Chapter 696: Chapter 282: Your Fiancé is Awesome
"Diviner, Lady, what should I do?" Hefei sat in front of the Crystal Ball.
"Nothing needs to be done, for fate has already determined everything,"
the Dark-Skinned Diviner slowly spoke, her stiff face unmoving, voice emanating from her chest.
As the word ’fate’ fell, the Crystal Ball began to change, the peaceful white mist inside suddenly roiling, reflecting Hefei’s visage.
"Follow the tracks of fate, you will die by the sword of the Death Knight and become a skeleton under his command," said the Diviner, gazing into the rolling white mist.
"???"x4
Four people simultaneously had a string of question marks float over their foreheads, with Veronica turning her head directly toward Wayne.
"Why are you looking at me? I’m not the Death Knight."
Wayne held Veronica’s head, turning it forward, and then said, "Lady Diviner, is your prediction reliable, or are you just saying anything because it’s free and you’re not planning on being responsible?"
"Although fate is predetermined, there are some great beings who have the power to defy fate. They can not only control their own destiny but also manipulate others’, veering the original trajectory of fate around themselves."
"So, the predetermined fate will venture onto the next predetermined destiny, and my divination is not absolutely accurate."
"It has been two years since the last predetermined destiny," the Diviner continued, "and a lot can change in two years. If you have doubts about my divination, you can come for another session after the next fate adjustment."
"When will the next fate adjustment happen?" asked Hefei.
"Unclear."
The Dark-Skinned Diviner’s voice was soft and gentle, but her mechanical, uninspired tone made Wayne wonder if she was an artificial intelligence from the Magic Realm.
Request the source of the voice package.
Hefei stood up, puzzled, and came over to Wayne, saying, "Tell me, how did you strike that sword?"
Veronica eagerly sat down, waiting for fate’s judgment.
"You’re already dead."
"Ah?!"
Veronica’s mouth hung open. What did it mean she was already dead, literally?
If she was already dead, then who was she now?
"You’re lucky to have met someone who changed the fate of your life," the Diviner said unhurriedly.
"Since that one’s inaccurate, can I have another divination?" Veronica cleverly asked.
The Diviner did not reply immediately and went silent for more than ten seconds before answering, "You may, but your future has already changed, and the divination is bound to fail."
"No worries, I don’t plan on divining fate."
Veronica blinked, thinking of her mother still behind her, and dryly said, "I have a friend who has a boyfriend, and that man is quite popular, Lady Diviner, do you think my friend’s love life will be happy?"
As the words ended, Hefei secretly regretted not asking about that herself. If she had known, she would have inquired earlier.
She, too, had a friend.
Saina was quite moved, waiting for the Diviner’s response. Coincidentally, she also had a friend.
"In your original destiny, you had no boyfriend; I cannot answer that question."
"My friend!"
Veronica argued vehemently, albeit ineffectively, as the Dark-Skinned Diviner mechanically dismissed her, asking Veronica to leave promptly and not to impede other people’s divinations.
Next was Wayne, who sat with an expectant look, waiting for the Crystal Ball to divine his future.
If the prediction was correct, he was the one who altered Veronica’s fate. But could the Diviner see his destiny?
If it was the fate from two years ago, ’his’ destiny should be that of the original Wayne...
Wait, the original Wayne used Shadowmare to kill Hefei!
What sort of development was this?
Also, originally, Veronica was supposed to die in Caforno Town. Had Wayne gone with the trio to Caforno Town at that time and if so, was he already the Death Knight then?
Before the Diviner could speak, Wayne was already contemplating the fickleness of fate, where simply choosing a moment in time could unravel numerous threads of destiny.
"You are in pain, confused, with death being your only future," the Diviner said, looking into the fog.
Wayne nodded, that was right, that’s how the Wayne from the Inverted World saw it.
Then, Saina sat down and said to the Diviner, "I once divined my own fate, and you said my future was bright. That was two years ago, now that destiny has been adjusted, I want to see my new future."
Saina’s mood was subdued; it was evident that, like Veronica and Hefei, her fate had taken a new course. Two years ago, she hadn’t met Wayne, and her future looked bright.
What about now? Was it pitch black?
Wayne watched, dumbstruck, as Saina sat in his lap. Despite it all, she really smelled good and was soft.
Without a soft seat becoming a hard one, with Veronica watching, Wayne dared not make a move. It was explainable now, he could just blame it on Saina chasing him, but if things got hard, he’d have no excuses to offer.
Pah, shameless, she wanted to sit, and you let her?
Veronica’s eyes reddened in an instant, and she yanked Hefei’s sleeve hard. Look at what your teacher is allowing, do something about her!
Hefei was utterly frustrated. What was she supposed to do? Was she qualified to intervene? She was helpless too, alright!
"Your future is bright."
"..."
Still bright?
The Diviner’s words reminded Saina that her destiny had indeed changed because of Wayne, but the precise moment fate had shifted was when she met Wayne, and moreover...
