundary on this matter.

At this moment, Qiu Jianye from the Tianjin Police Station Criminal Police Brigade, who hadn’t said much, stepped forward and remarked, "You are correct. A perpetrator doesn’t care which law they violate when committing a crime. In our investigation, we cannot be confined by the crime label; the suspect might have committed a homicide during the smuggling. Let’s handle it together. Director Jiang’s strategy is very accurate..."

Liu Jinghui quickly shook his hand: "Thank you for your support..."

"No need to mention," Qiu Jianye turned his hand to shake Liu Jinghui’s again and said, "Director Jiang, if you want to participate in the arrest, I will arrange it. Rest assured, it will be well done."

"Interrogation," Liu Jinghui corrected.

"Yes, yes, interrogation," Qiu Jianye raised a thumb.

Hence, the icebreak between the two places was considered completed.

Pause.

Jiang Yuan and others boarded the private cars arranged by Hang Haichuan, forming a convoy that swiftly left the port.

Once the convoy hit the main road, Liu Jinghui asked Jiang Yuan, "What’s your thought?"

"Can’t it be participating in the interrogation, to understand the case with the involved parties?" Jiang Yuan replied lightly.

For him, the progress of this case was under control, and to some extent, it was more straightforward than a typical criminal case.

Liu Jinghui, sharing the relaxed mood, laughed, "Seven cars, over twenty people going out to understand the case? The involved parties aren’t Lin Chong."

"You’ve caught on," Jiang Yuan also laughed.

"Everyone caught on, right? Hang Haichuan might be in the car reporting right now. Within half an hour, our accompanying army could double. Are you not trusting him?" Liu Jinghui thought, with such a blatant cover, it’s like pretending to be injured before his wife or brandishing a sword outside the temple of Guan Gong.

"Not exactly about trust," Jiang Yuan adjusted his collar, "However, with so much money flowing around a port like this... I feel if we follow standard procedures and bring these involved parties back for questioning, it’s hard to achieve results. Even if they are willing to provide leads, it’s not necessarily true. As previously mentioned, it’s likely gossip."

"Indeed. If the information received is mixed with truth and falsehood, and faced with police, for every ten falsehoods, they would outrun themselves."

"Also worried they might mistake false information for the truth." Jiang Yuan wasn’t particularly skilled in interrogation, so relying on interrogation for case solving wasn’t aligned with his thinking process. It’s useful for direction finding and re-verification but not as a primary approach.

Liu Jinghui, also not inclined towards interrogation, agreed, "Deep down, this Yu Family, although there are seven previously convicted members, now claiming ten possible involved parties, if they are still staying on the mainland and being easily singled out, it indicates they are not qualified to control a smuggling syndicate, more likely the underlings of one or several smuggling groups."

"Smuggling riffraff," Mu Zhiyang added on the side.

"Kind of like that," Liu Jinghui said as he looked at Jiang Yuan and asked, "Then how do you plan to handle it?"

"Let’s see in person, these people should be able to provide crime leads actively," Jiang Yuan lounged in the seat and said relaxedly, "We may not be adept at handling smuggling case investigation, but dealing with suspects, we have plenty of ways."

Liu Jinghui nodded and looked at Jiang Yuan more seriously, "You’re looking more like an expert now."

Jiang Yuan merely smiled. With a rich skill set, it’s easier to maintain stable emotions, even in smuggling cases. While things on the sea might be unpredictable, there are always numerous cameras on land, and unless someone has Level 3 anti-surveillance skills, within the area ruled by Image Investigation, it’s a matter of how long it takes Jiang Yuan.

Lu Tongda pressed the gas pedal, and the convoy started to accelerate.

The accompanying vehicles from the Tianjin Customs Investigation Bureau quickly sped up to follow, while phoning Hang Haichuan.

A row of cars parked in the underground garage.

The bar’s sales manager had long awaited at the entrance, then watched as several uniformed police officers changed into plain clothes in front of him, without changing expression, and asked, "How do we plan to play?"

"The people in front should have arrived. Arrange for us to sit down," said Qiu Jianye getting out of the back car, changed into a floral shirt, and with sunglasses tucked at his chest, looked like a mobster forgotten by the times.

"No problem." The sales manager saw this and dared not say more, thinking about the job-hopping plans after the bar closes, leading the group into the elevator.

The elevator doors opened, and in the dim light, the sales manager guided the people into two booths near the central area.

Several burly men, also wearing floral shirts, with their chests exposed, sat in two booths, with piles of beer in front, pretending to play games, like a monk’s game.

"Captain Jiang, please sit here." Qiu Jianye first settled Jiang Yuan and introduced his subordinates.

Jiang Yuan greeted them respectively.

One of Qiu Jianye’s subordinates handed a cigarette to Jiang Yuan and added, "Your target, Yu Mingxuan, is sitting at table six, to your right, wearing a yellow Versace with a large logo."

Jiang Yuan glanced over and saw a skinny young man in his twenties, doing his best to cuddle two long-legged, short-skirted beauties, smiling as if he were a carnivorous plant.

The booth where Yu Mingxuan was seated was the largest in the bar, with more than twenty people sitting inside, out of which seven or eight were men, half skinny and half brawny.

Qiu Jianye continued the introduction, "From what we understand, Yu Mingxuan primarily engages in two businesses: one is through online and offline channels, selling smuggled rosewood beads, red wine, and such. He has opened a shop in the city, also operating a micro store, private domain and the likes. The second is dealing in frozen products; he recently started it. The sales are already up, making quite a profit."

"It’s apparent."

Qiu Jianye chuckled: "Sitting across from Yu Mingxuan is his frozen product business partner, named Wang Zhanlong. Lately, he’s been handing out business cards to the owners of the frozen product wholesale markets, a bit foolishly. Even if we don’t approach him, it won’t be long before he gets caught."

"Are they both considered distributor roles in the smuggling operation?" Jiang Yuan asked.

"Pretty much. Smugglers spare them some profit, and they develop markets on their own, conducting sales themselves. The smarter ones, keeping discreetly, can earn money for two years. Boys like these, eager to brag about smuggling to every girl they meet, will soon be listed. Ideally, if they worked for a few months then backed off, or even half a year, they wouldn’t necessarily be caught. But everyone has the gambler’s mindset; those able to withdraw promptly wouldn’t engage in smuggling."

While Qiu Jianye spoke, Jiang Yuan casually observed Yu Mingxuan and others at the booth.

Suddenly, Yu Mingxuan turned around, stared at Jiang Yuan, and snarled, "What are you looking at?"
