Chapter 728: Chapter 291: The Essence of Life, Pale Knight

It’s gotten dark!

Darkness enveloped the campsite from above, merging with the three-colored aurora, casting infinite black light, temporarily slowing the trend of spatial fusion.

The fusion of space was unstoppable. By then, whether it was Torgoguryr’s severed body or the continuous Black Mountain Range, both would tumble from the sky, reducing the entire campsite to ruins.

Little Fairies screamed and fled outward, darting through the Magic Gate. Blown by the cold wind, they screamed again and ran back.

Not very smart, it seemed.

On the outskirts of the campsite, the Dark Elves retreated in an orderly fashion, passing by the bewildered Little Fairies, and casually pocketing them.

"Sese, come home with me!"

Saina stared at the expressionless Hefei and Veronica, sneering, "I know what you’re trying to do. Wise up—going there will only hold us back. Join these Dark Elves and leave so I can free my hands to go help."

As she spoke, she mercilessly rejected a Little Fairy that had approached her, flicking it away with her finger, hitting a Dark Elf in the chest.

The Little Fairy crashed into a trampoline and after a couple of bounces, conveniently crawled inside.

"Not Sese!"

Hefei looked up at the sky and insisted, "The Dark Knight draws strength from pain; taking on so much pain all at once, he’ll likely struggle to sustain his thoughts and body. I must go there. Only with me present will he have a reason to persevere."

"How old are you, to still naively believe in love?"

Saina scoffed and then turned to Veronica, "What about you, do you think the same?"

While speaking, a thick Death Essence rose to the sky, its tendrils flailing chaotically, entwining with the four-colored aurora, merging with each other.

Veronica’s eyes lit up, and she nodded, "The Death Knight’s power comes from pain, taking on..."

Thud!

Saina karate-chopped Veronica on the head, rolling her eyes in annoyance – she didn’t want to hear it a second time; it was too many words.

Putting her hand on Veronica, Saina raised an eyebrow and said, "Wayne ordered me to protect you both, he is my Knight, and I must do whatever he wants, unquestioningly... anything."

The provocation was clear in her voice, irking Veronica, who though it wasn’t the right moment to lash out, just huffed and pretended not to hear.

"If you run there now, I will die in an ugly way, so, either leave with some dignity or I’ll make you leave with some dignity."

"I’m a Golden Mage. I can refuse unnecessary knowledge, and others will protect me. No need for you to meddle."

Hefei transformed into her half-dragon form and, becoming a blur, dashed straight for the Dark Sealing Land.

"There goes my reward..."

Saina muttered under her breath as she pushed Veronica through the teleportation gate, "You’re too weak, you can’t handle it. Here’s some advice: if you don’t want to drift further from him, start getting stronger."

Facing the insurmountable strength disparity, Veronica had no way to counter Saina and could only watch helplessly as Saina closed the Magic Gate.

The light of the Magic Gate dimmed, Saina’s figure gradually faded away, leaving behind a voice, "We seek different things; don’t always be hostile towards me. Learn to share, understand?"

"Oh, by the way, I’ve tried him. Your fiancé is really awesome!"

...

"The, the Death Knight?!"

Gazing at Wayne holding Shadowmare and undergoing his transformation, Anastasia instinctively took a step back.

"Why are you the Death Knight? You were recognized by the three Goddesses..."

Anastasia, quick-witted, did not suspect Wayne of having ulterior motives or infiltrating The Sealed Land to cause destruction. She simply couldn’t understand why, having already abandoned The Sealed Land, the Goddess of Death had thrown her own Knight back in.

Furthermore, if he was the Knight of Death, what did the Divine Decree’s choice of the three Knights mean?

It certainly couldn’t be a coincidence. Anastasia considered the information she had and immediately realized the key point. The three Goddesses saw the Death Knight as cannon fodder, bestowing Divine Power to let the Death Knight shield them, to replace their own Knights and die on the Icebound Continent.

It was logical and well-founded; Anastasia got the gist of it immediately.

Wayne, raising his Shadowmare high, unleashed the surging Death Essence, blending it into the four-colored aurora. The powers of five God-chosen Knights converged, jointly holding the line and resisting the terrifying pressure of spatial convergence.

If luck held, they might even stop the spatial convergence and send back the parts of Torgoguryr that had been scattered.

You wouldn’t have guessed, Torgoguryr, on the surface it was four Knights, but actually, all five had arrived!

Whether Torgoguryr expected it or not was unclear, but Anastasia was caught completely off guard and remained astonished, "Death Knight Lord, why have you left the Underground Great Tomb? Was it the Divine Decree of the Goddess of Death?"

"Having accepted the powers of the three Goddesses, do you truly wish to die on the Icebound Continent?"

"Why not reveal your identity to the three Knight Lords? You must know that if you had disclosed who you are, there might have been more options; the three Knight Lords wouldn’t have risked executing a decapitation strike."

"Enough, don’t say anymore. Why waste such a good imagination?"

Wayne interjected, "Your Holiness, I am not the true Death Knight; it’s all just a twist of fate. Just call me Wayne."

"Lord Wayne."

"..."

Wayne shrugged, full of mischief, "Your Holiness, there’s no need to be so wary. I am not just the inheritor of the Death Knight, but also of the Dark Knight. We’re all friends here."

The choice of the five Gods!

Reason told Anastasia that Wayne was talking nonsense, but circumstances left her no choice but to believe that there truly was a choice by five Gods.
