Chapter 690: Chapter 280: It’s Really Good to Blame Others!
Study.
"That’s the situation, we split up in the Balearic Islands of Iberia, Megan and I took off first, and I’ve arranged a stand-in. Just say we’re going on vacation to the Balearic Islands," Austin said as he toyed with an ancient silver coin, his expression somewhat helpless.
As a member of the Tulip Family and the head of the Lando Family, Austin’s brain couldn’t always speak for himself. More often than not, his behind decided whether to go left or right.
The Icebound Continent needed a Dark Knight; first came the summoning from the Dark Goddess’s Envoy, then an invitation from the Naturalist Knight. Austin had no choice but to go.
His brain decided to go, but his behind was in a tough spot. So, Austin came up with the excuse of a family vacation to buy a month’s time from the Queen.
The Queen was currently besieged by trouble, with the Vice Minister Alan missing, the fog unguarded, followed by Princess Knight Juno and Princess Teacher Celeste mysteriously leaving and only sending a letter back to confirm their safety, suspected of murder and on the run.
Just as Austin’s headache had started, he was about to take his family and flee.
Things were unstable within Iberia, wars were ongoing. Why choose to vacation in a warzone? Speak, do you have some kind of scheme?
Only Austin, with the bonus of being a first love boyfriend, could have managed this. Any other member of the Tulip Family would not only be prevented from going on vacation but even from going abroad for medical treatment.
He would have to die in Lundan!
One lie needed a hundred others for cover. Austin, concealing his identity as a Dark Knight, had to weave more lies to fill in the gaps. His brain made a decision against his behind, and now he too was headaching.
And at this time, he felt that the Queen was beginning to suspect that Alan’s death and the Princess’s disappearance were related to him.
What if something was discovered?
One couldn’t just keep setting the warehouse on fire to cover it up, could they?
"Who made you the head of a family, who made you respect the Queen so much, who made you unwilling to shoulder the responsibility of a first love?"
Seeing Austin’s worrisome look, Wayne joined in with mockery and promptly offered his advice, "If you ask me, you might as well be straightforward about it. After all, her husband has been dead for many years, she’s lonely and empty. Whether she sleeps alone or with someone, she’s sleeping anyway, so why don’t you fill the void and take her deceased husband’s place?"

"You put in some effort, and when the Queen recalls the wonderful times of her first love, even if she suspects there’s something wrong, she will turn a blind eye," continued Wayne.
The more he talked, the more reasonable it seemed. By the time Austin’s position was secure, the Lando Family would not fear being raided; Hefei and Veronica could continue to live without worries, and he, Wayne, could simply wait to take over the wealth, all of them looking forward to a bright future.
In public, Austin, in his role as a subject, was plugging gaps for the Queen, a sign of loyalty;
In private, Austin, for the sake of his wife and children, was working overtime to please the leader, a matter of responsibility.
"This isn’t an affair. Go ahead with courage. Trust me, the teacher will forgive you for bearing the burden of servitude to the Queen for the sake of this family!" Wayne spoke with conviction, his manner suggesting he guarded righteousness.
What reassurance could Austin rely on? He knew perfectly well, so clear that it might as well hit him in the face. He inquired about Princess Elizabeth’s situation and when she could be returned.
"It’s not possible, not right now. My conscience won’t allow me to do that," said Wayne, shaking his head. If he took action now, changing Juno into Saina, he’d become a villain who repaid kindness with ingratitude.
"Heh, you actually have a conscience..."
Austin said with a mocking tone. He admitted that the little trash can had a conscience and was willing to see it cling onto what little conscience it had left, but he could wait, Princess could wait, but the Queen and the Holy See couldn’t.
Such a significant Princess, vanishing without a trace for a month, and possibly continuing to be absent for another month, what would the Queen think, what would the Holy See think?
Princess Elizabeth was not just a marriageable vase; her existence had to do with the faith of the Heavenly Father’s Court. To put it grandly, her presence was pivotal to the Holy See’s stance towards Windsor, with significant political implications.
She couldn’t just vanish without cause; it would breed suspicion on both sides.
"The Holy See is simple; I’ll have Mona notify St. Paul Cathedral to say that the Princess is learning Holy Light Magic with me. As long as the Holy See knows the whereabouts of the Princess, they won’t do anything to Windsor,"
"Then what? For the sake of hiding your identity, the Holy See will choose not to tell the Queen the truth. From the Queen’s perspective, the disappearance of the Princess would be related to the Holy See, and the situation would only worsen," Austin shook his head.
"What to do then?"
Wayne spread his hands, damned politics, everyone’s minds filled with paranoid delusions; why can’t they learn to be as optimistic? The Princess’s disappearance did not involve political factors – a typical beautiful woman missing. The kidnappers hadn’t made a ransom call, simply because they weren’t done playing.
Look, this is the logical reasoning of a normal person, far from dark.
"Change the Princess into one of your own and send her back as soon as possible."
"I really can’t; it’s a matter of principle," Wayne shook his head in refusal, his expression grave as he stated, "The Princess is a Golden Mage, an excellent specimen. The teacher and Veronica’s future will depend on the Princess providing theoretical and practical evidence, so even for their sake, I can’t harm the Princess right now."
These words convinced Austin.
Wayne couldn’t stay serious for three seconds and continued, "Besides, the Lando Family is utterly loyal to the Royal Family; you don’t want the future Queen to be obedient to me. The Windsor Kingdom has a Pope on top of it, right?"
Austin’s face darkened, "You’re right. If you were in control of Windsor, this country would be finished."
"If I were bold enough, this country would have been finished a long time ago."
