Chapter 847: Chapter 322 Layers of Outsourcing, This Time It’s Secure_2
Herman furrowed his brow and focused on the empty space in front of him, asking the people around him, "Did any of you see someone, or sense something peculiar?"
The four members of the Knight Order shook their heads. They had seen nothing and advised their leader to relax a little. The church had been breached by a devil once before, but that didn’t mean they should be paranoid all the time.
"Maybe I’m just under too much pressure..."
Herman forced a smile and shook his head, ignoring Archibald as he passed by, and said helplessly, "Compared to the Queen, what is the weight on my shoulders?"
The four members of the Knight Order let their imaginations run wild, their thoughts becoming partly altered, leaving them somewhat dazed. They exchanged a knowing smirk.
As Archibald walked past Herman, he wiped the non-existent sweat from his forehead, "That was close. My current charm is too low. It’s sufficient to deal with a Golden Mage but still lacking when facing a Legendary Mage. He almost spotted me."
"I hope that the secret treasure here will elevate my strength to the next level..."
As he spoke, Archibald’s figure vanished without a trace.
"You bastards, what are you four signaling at each other for?"
Herman pointed at the four members of the Knight Order and cursed them out, reprimanding, "How many times have I said that we, the Holy Light Knights, are loyal only to the Queen? Keep your petty thoughts in check. If I catch any of you, you’re all going to peel potatoes in the kitchen."
"Commander, are you seeing things? We weren’t signaling at each other."
"Yes, Lord Herman, you must be too tired from all the stress."
"Perhaps..."
Herman sighed and turned to walk towards the break room, "You keep watch; I’m going to get some water."
Ignoring his four subordinates, who were ready to sneak a smoke, Herman’s steps toward the break room became faster and more hurried, almost running as he entered.
Herman was drenched in sweat, the tiredness long gone from his face, "Who is that person, and why can someone walk into the church’s forbidden area so plainly? The magical prohibitions didn’t react, and no one saw him?"
The Legendary Mage was cleverly deceptive. Herman, though a simple man, had his own impressive acting skills. Drawing on his prior experience of a devil’s infiltration, he analyzed that the mysterious person was likely a devil.
He didn’t cause a scene but pretended to be ignorant and managed to deceive the mysterious person before heading to the break room to activate a Magic Crystal and instantly contact the Magical Department Headquarters.
"There is a devil in St. George’s Church; please, Prince, dispatch troops immediately."
At that time, the Windsor Royal Family wasn’t particularly strong. Except for the Queen and the Princess, who were quite striking, others were hardly noteworthy.
Contrasting starkly with them were the robust and mighty Lando Family. Herman immediately thought of Prince and Assistant Minister Austin, hopeful to dispatch either of the knights "Darkness" or "Death" from among their ranks.
If possible, it would be best if both knights came together.
...
Magical Department Headquarters, Ministerial Office Building.
Inside the office, Austin busied himself with work. To his left were piles of completed documents, and to his right, a small mountain of yet-to-be processed files, demonstrating that being a King wasn’t anyone’s game.
On the other side was Queen Sophia, delicately savoring her tea, a slight smile playing on her lips as she watched the busy Austin.
"How does it feel to be the boss? It must be quite joyful!"
Tonight, Sophia was not at Buckingham Palace, fearing a run-in with the freeloading Wayne and Dreyne. Freeloaders were not to be feared, what was fearful was that satisfied people often pursue gluttonous desires, planning to take further advantage without offering anything in return.
That old saying, Queen + Widow + Defeated + Ex-girlfriend of her father are quite the combination, and since Wayne had a taste for something that took a bit of chewing, precautions were necessary.
Compared to that, Austin was practically a gentleman.
Sophia had tried several times, wearing almost nothing but a pair of white gloves, all of which Austin coldly ignored and rejected. Her hopes not yet dashed, she had specifically chosen a short skirt paired with stockings tonight, attempting to awaken Austin’s memory that had been dead for over twenty years.
It was a night of flashing lightning and roaring thunder, the raucous winds outside matched by the turmoil inside...
Bang!
The door was thrown open, disrupting Sophia’s reminiscence. She hastily smoothed her skirt and looked up.
The one who entered was Assistant Minister Ivette, returning to her appearance as a dignified, fifty-year-old woman, well-dressed with an air of authority.
"Ivette, what are you doing here?"
Sophia’s expression was awkward, reproaching Ivette for not knocking before entering. Though it was nothing, what if it had been something?
"Queen..."
Oh, hello, what now?
Ivette, embarrassed upon seeing Sophia’s attire, internally criticized her own inadequacy. If only she had completed her mission, the Queen wouldn’t have had to personally take such measures.
A ridiculous thought flashed through her mind, and Ivette hurriedly stated her purpose, "Herman urgently reports that a devil has broken into Windsor Castle’s St. George’s Church, and Deputy Minister Austin needs to send more troops."
"St. George’s Church?!"
Austin’s eyes flashed with surprise as he instinctively looked at Sophia. What would a devil want in St. George’s Church, if the container for The Seven Demon Kings had already been destroyed? What other secrets of the Royal Family were hidden there?
Having worked closely for many years, they understood each other with just a glance. Austin’s look conveyed his question clearly.
Sophia remained silent, glanced at her legs encased in black stockings. If the Royal Family had any other trump cards, would she really be wearing such immodest clothes?
They were indeed very pretty.
Austin got the message and refrained from asking further. He picked up the nearby phone and made a call.
Following Herman’s indication that the devil was strong and ordinary Legendary Mages couldn’t handle it, only the God-chosen Knight would be capable of managing the situation.
