Chapter 694: Chapter 281: Icebound Continent, The Dark Marketplace_2
"Master, would you be so kind as to let me go?"
"Hmm."
"Am I not beautiful?"
"Uh, it’s not a matter of being beautiful or not, the biggest problem is that you’re having such thoughts."
Wayne complained bitterly, patiently saying, "Hold on a bit longer, stay rational, and once we’re back in Lundan, and my research has made a significant breakthrough, I’ll give you your freedom at the first opportunity."
Saina was deeply moved, but with the excitement came a profound sense of loss.
She couldn’t understand, with all her qualifications, where did she fall short compared to Veronica, Chris, and Vili, those three green girls?
Was it just because they were in greater numbers?
These thoughts were fully exposed in front of Wayne, who found it all bemusing. It wasn’t so long ago, still at the Naturalism Church Headquarters, that Saina was resisting and struggling in every possible way.
Now, given the chance of freedom, she was actually reluctant to take it.
Evolution is terrifying, indeed!
Wayne made a great effort to persuade, explaining he admired strong women, which finally lifted Saina’s spirits and she sought to regain her former self.
"Master, my student Hefei matches your preferences well, shall I take the opportunity to get rid of Austin?"
"..."
Wayne rolled his eyes and added another layer of restraint to Saina, forbidding her from having such wild thoughts and corrected her way of addressing his beliefs, henceforth she was not to refer to faith as ’master’.
The four of them moved through the cold wind, unaffected by the harsh polar climate.
Soon, Saina located the nearest Teleportation Array.
The Magic Array was situated beneath the ice, firmly sealed by solid and immovable frost. Saina spread her five fingers, with a fierce cold wind converging from all directions at her fingertips, forming a white, thin line.
As Saina touched the ground with a finger, the cold wind sliced through the ice with ease, a hint of green spreading; vigorous green vines broke through the ice, opening a passage near the Teleportation Array.
Truly, the astute Dragon Blood made it look easy with a wave of her hand.
Wayne looked at Veronica beside him and, removing doubt, knew his dear one would punch first thing.
Although the result would be the same, breaking through the passage, it certainly wouldn’t be with the elegance and composure of Saina.
Saina leapt gracefully into a ten-meter-deep ice cave; ahead, the glacial passages spread out, forming a not insignificant underground network.
Hefei followed closely, eyeing the luminous Magic Stones frozen in the ice, crushing the hard frost with a claw-like grip and pulling out a stone to examine.
"It seems to be the handiwork of the Sun Church, with sunlight sealed inside the Magic Stone, likely crafted by a Golden Mage..."
"It was the Dark Church’s Golden Mage, though the Sun Church does fancy the midnight sun, they failed in their struggle for the poles and were driven out of the northern and southern realms by the Dark Church."
Saina shared the secrets known only to high-ranking members of The Church: "The Life Alliance’s three faiths oppose the dark and Death, and while it seems like three against two, it’s actually one-on-one and two-on-one..."
"Our Naturalism Church is opposed to the Death Church, and the Sun and Moonlight Churches are opposed to the Dark Church, as the faiths they represent: nature and death cannot coexist, light and darkness are in opposition."
"Saina, old teacher, may I interject?"
Wayne raised his hand, "According to the intelligence I’ve gathered recently, there is a cooperative relationship between the Dark Church and the Sun Church, how do you explain that?"
The five God-chosen Knights were stationed in the Icebound Continent, with the Headless Knight offline for the time being.
Speaking of the sealed Ancient God’s Kin Torgoguryr located at the head of the Black Mountain Range, first there was the Dark Church’s Holy Maiden’s failed reinforcement of the seal, followed by Vili’s parents forming a team for the task, whose arrivals were so well-timed, clearly indicating an ongoing connection.
"Call me Saina."
"Alright, old teacher Saina."
"Suit yourself. If you like calling me teacher, I can accept that."
"I understand, Saina."
"... "... x2
The back-and-forth between the two made Hefei’s gums ache, while Veronica had a heavy head; it was evident that her son/fiancé was the one being pursued.
What an absurd turn of events!
"The Dark Church rarely operates on the God-chosen Continent; setting aside the issues of faith, they are actually quite orderly. The Death Church is different, having gone through one high-level change, they have gradually become more active in every corner of the continent, with Death Disciples’ presence almost everywhere..."
Saina stepped in front of the Teleportation Array and extracted six Teleportation Stones from the void, corresponding to the Hexagram on the Magic Array: "I’m not sure about the cooperation between the Dark Church and the Sun Church, but I can affirm that dark, sun, and moonlight do not mix."
The Teleportation Stones, traded from the Dark Church, proved the Legendary Mage of Dragon Blood was extremely strong yet excessively cautious.
Wayne: "Then how do you explain the Perfect Elf? The formula is still your own work."
Saina: "It’s exactly as it seems, the underlying reasons are probably only clear to the gods."
The Teleportation Array activated and Saina was the first to step in; Wayne and the others quickly followed suit. The path still lay through the underground ice-bound channels, and after advancing for several dozen steps, a second Teleportation Array appeared.
Just as Saina had said, once the first Teleportation Array was found, the rest was easy, and they traveled at an astonishingly fast pace.
After five teleportations, the most recently revealed Teleportation Array was embedded with a Teleportation Stone, indicating the nearby presence of Dark Church personnel. Three more teleportations later, the four arrived deep within the Icebound Continent, with signs of the Dark Church also appearing in their vicinity.
Veronica saw a signpost inscribed in the official languages of Windsor, Frank, Iberia, and the Ross Federation.
The Mages of the Dark Church warned newcomers that the Teleportation Array could be used but not damaged; violations of this rule would be pursued by the Dark Church to the fullest extent.
