Chapter 793: Chapter 308 Death Knight: Let Me Speak a Few Words of Justice_4
"Makes sense!" Philomena nodded repeatedly.
These words were for the Tulip Family to savor carefully. They felt the pressure and nodded in agreement, reaffirming their loyalty, restating their position, and willing to charge at the forefront for the Queen.
For Austin and Hefei, the former panicked to no end, feeling a huge mess would erupt tonight, while the latter, oblivious to what was happening, found it all very amusing and never stopped smiling.
Impossible to suppress!
Philomena was near madness, detecting a warning, no, an overt threat in Douglas’s words. With a Death Knight ahead and the Holy Maiden of the Dark Church behind, not only she and Hefei, the two High Priests, but the whole Lando Family faced a life-and-death situation tonight.
Where the hell did you go, stand up already!
Philomena was frantic with worry, her voice urgent to Hefei over their internal communication. Hefei, still chuckling and stuttering, seemed clueless even as death loomed, making Philomena feel like she was dragging dead weight.
The question arose, how did such a mind give birth to Wayne.
Dumb for thirty years after giving birth?
Austin’s face displayed undisguised panic. The more agitated he became, the thicker Douglas’s smile grew.
His Highness the Prince confidently declared this was in the bag. After the Queen and the two important allies were seated, he stood as straight as a spear, smiling as he asked, "Austin Lando, all of the Tulip Family have expressed their loyalty to the Queen, only you remain unclear. Now, can the Lando Family still bear the honor of the Tulip Family, and do you still wish to be the Queen’s blade?"
"Your Highness, the Lando Family’s loyalty has always been unchanging, before we served the Queen, and we will continue to do so in the future," Austin hastily clarified his position, all the while sending urgent glances towards Queen Sophia.
Hurry up, nod your head, Queen!
Queen Sophia was puzzled. Tonight’s Austin seemed somewhat odd, which did not affect her continued trust in him. Regardless of their deep monarch-subject relationship, past affection, or the current comparison of power and influence, she was willing to trust Austin’s loyalty.
Queen Sophia glanced at her husband; with Austin having clarified his position, the banquet could officially begin.
All was under control. Next, the music played on, the dance continued.
Douglas took a forward position, deliberately ignoring his wife’s gaze. Without waiting for him to speak, two lords of the Tulip Family stood up.
Barney Boswell.
Rupert Wilson.
Both had a strained relationship with Austin, and under Douglas’s direction, they seized the task to press Austin.
First come, first served; they wouldn’t let Austin surrender so easily when other members of the Tulip Family had suffered.
You were so proud before, lad, why not continue with your arrogance!
"Austin, you said you wanted to serve the Queen; how do you intend to serve? Is it the same arrogance as before? If so, your loyalty doesn’t seem trustworthy!"
"Mr. Barney, Austin is a man of measure. I trust his character and credibility. Since he dares say it, he will surely do it," said Rupert.
"Rupert, Austin hasn’t said anything yet!"
"Is that so?"
Rupert, as if suddenly realizing something, mocked himself, pretending to consider the Lando Family’s interests: "Austin, how do you plan to serve? How much power will you return to the Royal Family? It’s best you make it clear while everyone is here."
"Makes sense!" Philomena nodded repeatedly.
Austin’s brow furrowed slightly, and after a brief period of thought, he spoke resolutely, "The Lando Family’s interests can be taken back by the Queen at her discretion. As for how they’re distributed, I have no objections. My loyalty is absolute!"
With one sentence, he sold out his entire family’s interests, catching Rupert and Barney off guard. Disdainful of Austin’s cowardice and meekness, they had been mistaken in seeing him as a significant figure.
What a level of class, sharing the title of head of a family within the Tulip Family.
"What about the position at the top of the Magic Department?" Douglas asked further.
"At the Queen’s disposal!"
"..."
Douglas was momentarily at a loss for words. This was not the outcome he wanted, ignoring the increasingly cold expression on Queen Sophia’s face, he pressed in a low voice, "And what about the property managed by the Magic Department for the Lando Family?"
"All can be included," Austin Lando bowed and said.
"Including your butler?"
"..."
Austin’s expression subtly changed as he slowly straightened his back to look at Douglas, "Prince, the butler of the Lando Family belongs only to the Lando Family, not a possession of the Magic Department."
"Austin, is this how you express your loyalty?"
Douglas smiled faintly, this was the pace he was looking for and finally, he had caught a handle.
"The loyalty of the Lando Family is only to the Queen, and in my list of loyalty, there is only the Queen. Prince, you are not on that list," Austin said, devoid of emotion as he toyed with the Ancient Silver Coin.
"You’re right, the Tulip Family should only be loyal to the Queen."
Seeing an opportunity, Douglas pressed on, "Since you’re willing to give up your position amongst the Magic Department higher-ups, you should also hand over that Ancient Silver Coin which symbolizes your identity."
"Makes sense!" Philomena nodded repeatedly in agreement.
"Prince, I could hand it over, but can you catch it?"
"Austin, you’ve got quite the nerve!"
The atmosphere charged with tension reached its peak in an instant, members of the Tulip Family collectively stepped back, not wanting to get involved in the dispute, drinking from their cups to quench their parched throats and calm their nerves as the intense drama unfolded.
Hefei frowned at Prince Douglas, who was filled with malice—seemingly fearless.
Was this truly prudent? If the men of her household were unwilling to continue, it might be difficult to bring the situation to a close.
Philomena stood silently beside Hefei, as the Royal Family’s oppression of the Lando Family was unmistakably also an attitude towards the Life Alliance and the Moonlight Church.
During the honeymoon phase, they sweetly called it a small sweet treat, but after finding the Death and Dark Church and forming the Dark Death Alliance, they immediately turned their backs and became shrewish.
This damned politics.
"Enough, let us stop here for today," the Queen’s voice sounded at a crucial moment. Queen Sophia could no longer tolerate it and spoke out herself. She didn’t want to take away the power from Douglas’s hands; her husband had worked hard for the Royal Family, and even if there were no merits, there were still efforts; he deserved at least some face.
But Douglas was too biased against Austin, and his words were filled with personal grievances. As a politician, he was undoubtedly too naïve.
Queen Sophia looked at Austin and slowly said, "I trust the loyalty of the Lando Family, and I recognize your dedication to your family. However, your words were a bit excessive. The Prince will govern Windsor with me in the future, and he deserves a place on your list of loyalty."
Both sides were given an equal scolding and also drawn a grand vision, fair and balanced.
Austin’s expression softened slightly as he bowed to Queen Sophia and graciously accepted this lifeline.
Douglas, on the other hand, remained gloomy, his face alternating between shades of green and white as he faintly heard the mocking laughter of the Tulip Family members.
"The Queen still chose Austin at the last moment..."
"The Prince is just a placeholder; in political marriages, there are no real feelings, Austin is the Queen’s true love!"
"The so-called Prince is simply a subject with a special status; the Queen is the Queen, and subjects are subjects, he seems to be a bit confused about that..."
"After tonight, will we have to start calling Austin ’Prince’?"
"Hasn’t it always been the case?"
"If you say it out loud, you might all notice, I’ve always thought that the Prince and Princess bear a certain resemblance to Austin in their features."
"Hahaha———"
A string of whispers turned Douglas’s face even paler, just as he was about to burst, the Death Knight suddenly slammed the table, startling everyone with a loud bang.
"As an ally of the Queen, I do not normally have the right to speak, but rather than continue this quarrel, we might as well..."
"Let me say a few words of justice!"
