Chapter 956: Chapter 350 Inverted World_3
Surviving alone isn’t enough!
Philomena wrapped her arm around Wayne’s, "My dear, how did you come to the Inverted World?"
The greed of the human heart was vividly manifested at this moment. Before, she merely wanted to survive, but now she craved more—power, wealth, freedom, and even to go to the Outer World to replace her counterpart and take away everything that belonged to the other.
The two worlds, one positive and one negative. Wayne knew he should not harbor hope for Philomena, but when push came to shove, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment. He shook his head and said, "It’s a long story, I won’t get into it now. Tell me, what has this world become?"
"It started two years ago..."
The Outer and Inverted Worlds share the same timeline; two years ago was November 1837. After self-implosion, the Inverted World rebooted and began a new storyline to mirror the Outer World.
By the way, Wayne came through in January of 1838, after bickering with a potato for three months before being picked up by the three pups, so the Inverted World’s copy was ’him’ and not him.
After the rebirth of the world, everyone could look up to see the sky’s mirror image, which was the Outer World of the God-chosen Continent. Black negative information descended from the sky, pervasive and overturning balance, pushing everything towards destruction.
Realizing their existence was merely in the mirror and doomed, everyone plunged into madness. Ordinary people hoarded weapons and food; the machinery of the state went berserk; mages attacked each other, amplifying negative emotions, doing all the things they had always wanted to do but never dared.
Hell was deserted, while the devils roamed the Mortal World. In less than a year, war had destroyed the order of the Inverted World.
Nations no longer had governments, The Church also crumbled in a civil war. In this apocalypse, the strong held everything, while the weak were either nearly wiped out or enslaved to serve the strong, lingering under their protection just to survive.
Wayne, taking Philomena with him, left the sewers and stepped onto a wasteland.
Among the ruined walls, shattered stones and twisted metal intertwined, a tattered scroll spread out from both sides of the street, its former prosperity and glory long gone.
The air was filled with the stench of decayed waste, and a gust of wind lifted a whirlwind of dust and the remnants of ashes.
Dead silence, gloom, loneliness, despair.
Looking up was the warmly lit Outer World of the God-chosen Continent.
The other side of the mirror shone brightly, its beauty so piercing that it aggravated the people living in the Inverted World. They believed there was no such thing as unfounded hatred. Everyone was convinced that the peaceful years of the Outer World were because the Inverted World bore the burdens.
"How despicable, who made this mirror..."
Wayne’s face darkened; without comparison there is no harm, without seeing the light, one would not fear darkness. If not for this mirror, the Inverted World would not have collapsed to this extent.
Even with black smog constantly descending from the sky, The Church’s upper echelons could still argue theology, spouting various things, and nations could produce experts to enlighten the public on the importance of environmental protection.
But the mirror was so big, anyone with eyes couldn’t miss it.
This was no longer a matter of comparison; it was purely inciting hatred for the Outer World. Wayne didn’t understand, but he could somewhat comprehend Philomena’s hatred for him.
She bore tragedy, while he enjoyed happiness. Anyone would find it unbearable.
"Philomena, where is this place?"
"Paris."
At Wayne’s change of address, Philomena felt a sharp pain in her heart, intense jealousy making her wish she could replace her counterpart.
"Paris?"
Wayne gasped, thinking of the Headless Knight without head, horse, sword, or sense of self, and immediately shivered.
He should not have come here. The Headless Knight had warned him that if he appeared in Paris, the knight would come to seize Shadowmare.
Was the Headless Knight already on the way here?
Wait a minute, would the ’Wayne’ of this world also have trouble with the Headless Knight?
Wayne cocked his head, recalling Dreyne’s description of the Inverted World. She had said that there was no ’her’ in the Inverted World, no situation of fighting oneself.
It turns out the Moonlight Knight is simply too strong for her reflection to appear in the Inverted World’s mirror.
If Dreyne didn’t exist, then the even more powerful Headless Knight likely didn’t exist either...
New question, do the reincarnated deities of this world exist, and does the faith in gods pay attention to the Inverted World?
A bit chaotic, Wayne was severely lacking in intelligence. He only knew the Moonlight Knight Dreyne was on a mission in the Inverted World and hoped she hadn’t left yet so she could take him out.
"Philomena, take me to visit the Underground Great Tomb, a place of interest."
"No, it’s been occupied by the Moonlight Knight."
"Ah?!"
Wayne was startled at first, then overjoyed. He thought to himself how easy it was, mentioning Dreyne and there she appeared, her pace on par with a prime minister.
"Then we have even more reason to go."
"No, the Moonlight Knight is too powerful, he will kill us..."
"Wait, you said ’he’?"
Interrupting, Wayne asked doubtfully: "Is the Moonlight Knight a man?"
"Yes, he originally was a Great Sage of The Church, named Galver. After obtaining the White Night Purity Words, he slaughtered all the high-ranking members of The Church who refused to submit. Now he is the Moonlight Knight, as well as the Pope and a Great Sage."
Great Sages, like Great Prophets, serve the Subsidiary Gods in The Church’s echelon and, alongside the Holy Maiden and the Pope, hold unparalleled status. When discussing the upper ranks of The Church, these significant figures cannot be avoided.
In the Inverted World, there is no Dreyne; she was too strong, but there exists a mirror reflection of the Godchosen Artifact. At the moment of the world’s rebirth, the ownerless Divine Artifact found a new knight.
