Chapter 822: Chapter 316: Just Pamper Him

In the office, three women and a man, the sound of cards slapping echoed without cease.

Being God-chosen Knights, one could easily guess they were playing cards.

The disparity in status meant that the card companions of God-chosen Knights could only be other God-chosen Knights, or at the very least, a Holy Maiden of the Legendary Mage Realm.

Though Philomena’s status as Regional High Priest wasn’t enough, her realm as a Legendary Mage barely allowed her to reach the card table; it made perfect sense for her to play cards with the leadership.

The presence of Chris...

One could only say that Dreyne did it on purpose. She knew Philomena and Chris had a mentor-student relationship, knew that this pair had both offered their purity to The Church, and also knew that this mentor and student shared the same track, the same currency, unifying their measurements and standards.

None of these were key, the key was that the mentor and student themselves weren’t clear about it.

So, Dreyne forcefully assembled a card game, not with the intent of actually playing, but to watch Wayne being amused.

As a Knight, she was humble, honorable, just, compassionate, honest, and courageous, dedicating her life to maintaining world peace. Asking for a little fun at the expense of her successor, that couldn’t be too excessive, right?

Dreyne thought it wasn’t excessive!

However, after losing three games in a row, the nature of things changed.

Dreyne forgot about finding amusement from Wayne, only knowing that if she didn’t win the next game, she would be the laughingstock.

At this point, Dreyne had already lost nine rounds. Her strong competitive spirit made her inflate the terms from winning two out of three rounds to nineteen out of nineteen. She was back against the wall with no way out.

Her chips had run out by the fifth round; in the sixth and seventh, shamelessly, she lost using Philomena’s and Chris’s chips, and in the eighth round, she lost the White Night Purity Words.

Now it was the ninth round; if she lost this one, she would have to entertain Wayne for the whole night.

Dreyne held her cards with a serious expression, contemplating each choice deeply, as though she faced a life-and-death duel.

"Hey, have you decided yet? Are you going to follow or not? Everyone is waiting for you!"

Wayne’s voice, impatiently, came from behind the pile of chips, "If you’re a weak player, just practice more, don’t waste everyone else’s time here, dithering like a lady."

"Bastard, who are you calling a lady!"

Dreyne, upon hearing this, flew into a rage, tearing her cards into tiny pieces and, under the emotionless gaze of Philomena and Chris, let out a bang as she flipped the card table towards the ceiling.

It was Philomena’s excessively large office desk, about 1.5mx2m, the type that could lay down two people.

At this moment, it was firmly embedded in the ceiling, hanging quite peacefully.

Chips flew around, revealing Wayne’s face which seemed to say he had expected as much. He shrugged and looked at Philomena with a smirk that was not quite a smile.

Sorry, but he won the bet. If she didn’t mind, he would honor the bet tonight, going home to engage in some physical and mental health activities with his sister.

Philomena felt as uncomfortable as if she had swallowed a fly, turning her head away, not knowing what kind of strange bets Wayne was talking about.

Chris: (눈‸눈)

The dog-men and women content in this office seems a bit over the limit!

Damn, the High Priest preying on the young, the God-chosen Knight addicted to gambling, when did The Church become like this!

"You brat, just play the game. What’s with the personal attacks? Can’t you handle losing?"

Dreyne, thick-skinned, retorted without blushing or panting, "You know I’m straightforward. You did this deliberately, provoking me with your words, so that when I can’t stand it anymore and flip the table, I would stop winning, right?"

"Have you ever won?"

"I’m about to win right now!"

Dreyne’s face turned red with exasperation. Anything else could be discussed, but her card techniques could not be questioned.

The arguing went on about the mismatch between local cards and honest people, her card luck still suffering from jet lag, followed by Wayne cheating, Philomena letting her win, and Chris not knowing how to play, excuses Wayne sarcastically called posture-boosting, filling the office with a lively atmosphere.

Philomena and Chris couldn’t get in the mood for liveliness. The former was thinking of Wayne spinning yarns with his sister, while the latter was thinking of Wayne spinning yarns with her teacher. Their slender necks couldn’t support their heavy foreheads, and they fell into silence, heads down.

What else could they say?

On one hand, the neighboring Church winning every hand started to lose momentum; on the other, our Knight couldn’t handle a loss and table-flipping showed her true mettle?

It was too embarrassing!

Only Wayne dared stay in that lively atmosphere. Others didn’t dare, but he knew Dreyne’s character—unable to handle a loss, but would never go violent on card friends after a loss, nor cheat to win a game.

As long as one could accept the table-flipping arrangement, Dreyne still had some card ethics.

Wayne was right; Dreyne swept her arm, pulled down the office table from the ceiling, set it back in place, and sat down, returning to her icy beauty persona as if nothing had happened.

She didn’t fuss over Wayne throwing the card table into disarray with his tricks, hoping others would also stay calm and rational like her, and not fuss over it anymore.

Not daring to do so, not daring to do so. x2

Wayne wanted to say something else, but Dreyne beat him to it, "Wayne, why haven’t you summoned the White Night Purity Words these days? I’ve instructed you to practice diligently. Have you been slacking off?"

More than slacking off, Dreyne was more afraid of Mula and Leo, the sore losers who might clandestinely tempt her successor. Wayne hadn’t been using White Night Purity Words because he was too busy practicing the Elemental Mantra and Dawn Admonition.

Shadowmare:

"I tried to summon it a few days ago, but it didn’t work," said Wayne as he looked at Philomena and spoke to Chris, "I wanted to surprise you by transforming into the Moonlight Knight right in front of you. Who would’ve thought I just couldn’t get the Knight’s Divine Artifact to come out."

Then picking up the White Night Purity Words, he continued to Dreyne, "If I’m not mistaken, you must have loaned out the White Night Purity Words again."
