Chapter 1037: Chapter 970: The Sparrow’s Message

A sparrow, flying over the Tai River, over the shrubbery, past the guardrails of Jiangcun Residential Area, lightly landed on the branch of a large tree. With a curious gaze, it looked down upon a group of humans below.

Several people lay on the ground, faces pressed to the earth, firmly pinned down by another group, like pitiful mice under the talons of an eagle, their eyes clear, gasping continuously, both innocent and desperate.

The sparrow took flight, deliberately soaring over the heads of these people before flying on. Not long after, it watched as a few humans were squeezed into rabbit-like shapes by their own kind.

The sparrow shivered and felt the humans below were nothing but noise.

It continued to fly and saw many humans marching in neat steps along the main road, with people constantly gathering around them, then dispersing, coming together again, and dispersing once more. Occasionally someone would start running, and occasionally, someone would be pressed against the ground and rubbed.

Hiss...

A jeep drove by, emitting a screeching friction sound.

Shen Yaoguo stepped on the car door, flipping out of the vehicle with style.

This move, he had practiced for an entire afternoon when he first started working, falling seven or eight times before he learned it. And on his first time driving to pick up his girlfriend for a date, he successfully performed it and thereby achieved their first handhold.

Although, the grown-up Shen Yaoguo knew that the jeep was the star that day, he simply fell in love with driving jeeps all the more.

"Officer Shen." The policeman by the road saluted Shen Yaoguo.

"Keep up the good work." Shen Yaoguo nodded amiably. This round he was at the grassroots in a white shirt, and in Ningtai County, a place booming with development, he naturally wanted to put on a good performance.

Wu Junhao’s standard running motion approached to salute: "Officer Shen, my team is in pursuit of suspects."

"Oh, how goes it?" Shen Yaoguo asked casually.

Wu Junhao chuckled and said, "9 suspects, fleeing on foot, have captured 6, pursuing the remaining three on foot."

Seeing Wu Junhao’s confident demeanor, Shen Yaoguo asked, "Can you catch them?"

"No problem." Wu Junhao puffed out his chest, then smiled and said, "Just ran a five-kilometer stretch, I’ll pull them together, consider it a drill."

Shen Yaoguo didn’t know Wu Junhao very well, but through his cousin, Shen Yaowei, he was aware of him. Slightly frowning, he said, "You chased for five kilometers?"

"Yes."

"What case?"

"Just a few little rascals, cheating and eating, stealing chickens and dogs." Wu Junhao spoke quite vaguely.

Shen Yaoguo understood immediately, "Street thugs? Are they organized?"

"No, just a bunch of kids messing around together."

"We must also be vigilant against this kind of thing—the formation of juvenile gangs organized on their own, full of vitality..." Shen Yaoguo recalled his early days at work and said, "Back then, the ministry organized a special operation targeting juvenile groups nationwide. Those young people imitating gangsters posed a significant hidden danger to local public security!"

"Yes, we’re keeping an eye on that." Wu Junhao quickly responded, then added, "These few probably haven’t reached that extent yet. I’ll give them a good training—chase them for another five kilometers, then haul them back to wake them up."

The total amount these young people stole by petty theft is already enough for criminal charges. In fact, these multiple thefts are somewhat worse than a single theft of a large amount, especially considering they were committed in collusion. If truly calculated, they all warrant some time in prison.

However, these types of young people are quite difficult to catch. Not only do they lack a fixed residence, but their actions are also very unfettered. This time, Wu Junhao still had to make a call to lure out these people’s location—they were all hiding and sleeping in a rental house together, nine of them in one that an extended family member had vacated temporarily.

Under normal circumstances, to process the cases of these nine individuals would require the workload of three or four police officers over three or four days, and it still might not be possible to collect all the evidence clearly.

Fortunately, with the intervention of the public security brigade, the newly established patrol and explosives disposal squad led by Wu Junhao didn’t need to get deeply involved in handling the case. The follow-up would be handed over to the public security team of Ningtai County, with the guidance of higher-level departments, making things relatively more convenient.

With officers in white shirts watching, Wu Junhao couldn’t spend too long training troops. He spoke through the walkie-talkie, and after a while, he saw several exhausted young men being dragged back.

"Okay, carry on with your work." Shen Yaoguo turned to jump back into the jeep, looking dashing driving away.

Behind him, the photographers who finished taking pictures also packed up their gear and returned.

The jeep drove on and then turned into Jiangcun Residential Area.

Inside the residential area, flowers and grass were lush, and the scent of cooking meat was in the air.

"Brother, you’re back." Shen Yaowei came over to take the car keys when he saw Shen Yaoguo getting out of the car with things, and he hurriedly offered to help.

"Stop it, your arm is injured. People who don’t know better might think you’ve been on the front lines." Shen Yaoguo used to often educate his younger cousin, so he was somewhat used to this.

"That really was like being on the front lines." Shen Yaowei chuckled: "Mu Zhiyang carries a gun with him. The suspect is a dismemberment maniac."

"Right. How was the first crime scene? Was evidence collection smooth? How’s Jiang Yuan’s mood?" Shen Yaowei asked a stream of questions, the last being the most important.

"The first crime scene was in the victim’s own home. The victim was a girl who did livestreaming at home, and her room was cluttered with goods, with only some space in the area where she broadcasted and the bathroom." Shen Yaowei gestured with his hand, then continued: "The killer was a vendor from the clothing market, delivering goods to the girl. After arriving, they had a dispute over the handling, which then escalated to murder."

Shen Yaowei also sighed as he recounted, then said: "The evidence was all ready at hand. The elevator surveillance video in the residential area is stored for a long time, so we could find records of the killer entering and leaving on the day of the incident. To make the move easier, he dismembered the victim into large pieces on the spot where she normally did her livestreams, packed them into woven bags, then into large corrugated boxes, carried them to his car, took them back to his residence, and cut them up again before disposing of the body."

Shen Yaowei: "The victim’s home wasn’t cleaned very thoroughly, just cleared on the surface, but when we collected samples, we were able to get traces of blood, and with the surveillance footage, timestamps, records of vehicle entries and exits, we basically cleared up the timeline."

Shen Yaowei: "Captain Jiang, of course, was happy. Solving the case is grounds for joy."

Shen Yaoguo wanted to hear just that and laughed heartily, saying: "That’s good that Captain Jiang is happy. By the way, why did he need to cut the body into such small pieces? Couldn’t he just dispose of it in large pieces?"

Shen Yaowei explained: "The large pieces are very heavy; they can only be dumped by the roadside or thrown off bridges into the water. The murderer, who runs on the roads every day, knew the bridges were all under surveillance, but he still wanted to throw the body into the water, so he cut it into smaller chunks, packed them into woven bags, and dumped them into the water." Shen Yaowei said, shaking his head: "Later when it rained and the water rose, they all washed up to shore."

"I see..." Shen Yaoguo mused for a moment: "Captain Jiang drinks, doesn’t he? What are the drinking customs in Jiang Village?"
